Haunted Painting

Hello everybody, I'm a new member and would like to share this story with you. I'm an artist. One of my first works was a large surreal scene in oils on hardboard in the pointillist technique. It was a desert scene with an ascending line of crumbling colums across the picture; a road wound around the pillars from the horizon into the foreground, small body parts, genitalia and face forms were incorporated into parts of the columns, and floating in space on one side was an outstretched hand - palm up - supporting a bare tree, the roots wound around the fingers. I used my own hand as the model and incorporated long fingernails. I wanted to represent the ghost of a truck behind one of the pillars on the winding road; ideally, it was to have been the main subject of the picture but i was dissatisfied with the result and couldn't seem to get it just right, so finally I gave up and painted it out.

The picture was taken to the office where I worked (a transport company) and hung there for a few months, until a client saw it and took it to a gallery owner she knew; it sat in the back of the gallery for a while but was never exhibited; the owner didn't like it. In time I retrieved it and took it home.

While it was in the gallery, my mother got cancer and died; the transport company suddenly went into liquidation after three years of successful operation and one of the owners fell ill and died. A friend wanted a picture for his office wall, so I lent it to him and within three months he was abusing alcohol and his business folded. I then lent it to other friends to put in their home and within a few weeks, their stable and happy marriage of fourteen years began to disintegrate; while the woman left her three children to go out with another man, the husband spent many hours with us trying to make sense of things. After that, my mother-in-law had the painting for a while, and went through a rapid succession of stressful jobs; at that time her home was broken into and she was robbed of a possession of great sentimental value.

My husband felt the painting wanted to be 'at home' so we kept it with us until we moved to Canada in 1980 and brought it with us. Within four years, I gave birth to a son. Two weeks after his birth, I woke in a panic one night, as I had a vision of his body wrapped from head to toe in bandages floating in blackness above the end of my bed; I swung my legs onto the floor to go and save my baby, but there were evil spirits under the bed which grabbed my ankles and held them so I couldn't move. A week later he died of SIDS. Within 10 months, my husband 44 years old was taken by a massive heart attack. After his death, I took an axe to my painting and destroyed it. I do not have a photograph of it. I have not painted anything in the surreal style since then.

Grandma Says Goodbye

My Grandmother and Grandfather had built a new house on their farm land. In the meantime CaneGrandma (I called her this) passed away. Grandad then put their marriage bed and all their love notes and pictures in a downstairs bedroom. Grandad later then, decided to put the house and farm up for sale and move in to a retirement home. At this time I was about 16, I am now 35. (shhhhhh) While going through all their personal stuff, as Grandad had said "I am taking what I need to the R. Home, go through what you want then put the rest up for auction".

In the room where all the stuff was that they had put, everyone (the family) said that they were "feeling weird". I felt what seemed to me, gentle carresses, almost like a light breeze. At the end of the day, my mother told me to go down stairs for one last time to shut all the lights off, and make sure things like the fridge and everything was off and unplugged. I did so, and I walked past "the bedroom" and then had this feeling that I had to go into the bedroom, I turned and started walking. As I got to the door the light turned itself off, and the door shut by itself. Everyone told me that it was the wind that shut the door, but I know that it was not, as the door had warped from humidity and was hard to open and shut. I feel that what happend was my CaneGrandma's way of saying good-bye, as a final closure.

Ghost Does Laundry

[Lacombe, Alberta]

My fiance and I had just moved into a old trailer in Lacombe that his sister and her family previously owned. When we moved in she had said, "watch out for the ghost". Of course we didn't take her serious.

Only a few days of being in the home I was standing at the sink in the kitchen (facing north) and my fiance was at the south end of the trailer in the bedroom. I heard a whistle directly behind me and no one was there. Then less than a month later we bought a puppy (3mos old). There's a basement only below the addition that seems very old, like an old cellar. Our dog won't even go near the door, even if we go down. She also barks at an unknown presence as she stares down the hallway or basement door or kitchen.

Now this is the one that really makes me want to move out. One night in the summer I was having trouble sleeping and my fiance woke up around 4 am to go to the washroom. As he was coming back towards the living room he was really scared and telling me that he had just seen a ghost! I didn't believe him at first, then I realized how scared he seemed.

He said that while he was washing his hands he saw something by the laundry basket in the hallway out of the corner of his eye. So, he looked over and had to do a double take. There was an older woman in what I call prairie-style clothing, she was bent over our laundry basket as though she was about to fold clothes. He told me that as soon as he realized what he was seeing and became scared, she
disappeared.

One night we were lying in bed and both of us felt tugging at the end of our blanket. I had to move out to the living room that night.

Also, one night we were sleeping in the addition when we awoke to our dog barking and as we awoke we realized we could hear foot steps in the kitchen (connected to the addition).

We're due with a new arrival in May and I don't know if I'd like to stay here, although whoever it is seems friendly, it still scares me.

"Footsteps On The Stairs"

[Medicine Hat, Alberta]

We moved when I was 10, but before that, we lived in a very old house. My grandparents and great grandparents lived in this house after they immigrated from Ireland. As a small child, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the people who came and looked at me in the middle of the night. I did however feel scared when I heard squeaking noises going up the corridor and footsteps on the stairs. It may sound like nothing but since I've discovered that I possess the gift and many more things like this have happened to me even as an adult.

Sometimes it still scares me, but I've learned to treat it as a gift and not a curse.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Invocation

[Toronto, Ontario]

This scary occurrence I am about to tell did not happen to me, but to a close co-worker of mine. It took me a long time to get him to tell me, but here goes...

I have always been interested in the paranormal, but when I heard about this incident I was set back. I will call him Randy for privacy reasons. Randy was 16 at the time (he is now 22). He was a skeptic until this happened.

It was late into the night, Randy was sleeping peacefully until he awoke for no apparent reason. He then opened his eyes because he realized he was chanting words, and his arm was held up mid-air, under no control of his. The words coming from his mouth were "I invoke thee..." over and over. He was struggling inside to get control.

He looked around his room and saw a white mist speeding around and around the perimeters of his room. With his arm still 'being' held up and these words coming from his mouth he was starting to freak out.

Finally as quickly as it all happened to him, it stopped. As he lay in bed, his heart pumping and forehead sweating he tried to make some sense over what just happened. He told me that he ended up staying awake all night in fears that if he closed his eyes it would all happen again. This was his first and so far last experience like this. As he ended his story (when telling me) he said one last thing "ever since that night I have had nothing but bad luck".

I have never heard something like this before. He claims to have been fully awake, and I have no reasons for not believing that. Pretty interesting huh? Thanks for listening.

"Haunted Stereo"

[Manitoba]

The first house I ever lived in, is the one I know of as home. I remember a few things that happened to us (my sister, brother and his wife) when I lived there. The stereo and tv would go on by themselves. The stereo didn't have a timer, it was an old record player. My parents still have the tv to this day and it no longer flicks on by itself.

I remember waking up numerous times a night and hearing the sound of a train running through my house. And once awoke to an eyeball in my kool-aid.

These occurences are nothing to what I am about to share with you... After my parents and I moved out of town, my brother, his wife and his daughter lived in the house. My brother is a truck driver and was not home at the time. My sister-in-law was sleeping when she heard the stereo system go on. She got up thinking her husband was home, only to find that no one was there. She turned off the stereo and crawled back into bed, confused. Not even ten minutes later, the stereo again went on. Getting a little nervous, she grabbed a glass, threw it down the stairs, and it shattered against the wall. The music stopped. She went into her daughters room, barracaded the door, opened the window and screamed for help. The cops were called by the neighbours and found no trace of a break in, and no one present. Though I would love to do an investigation, the house has been sold for years now and I do not know if the new family has experienced anything. But I would love to go home. Believe it or not, but this really happened.

Spirit Soothes Dental Patient

[London, Ontario]

I don't know if this story qualifies but here it is. I had a dentist's appointment in January of 2003, and had to get a tooth pulled. It was not a fun experience, for it was a little painful and afterwards at home {a few hours later} I was rinsing my mouth out with saltwater {sorry about details} in my tiny kitchen and I could feel someone beside me place their hand on my left shoulder.

Although there was no one there, I knew it was one of my spirits that visit me on regular basis. I turned and kinda looked in the area where one would be and said "I'm ok just rinsing my mouth out and hurting a little bit". Who ever it was stayed for a few hours just to make sure I was all right. I thank them for looking in on me in a time of hurting. I find if you acknowledge the friendly ones they will be there for you in times of need.

Haunted Garbage Can

Hi I would like to tell you a true story that happened in my home when I was 10 I think....I wasn't the only one that witnessed it.

When I was just a small child I decided to lay down and watch a movie on tv. So as I was going to lay my blanket down I noticed something in the corner of my eye. I looked over and the most wacked thing happened. My garbage can had slowly laid itself down and than lifted itself up again.

I was pretty amazed so I had to investigate to see what caused it. At first I thought maybe it was a mouse or rat, so silly me was looking for a mouse or rat lol. Well When I couldn't find a good reason for that to happen I ran down the hall screaming "we have a ghost DAD!!!!" ...and I jumped into my parents bed and they just laughed at me. They somehow talked me out of believing that it was a ghost, so I went on to watch my movie.

A few days later my dad was sitting in the rocking chair watching tv and he witnessed the same thing more than once so he went to see a expert of some sort and he told him maybe someone who had died is trying to contact us. So we came home. Sure enough we got a phone call saying my cousin Jimmy was walking in a river, and the current had taken him under and that they can't find him.

I guess this had happened the night the garbage can did that the first time. We looked above the can and there was his picture. To this day they still haven't found his body. I miss him a lot; he was a great friend and a great cousin. Well I don't know what you can make of this, but I thought I should post it anyway.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

He Walked Through The Wall

[Toronto, Ontario]

Most of the "ghostly" activity that I've witnessed occurred during the years in my mother's former home; a split-level on a ravine in Toronto's west end. I'd like to post today about the first time anything happened. It would have been about 1974 or ‘75.

We moved there in my teens, and at first there was nothing unusual about the house. One night, however, I woke to find someone sitting on the side of my bed watching me sleep. Assuming that this young man had broken in, and was a threat, I was horrified and tried to pretend to be sleeping until I could calm down.

He was wearing a simple button up shirt, I think white, and pants, completely normal. He noticed me waking, then carefully stood and turned to face the dresser on the sidewall.

To my complete shock he walked right through the dresser and wall, and presumably through the winter hall closet, because then footsteps could be heard going up the stairs, to be more accurate; the creaking of footsteps. I thought that I was having a waking dream, and was frozen with shock.

At this point our family dog - who was upstairs - went running to the stairway barking, waking my parents up. My father heard the ‘intruder’ and came out of their bedroom only to find no one there at
all.

I wonder sometimes if it was the former owner, who had put a tremendous amount of work into the first floor level. Also, my bedroom was formerly his "hobby" room, and a darkroom was attached. We never did look into it due to other family circumstances at the time, and I wish we had.

Haunted Campus Library

[Ontario]

One of the spirits that I was lucky to come into contact with was that of a former faculty member at the particular university I attended. This spirit was seen, heard and felt in the campus library. He was a rather helpful sort if you happened to be stuck looking through books relating to English essay topics in the campus library.

Now this library was a fairly typical one as libraries go, other than the fact that it is sinking into the ground at the rate of 1 1/2 to 2 inches per year thanks to some ingenious engineers who failed to take into account the weight of the books that would be occupying the six floor building. The building dates back to the 1960's when the university originally opened as a technical college. The cornerstone on the library building lists 1969 as the date it was built.

The spirit in the library is a male roughly between the ages of 40-60.

This spirit would actually make you work for a bit before helping you though. One experience with this spirit (which happened 3 years ago) involved looking through outdated copies of literary reviews for such publications as the Quill & Quire and American Weekly. A bunch of students and myself were looking for articles relating to an essay that we had to write for a particular English class that year.

By the time I had located a volume with info about my topic, my classmates had already left. I was one of about 3 people left on the floor. The other two people inhabited study carolls across the room from where I was looking for books. At this point, I had been in the library for about 2 hours and was getting bored and frustrated as I was not finding a lot of books containing articles to support my point of view.

I found one volume which contained an article that sort of related to my topic in a rather vague way and walked to the photocopier to copy it. There were a few books piled up beside the photocopier left by other students. As I was copying my article, the pile of books fell over opening two of them to other articles that exactly matched the topic that I was researching.

I thought that it was an odd coincidence and thought no more of it. I picked up the two books photocopied the articles and re-piled them. I then returned to the row where I had found the book which I had originally meant to copy from and re-shelved it, only to find another volume on the floor open to yet another article.

About a week later, I was talking to some friends in one of my other classes about the experience in the library and they mentioned some other things that they had felt.

When you first enter the library, there are reference stacks from which someone always seems to be watching you. This has been noted by at least 20 other people at different times of day and night. The library is generally open from 10am till 11:30pm five days a week and various other hours on weekends.

The experiences with the books falling off of shelves and feeling like you're being watched generally happen on the fourth floor. This same spirit also tends to appear on the main floor near the reference desk.

To my knowledge, there have not been any deaths in that particular building. I have spoken to other people who have worked at the university but who were reluctant to expand on the name of that particular person who hasn't quite left the building. To most of the university community, he is there but not to be spoken of in order to avoid scaring would be students.

Cottage Ghost

[North of Toronto, Ontario]

My friends have a cottage up north. Many times I have been there and at night after I get into bed, I feel like something is tucking in the covers. The only way I can describe it is like when your mom used to tuck you in at night. I don't see anything; it's just the sensation of the covers moving.

Last week though, when I was at the cottage, I woke up twice in the middle of the night, the room was totally dark and I looked up towards the ceiling and what looked like cigarette smoke was curling all around me and just started getting thicker and thicker. I was totally fascinated by it but turned the light on and it disappeared. Has anyone else seen this sort of thing, or were my eyes playing tricks on me.

Rabbit Says Good Bye

I was going to my sister's place to taken care of her rabbit will in the house I fell asleep I was so cold I had a deep bone cold inside me. When I awoke I put on my coat to leave and behind me I heard as plain as day good bye. No one was in the house I looked at the rabbit and said good bye and ran out of the house. I always had that deep bone colds in that house.

Haunted At Our Homes

[Scarborough, Ontario]

My girlfriend and I both live in historical sites of the town. I live in Painted Post (Woburn/Dowswell community) and my girlfriend lives around Danforth Rd & Danforth Ave. (Oakridge Neighbourhood area).

The area which freaks us both out the most is Oakridge Park, which is right behind my girlfriend's house. We were both relaxing in the park last night when we both experienced an overwhelming sense of fear and unwelcome ness. We've both experienced uneasiness of heart and mind in both of our rooms as well at our houses.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Haunted Apartment

I have been living in my latest apartment for the last 3 years. It was very boring the first year but then things started to get a little interesting. These are a few things that happened in the last few years, but spread out over quite a few months.

My roommate was alone with one of my cats in her room (no one else was home) and Orion started going crazy and hissing/growling in the open air. Totally freaked my roommate out.

I've had woken up in the middle of the night (not sure if a dream or not) with someone in a deep voice telling me to wake up. That's happened a few times, sometime with something tapping me on the shoulders.

Mostly I have had experience in the hallway of our apartment of feeling like someone was following me. Or when I'm sitting in the living room I hear whispering or a feeling like someone is watching me.

I just got a new cat last year and he loves hanging out in the same hallway. I come home often with him looking up at nothing (I always look for bugs & spiders). Gordie also likes to howl also at a certain time a night (usually between 4 - 5 am... *g*)

Gramma Attempts To Manifest

[Ontario]

My grandmother and I were really close and you know how it is with a grandchild...you never want your grandparent to die. She was my best friend and I visited her every day. I'd seen her the day before she passed and told her that it was ok for her to go because I was going to be ok and it was time for her to go. You see, she'd been an active woman all her life and then at ninety years of age, she had a terrible stroke, which pretty much debilitated her.

Anyway, that night I went to work. It was weekend shift and I had to work twelve hours from midnight until noon. The night went pretty much as expected and then off to home I went. My plans for that day were to go to the flea market with my landlord however, I was exhausted and had no energy so I decided to stay home. I sat there for forty minutes not wanting to do anything but stare at the tv when all of a sudden I got this fantastic surge of energy. I got up and decided to start packing some more boxes in preparation for my impending move.

Well part ways through the packing, my Dad called me and told me that my Grandmother had died at exactly 12:40 pm...the same time I got all the energy to pack. I had a bit of a cry but I decided to continue packing.

I was bent over taping a box up when all the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I had been singing and thought maybe my landlord had come down for a visit. Looking up I found no one there and all of my animals were fast asleep. I went back to what I was doing and then out of the corner of my eye, I saw a leg appear beside me and then another one with it. I stood up and was looking at what appeared to be a newly formed ghost or spirit...they were trying to form but could only manage this bight fuzzy quality.

It was the same size and shape as my Grandmother and even though I knew it was probably her, that didn't stop me from making one big leap to the other side of the room.....it was like someone had suddenly come up behind me and yelled boo! When I turned around, she was running down the hall towards my bedroom and I was picking up the phone to call a friend of mine.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Haunted Hospice

First of all for those who don't know what a hospice home is a home
environment for anyone who is terminally ill. I have seen silhouette’s
of ghost in this house and have heard someone say "hello" a few
times. I have checked it out who was saying hello thinking maybe it
was one of our resident's calling for me for either med's or maybe
needs something, when I did check it out all of the resident's were
sleeping.

Another situation that happen not to long ago was with a elderly
female who had a heart condition, I became close to her while she
was residing at the home, she died during the night before I started
my day shift, I was numb to hear the bad news. We (staff) had
moved her belongings to a room which at that time was vacant.

We have a call bell system in the house which looks like a watch
when resident's need our attention they press the button. While I
was preparing lunch for the 3 other resident’s the call bell system
was going off in the room which had all of the belongings to the
elderly lady, I would go down thinking maybe something was resting
on this call bell, but when I arrived in the room couldn't seen any
signs of the call bell so I shut off the system.

A staff member who relieves me came on, I told her what was
happening during the day shift, she feels that this elderly lady was
contacting me by using the call bell system. I found out that the call
bell was placed inside the office which is locked unless there is a
office staff in there. I started to get goose bumps and the back of my
hair was standing.

I did go into this room which had her belongings in it and said good
bye to her ever since then the call bell stopped ringing for me. Pretty
weird eh?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Haunted Bungalow

There was an elderly couple who used to live here before my parents
bought the house. My father and step-mom bought the house
because the widow died. As a result of his mother's death, her son put the house on the market. Included in the sale, was a portrait of the woman's husband which she kept hung over the bed in the master bedroom.

Neighbours are always a little unsure of whether or not to mention the history of the house to potential buyers. The former resident's husband actually died in the house. He was walking down the basement stairs when he had a heart attack and died. He had the heart attack on the upper landing between the side door and the staircase leading to the basement.

He is a fairly friendly sort of spirit. He tends to help by turning off lights and checking up on us while we sleep. Unfortunately for my brother's girlfriend, waking up to seeing someone staring at you hasn't always been a good surprise! She was a little freaked after that episode.

I have come to think of most of the comings and goings at Dad's place to be relatively normal. We have creaky stairs that you can hear people walking on late at night, a Cd player that will come on while we are watching tv in the living room, and a stove that will turn itself down so that you don't burn dinner when you are home alone.

The odd thing is, this isn't your typical haunted house. It was built in the mid to late 60's and is a 3 bedroom bungalow in a fairly modern development.

Back to the latest developments:
My brother was house sitting home alone taking a nap when the dryer started a dry cycle by itself. No clothes in the dryer, no one home. He woke up in a hurry! Another time that week, his stereo turned itself off in front of him. I haven't spoken to his girlfriend yet, so I don't know the whole story behind the experiences yet (his girlfriend notices more than he does).

There's no teenage energy around to have caused some poltergeist activity and no one's been harmed due to anything that's happened here. Most of the time, there are our familiars (friends and relatives that have passed as well as former pets) who drop by and check up on us.

The Ghost Told Us A Story

[Toronto, Ontario]

I live in a funky three-floor house in Toronto beaches area. This house has ghosts we know for certain there are two but we feel there could be a third as well. I have a dog and three cats, the pets all sense the ghosts as we all watch them when they sense them on the stairs or when Diablo the cat talks to them which she seems to do often by herself ... but the reason that I am writing this is due to a weird thing that happened.

We have four computers here and though three are on the main floor one is on the third floor, the third floor is away from the noise as the stairway to the floor is in the corner of the second floor so it is very quiet up there except when the ghosts are about.

Once in that room I kept closing the door as one of the cats was trying to get out through the window there as the screen was easy to knock out, this was in the spring as with the a/c on they can not access the window; but I had the cats on the main floor with me and I kept the door closed and I heard a bang so I went upstairs to see what was up and the door was open, so I closed it and made the trek downstairs.

This happened twice and I was annoyed as it is a fair hike up there lol .. but then I heard another bang and yelled ok that is it I am shutting this well! When I got upstairs I noticed that a telephone book was put in front of the door to block it open... which was wild as firstly I did not even know we had a phone book and I was the only person home so I know that I had not done this... so I then told the ghost ok if you want it open it will remain so and I just made certain the window was closed so the cats could not get out.

Another night my roomie, who has his computer on the third floor, was playing with a voice recognition program. He was not having any luck so he came down to chill with us and use the computer on the main floor. Later that night a few hours as we watched a movie or two he went to turn his computer off and had noticed that the program was left running and had picked up text.

It was weird and I have it somewhere but it sounded like a story. The ghost was talking about the window and seeing someone out there. We tried to talk in the room to see if it would pick up our voices and it would not. We left it on overnight to see if anything more could be picked up but the program froze so it did not but it was wild and I know it had to have been the ghost.

I live with my niece she is 20 and she has always seen ghosts, they freak her out so she doesn't talk to them but she can see them, I can sense them but not actually see them.

One night I described what I felt the ghost looked like and she confirmed that was one of them, the other that lives here comes through as a dark shadow outline type the first though is a man who lived here.

The Lamp Was On Without Being Plugged In

[Oshawa, Ontario]

Well, in the house I am living in now we have had a few weird things happen.

First of all, my husband was up in the bedroom by himself and a light
by the bed stayed on for 10 minutes without being plugged in. Second of all, I had turned a light off in the bathroom, went halfway downstairs and looked and it was back on.

Also, my son has a toy remote control car which kept going by itself all the time with no one around and no one touching the controls, it even went backwards all the way across the room once and it doesn't even have a backwards control on the car.

Also, on the year anniversary of my grandmothers death, my husband and I were talking about her, this happened to be around midnight, not sure about the significance of this at all, but all the sudden my husband started talking about all these things to do with my grandmother that were from when I was a child that he never knew. He even described a house she used to live in that he had never been to!

He said he felt she was sending him messages, this was very weird as there was no way he would have known or could have found out these things he was telling me. They were things I had totally forgotten from my childhood.

Then I felt very strongly a presence in the room. It made everything feel very heavy and I felt as if she was right there. Could really feel it through my body, it is the weirdest thing I have ever experienced. Then I felt the presence physically lift from me and go away. I knew she was gone, but she had wanted to communicate with me one more time before she was gone for good. My husband had also told me that she was telling him things about what happened not too long before she died. And before she died she couldn't really talk, or seemed to be in a vegetative state for years.

There have been other things that have happened here as well. As in regards to my stepfather dying; he was very close to my son, was like a grandfather to him. On the night he died, my son said to me, "Chris says, hi gator gator, I'm alright"!

My son was 3 yrs old when this happened. Alligator was what my
stepfather called him all the time. Then he said, "Chris says, Tracey
(that’s me) are you listening to me?" It was the strangest thing. This
was when my husband had gone over to be with his mother and wait
for the coroner after my stepfathers’ body had been discovered hours
after he had a heart attack.

Since then my son has told me many other things that my stepfather
says to him. I do believe he can communicate with him. I know some
people may not believe in these things but I believe very strongly in
the experiences I have had.

"Cottage Seance"

by: Beth

[Kawartha, Ontario]

Many years ago, a group of about 6 of us stayed overnight at a friend's cottage. It was located near a lake in the Kawartha's just outside the Peterborough area. The cottage was fairly secluded with many trees surrounding it. It was also the dead of winter and we didn't arrive there until 10:00 p.m. After settling in and starting a fire in the fireplace, it was decided by my boyfriend that we were going to try and summon a spirit by reciting from a book he had brought. I decided not to join in on this as I felt it was dangerous, and warned everyone that it was foolish to try to evoke a spirit when you have no idea what you're doing or what you could possibly "invite". No one was taking it very seriouly so despite my objections, they decided it would be "fun" to try.

Everyone sat around the kitchen table, lit a few candles for effect, closed their eyes and joined hands. I sat away from them in a corner of the kitchen where I could see everyone without actually participating. Steve began reciting various passages from the book. This went on for about 15 minutes with the occasional laughter and teasing - but everyone settled down eventually and within a short time, one of the girls began to breathe quite deeply. I watched her closely. Her head was hung down and I could see her shoulders rising and falling with the deep breathing. Then, very slowly she began to lift her head so I could see her face more clearly. Her eyes were still closed and she made no noise, but tears were streaming down her cheeks. No one other than myself realized what was going on. I was getting extremely nervous at this point. Then she opened her mouth wide as if to scream. At that point I jumped up and told everyone they had to stop this NOW!! The girl had been holding hands with her boyfriend (who was quite large and very strong). She shook him off like he was a small child and jumped up looking very frightened and disoriented. When asked, she said she couldn't really remember what happened during the last few minutes of the "seance".

This rattled everyone and we spent the rest of the evening speculating what might have happened had we let this continue. Needless to say, no one got any sleep that night. I've never been involved in anything like this since - and I won't even touch a ouiji board! I slept with the lights on for a month afterward!

Who Threw The Tomatoes?

[St. Albert, Alberta]

Well, one afternoon my friend was over we were just reading about some ghost stories and then she had to go to the washroom. She asked me to go along because she thinks my house is haunted (my grandpa and auntie died in this house). And well so I go up stairs with her and I wait in the kitchen while she goes to the washroom.

Out of nowhere these tomatoes just fly off the middle of the washing machine. I got freaked and just stood there staring at the tomatoes. And ever since that day, I have seen shadows and my room has been getting cold all of a sudden then going back to warm. Like right now it feels like someone is looking over my shoulder while I type this.

All The Candles Had Been Relit

[Brampton, Ontario]

I was home alone with my mother and my brother. We had gone out for the night with some family friends. We all came back to my mom's house and my mother lit a few candles. At around 2:30AM they left. My mother blew out the candles and watched the flicker of the candle disappear.

My brother and I spent the night at my mother's house, and at the time my cousin had been living in the basement. About a half hour after we had gone to sleep we heard a loud bang. We all were awaken by this disturbance, and all met up in the hall. We heard my cousin running up the stairs and flinging the basement door open and asking my mother if that had been her. My mother shook her head frantically and replied, "I thought that was you".

I felt a shiver run down my spine and I turned around and saw that all the candles had been relit and I asked my mother if she had blown all the candles out she replied "yes". Then I asked her "Then why are they all on again?" And from this day on we don't know what ever happened on that day.

Footsteps And Popping

[Oshawa, Ontario]

It was about 12 o clock and my brother heard a noise coming from the kitchen (at that time I was asleep). And he says he felt a bone tingling coldness when he heard popping from the kitchen. It was like popcorn maker was on but we do not have one.

The next night he heard someone (a heavier man) coming up the stairs with a loud pounding on the stair, and the next night someone walked down the hall, I heard it too because I didn't believe him so I stayed up.

Mom Pays a Visit

[Toronto, Ontario]

This story I am about to tell you made me a true believer in spirits. It was back in 1990, I was 19 and had just lost my mother earlier in the year due to cancer. I also became pregnant very near her death. I was not married to my boyfriend at the time but I was living with him and his family for a little while during my pregnancy. Things were just not working out for us so I decided to move back home. When it came close to the time for me to give birth I decided to move back home with my brother as he was not handling my mother's death very well. I just needed to be at home to deal with my situation and be close to my family in their time of need too. When I moved back home I took over my mother's room as it was the biggest one in the apartment and I thought that with the baby all the room I could get would be beneficial for me.

I loved my mother a great deal and when she passed away, I myself was having difficulties handling it and then to find out I was pregnant was twice the shock to deal with. My family supported me a great deal and my brother was willing to help me raise my child. As my boyfriend and his family were not so supportive about the situation.

I came home after giving birth to my son and for the first couple of weeks it was very difficult to handle the change of routine and to deal with a crying baby 24/7 alone. My brother helped me as much as he could but I remember sitting in the room wishing for my mother to be there to help me. I truly needed her guidance and help with the baby. I did not have a clue about what to do or how to do things. I was still trying to figure out about life myself. Well after one night of extreme difficulty with my son I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. My son was fast asleep and I was just about to lay down and fall asleep too. I had just turned out my bedroom lamp and laid down in bed. Within a few minutes I heard a bang against my closet doors. I thought it was my brother coming into the room and I sat up to give him hell and to tell him to get away from the baby and let him sleep. I saw a figure in the dark leaning over the side of the crib and just looking at my son.

The body shape and height was the same as my brother's so I was not frightened and just told him to get away from the crib and to go back to bed, everything was fine. The figure moved and stood straight but did not turn around. Little alarms went off in my head and I became afraid. I thought that someone had broken into the apartment. I turned around just long enough to flip the light on and turn back to look towards the crib. As I was turning around to turn the light on I heard the same bang as before which woke me up. No one was there. Now I was mad and thought that my brother was playing a trick on me and I went storming into his room to read him the riot act. He was sound asleep even snoring like a freight train. Now I panicked and the fear about someone breaking into the apartment returned. I raced down stairs to check the door only to find the alarm chain still activated and everything locked up tight.

Then I started to wonder if it had indeed been my mom coming to see her first born grandchild. I still had my doubts until I spoke to my Godmother a few days later and I was telling her about my experience. She stopped me mid way through my story and finished it for me in exact detail as what had happened that night. You see she had a dream about my mother visiting with my family and how my mom just wanted to make sure all was well with us.

To this day I still remember about that night and still get the goosebumps. I loved my mom alot, I miss her greatly and even after passing she showed me that she still loves and misses us alot too.

I feel comfort in knowing that she is with me and my family in spirit forever and always.

"Orbs Hovering Around The Ceiling"

by: Sheri

[Oshawa, Ontario]

I live in an old house built in 1924. I have had several things happen to me in this house. When I sit in the livingroom and watch tv I see light balls hovering around the ceiling. I always get the feeling that there is someone coming down the stairs and I think I see someone and no one is there.

One year at Christmas I had a mug that you lift up and it plays a Christmas song. As I was talking about my departed father to my son, the mug on top of my fridge started playing Christmas songs.

When my children were younger they would go to the 3rd floor of the house, which is their toy room, and play with an imaginary friend named Marion. My departed grandmother's name is Marion. I also do not go up to my third floor at nighttime as I get a very unsettled feeling up there, and am getting shivers up my spine just thinking about it.

At one time there was a fire in the house, but I was unable to find any history to see if there was any deaths in it. I also find shiny dimes all of the time, and I have been told by a psychic that this is one way the dead let me know that they are around. Thank you

Ghostly Hitch Hiker

[near Portage La Prairie, Manitoba]

One day when I was driving to work, I took a short cut cause I was getting late. There was a man who was hitch hiking so I picked him up. The place where I picked him up was called Dead Man's Curve. Anyways, he got in my car and we carried on a conversation. I was also wondering why he sat in the back. When I was getting near Brandon he asked me for a cigarette. I said "Sorry I don't smoke". Then he started getting all rough, so I pulled over and told him he had to get out.

I slowly drove off then when I looked in my rear view mirror he was there, but this time with no eyes. When I got home I called my friends and they sayed to never pick any body up from Dead Man's Curve again.

The Green Apparition

[Vancouver, British Columbia]

I was living with my best friend at the time, in an old house that his parents had completely renovated about 2 years previously. His mom had moved to California, and his dad took a contract job in Kuwait, so I moved in for 10 months. I had noticed a few things in the first few weeks I was there, but I figured that they could have been reasonably explained. My friend's parents did not own a television, nor did we, being only 18 at the time. We hooked up an old computer monitor to a VCR that I had brought from my parents place, now the monitor was old and everything displayed green. One night I was at home by myself watching "tv" with the lights off in the living room, when an old cedar chair I owned creaked the way it does when somebody sits in it. Completely surprised I looked at the chair and saw the perfect silhouette, in green, of a person sitting in my chair. I jumped up and turned the lights on and I could no longer see this silhouette, thinking my eyes had fooled me, I left the lights on and continued to watch "tv", when about two minutes later, there was a sound like someone was getting out of the chair. Well my heart started pounding, I turned off the lights and there was no silhouette.

Later, I asked my friend if he had ever had any odd experiences in the house, he refused to talk about it. It wasn't until about 3 years later when he moved out did he start telling me about things, he told me about a time that when the renovations were still being done, that he was playing his drums in the unfinished part of the house and he heard footsteps, louder than his drums, coming up the steps. He stopped playing and called out his dad and sister's names but there was nobody there, not even in the finished section of the house.

He also told me about a time when he was by himself in the house and he took a shower. He said he shut the door, cause he always shut the door, and when he got out the door was closed, but not latched. He was not positive that he latched it but it was when he looking in the mirror and he saw the door open behind him did he yell out. There was nobody home, and he claims that there is no way the door would have opened like that.

My friend's family no longer owns this house, but I would love to have the chance to live there again, now that I am a little bit more brave, and a lot more curious.

Someone Was There After All

[Toronto, Ontario]

My daughter (almost 18) was visiting at our former home last weekend and while having dinner in the diningroom she looked up and saw someone standing near the end of the table, beside the french door to the livingroom.

That same door for years was often slamming shut and opening, scaring company, but only when people were actually in the livingroom. The door never moved when we were in other parts of the downstairs, and as I mentioned in a post on the Toronto site some time ago, the movement had stopped when the livingroom wallpaper was removed. I had thought that maybe it was a residual energy left there (a message about having to put the wallpaper up on the hottest day of the year was by the door in pencil, with dates and names, etc...).

Anyway, she was surprised to see a tall man standing there watching them, wearing maroon pajamas, with "stringy hair and high cheekbones or sunken cheeks due to illness". She said that he was very pale and looked very unwell. It did not occur to her at first that she was seeing a spirit. She thought someone had wandered in.

When she looked over to see what the others thought about this sudden visitor standing there, she realized no one was looking and quickly glanced back. He was not visible by then.

This reminded me of when she was very young and had a high fever (spinal damage, so her fevers often spiked to 105F then). She had been crying and then stopped, smiled and babbled away. I had said, "Who are you talking to, sweetheart?" She pointed towards the same spot where she saw the gentleman the other night and said, "That nice man." I thought at the time that she must be hallucinating, but maybe it was him all along.

She Held A Shilaleigh

[Wainwright, Alberta]

I was at home, at about 6 AM. I wasn't feeling well, and couldn't get back to sleep. I decided to get out of bed. I took my comforter and headed for the living room. I entered the living room, and plopped down into the chair. I turned on a movie, and fell asleep. At about 7 AM I awoke. I was thirsty, and suddenly cold. I headed to the kitchen to fetch a water bottle. I got one from the cupboard, and went to the washroom to fill it. I had filled the water bottle, and looked up into the mirror of the bathroom. In the doorway to the living room, floated a woman in an old suit. The kind with the frill in the front, and she held a shilaleigh. I couldn't even scream, I was so scared. The entity disappeared, and I returned to my movie, thoroughly shaken.

Barefoot Apparition In White

[Kingston, Ontario]

I was driving with a friend a few years ago to Kingston and we decided to take the scenic route along the Thousand Island Parkway. It is a beautiful stretch of highway. We began to come around a curve in the road, when all of a sudden, I saw what looked like a young woman walking along the side of the road wearing a white dress and barefoot. All of a sudden, she disappeared behind the trees, but the trees she disappeared behind were beside a really steep enbankment and anyone who attempted to walk down that way would fall and get hurt for sure but she was nowhere to be found. My friend did not see what I saw, so I thought maybe my imagination was getting the better of me. The only thing was I knew that this kind of thing had happened to me many times before and so it was not that far off from being real.

A little farther up the road, my friend's car started to act up so she decided to stop her car and look under the hood. Right across the street from where we pulled over, there was this forest like area with a little clearing, right on the side of the highway. It was kind of an odd spot for this kind of clearing. And then I noticed that there were about four or five old graves in there and it was what looked like a family cemetary on the side of the highway. I was intrigued and decided to go in and look at the graves that were there and see who they belonged to. They were not kept up over the years and were broken and basically looked abandoned. Well, upon entering this small abandoned cemetary, I started to feel extremely nauseous and dizzy. I noticed the graves were indeed those of a family and a couple of them belonged to small children. I decided to investigate this further when I got into Kingston. I found out this gravesite was of an affluent family from Kingston in the 1800's who owned some kind of mill or plant or factory or something. The children who passed away died of influenza as well as the mother. It made me leave wondering if the woman I saw on the highway that day was the mother and if that nauseated feeling I had was kind of a "sympathy pain" I was getting from being in this cemetary. The experience was very odd, but I have not forgotten it since that day.

Old Whitby Psychiatric Hospital

[Whitby, Ontario]

A few of my friends and I went there in the summer of 2004, we were curious about it. We went into the building called the Children's Ward. We had to crawl in through a basment window. The second we got in I got a terrible vibe from the place. I mean it was really, really creepy.

Anyway I noticed that throughout the building there was an area where it was cold or there was a breeze. At one point I swore I heard children laughing. Only me and my friend Sam heard it, Sarah and Tiff didn't hear anything. I really wanted to leave after that, but they insisted we keep looking around.

We went into one room and there was whispering and foot steps. We all heard it this time, it was quite terrifying. We all made haste and left after that. On our way out I kept on hearing footsteps following us, and not just one set, like alot of them.

Anyway it's 100% haunted by my books, and by lots of other people I know who have gone.

"Papa Had His Good Suit On"

by: Laura

[Westville, Nova Scotia]

This is a story of what happened to me 8 years ago. I was 17 at the time. When I was younger, I used to do a lot of babysitting. Especially for my aunt and uncle, who have 4 kids. So when they asked me to babysit this particular night in February, I didn't think much of it.

Everything was going fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I was in the kitchen talking to a friend of mine on the phone, when I heard my cousin in the living room saying "There's papa!"

I hung up the phone and went into the livingroom to see what was going on. It was about 9 pm so it was dark outside, not to mention they lived on a road with maybe 6 houses on it. I looked out the window and didn't see anything.

I asked Nick, who was I think around 4 or 5 at the time, where he had seen papa (which is what we called our grandfather).

He said he had seen him outside in front of the house on the road. I asked if our grandmother was with him. Nick said no, and that papa had his "good" suit on. I didn't know what he meant. He told me he had on his red tie and his suit that he wore to special occassions. I looked again, but saw nothing.

I kinda blew the incident off. Then later that night I got a phone call from one of my relatives saying that my grandfather had died in his sleep.

After what had happened earlier, I was understandably freaked out and upset.

The funeral was a few days later and sure enough, my grandfather was buried in the suit that Nick had seen him wearing the night he had died. This has definitely made me a believer in the supernatural.

"Darby and Hannah's"

by: Darby

[Pennfield, New Brunswick]

Ok one day us (Darby and Hannah) were playing air hocky down in Hannah's basement. I (Darby) looked off to one side and seen a man walking from one room to another. The man was all white, I told Hannah and she said that she had seen the same man days before that. She also said that she had heard noises when we ran back upstairs. We both heard the same noises, it was freaky.

Also there is a forest behind Hannah's house where we always hear noises out there. It is so scary, and the scary part is Hannah and I are neighbours.

"Green Orbs and Angry Poltergeist"

by: Kendra

[Winnipeg, Manitoba]

My sister and her boyfriend were renting a small house in the Elmwood area when they noticed some strange occurrences. It began with hearing strange noises in the living room and bedroom. They had a dog who also picked up on these noises and was in turn, very nervous all the time. One night in particular my sister and her boyfriend were sleeping, he awoke to find himself being chocked and pushed all the way down to the bottom of their water bed. He looked up and saw that the curtain beside the bed was up, stiffly bent at a 90 degree angle. He also saw greenish orbs floating above. My sister never heard or saw anything. On another night my sister was alone as her boyfriend worked occasional nights. She heard groans and, thinking it was the dog, went back to sleep. She realized though, that she had dropped off the dog for surgery earlier that day, so it was not the dog after all.

My sisters boyfriend would also notice glasses being moved from one end of the coffee table to the other, he would actually watch the movement.

Many other instances of paranormal activity occurred. After awhile, they happened to be cleaning up, they lifted the carpet to see a large hole had been cut away on the carpet below. They also took some wall boards down and found blood spatters.

They moved away quickly. I did some research some time later and found that a young woman had been murdered there, her boyfriend had slit her throat, and she lay bleeding to death for 3 days.

I should also mention that the electricity was always shorting out and flickering, and my sisters pets all died.

"Who Turned Off The TV?"

by: K.W.

[Mississauga, Ontario]

One time, this was sometime last year, I was watching tv, and then all of a sudden, the tv just turned off right on it's own. And the flicker was like at the other end of our coffee table. My mother said it was probably just an electrical problem, but I'm not so sure.

And also, every now and then, sometimes when my parents aren't home, I can almost swear that a female {sometimes it's a male} voice yelling my name from upstairs. I don't know what it is, but I sometimes think it's either my Grandpa who passed away a few years ago, or my Aunt Cheryle Ann, who also passed away a few years ago.

And when I was little, and during the summertime, I would often look up into the clouds and I could almost swear that I saw angels. Weird isn't it?

"He Was Right There Examining Us"

by: Charlie

[northern Ontario]

Well this is pretty interesting, but nerving as well. When I was younger, about 14 or so, me and my sister who would've been 8 at the time, moved into a new rental house with our parents. The house was, and may still be owned, by the same Chinese family that rented it to us. It was nicer than any house we had ever lived in. It was huge (not what we had ever had) it had 5 bedrooms 3 baths, a dining room that measured 15'x25' and a rec room in the basement the same size. It had study rooms and extra little rooms everywhere. My father filled one of them with his religious books and materials, as well as stuff for his business. Within a day or two every book and item in there had been covered with mold, totally destroying them. Weird.

After a week or so, me and my sister were very unsettled about this place. My parents thought nothing of it. We heard foot steps and doors slamming, loud creaking sounds, and wind type sounds.

One day we were down in the rec room and I was incharge while my parents were out. We were watching t.v. All of the sudden this cold blue, yet calm face, of an oriental man (elderly) with one of those "Fu Manchu" mustaches, looked around the door at us both. I became excited and my sister ran to the far corner of the room screaming. I really couldn't move that well. After a second or two, I ran and covered over her. I kept looking over my shoulder and he was right there examining us, kind of looking all over at us but making eye contact with me when I would look at him. Then after a minute, tops, of all this he was gone. So I said "lets run outside and wait for mom and dad", and we did. Fast.

Our parents came home and we told them and went inside. My dad said "don't be so stupid, get in the house" and they did nothing.

A few days later I had to watch my sister again and we didn't want to be in the house, but we had to listen to my father and stay in the house. He was a strict man. We were watching t.v again, this time with the door to the rec room closed, and we heard thump thump thump really fast then bang! We heard that same pattern a few times and decided to investigate on our way to the front door. The bathroom upstairs was at the end of the hall with three stairs at the other end (where we standing), then the beginning of the dining room. The door handle turned and we heard some little bit of feet dragging and we backed up out of the way of the stairs and some blueish heavy set man with curly short hair jumped down the three stairs (thump thump thump). Then jumped really high and (bang) landed in the entrance of the dining room, looked at me in the eyes and blew in my face this cold cold smell. He then made an excited face, ran towards the dining table, and was gone. We went screaming outside and the house was banging and thumping and the door slammed a couple of times. My sister ran to the neighbors and I was about ten steps behind her. We waited there for my parents, I even thought it was a real person for a while. My dad came over to us as we were yelling at him "we're over here" and he said sorry to the neighbour, brought us home and spanked my sister and yelled at me for embarassing him.

That night I slept at the foot of my mother's bed while my sister slept beside her. My father was downstairs watching t.v, he fell asleep on the couch. We all awoke upstairs to my father shouting bad words and death threats very loudly, and was throwing things down stairs at some "chinamen" as he said. He came upstairs and grabbed us and put us in his car as the doors were opening and closing, and slamming. We drove to my uncl's house and the next morning I asked my mom where dad was and she said "he's with you uncle" I thought nothing of it. He went there with my uncle, packed every thing and threw it in a van and truck and we never went back. My mom said that must have been why it was for rent so cheap.

"The Little Girl In The Windows"

by: Rebecca

[White River, Ontario]

When I was younger I would have to have a glass of water at the side of my bed in case I needed a drink in the middle of the night. One night my mom forgot to leave one for me. So I went to the bathroom to get a drink from the sink and to go use the toilet. When I was sitting on the toilet, I looked out the window and there was a little girl standing there crying. When my mom heard me scream she came running in. I turned to show her the little girl, but she was gone.

Every once in a while I still see that same little girl in the windows.

UPDATE (Received May 27, 2005):

by: Melinda

I have to reply to one of the stories that was sent. It was from Rebecca, my daughter. The house she is talking about is about 100 years old, one of the oldest homes in White River. Many strange things have occured there. One night after the kids went to bed I was sitting in the living room when I looked up and saw a woman walk out the front door. I froze and did not move for quite some time. When I finally got up to investigate she was gone. Did I mention that the original owners of the house are buried in a small cemetary in the lot next to the property?

UPDATE (Received August 21, 2006):

by: Laura

I know of the Graveyard which she (Melinda) speaks of. As a child I spent countless hours in White River visiting relatives, and I can vouch for Melinda's comments. The Graveyard in question is indeed a spooky place. And I was always told "never to find myself anywhere near the Graveyard after dark". There were remarks made by some of the relatives that perhaps there was a few restless souls that Haunted the Graveyard. It's a very old place, and still strikes an unsettling feeling in me.

"TV Problems And Footsteps"

by: Miranda

[Red Deer, Alberta]

My family consists of 5 people, my husband, my three children (10,7 & 3), and me. We moved here in August of last year and thought we were moving into a nice, safe neighbourhood (we may have been wrong).

My 7yr old son had the first paranormal experience, in which he had a dream that a small girl(around his age) was talking to him beside his bed. Thinking this was just a childhood dream or an imaginary friend, my husband and I just ignored this. At Christmas time, my grandparents were here, and my grandfather sleeped in my son's room, he too dreamt about a small girl (same description) talking to him beside the bed. Now it seemed a little strange.

Around the beginning of March, my son started to say there were weird things going on in his room -- the t.v.flicking on and off and channels changing. Again, just thinking he's 7 and imaginative, I ignored it.

For the first time since we moved here I was alone in the house (everyone else had gone for family visits-I had school). I went into my room (mid-afternoon), and as I was about to fall asleep, I heard what can only be described as children's footsteps running down the hall upstairs and into the living room.(I was half-asleep, so I choose to chalk it up to a half-dream).

Not thinking anymore about it, later that same day, I went into my son's room to feed his hampster, and as I got about half way across, the t.v.flickered on, waited for a few minutes and flickered back off.(Ok-now I'm getting a little spooked). I left his room and called a friend.(Who instantly questioned my sanity-Can you blame her?). Anyways-she came over, to see if anything weird was really happening or if I was losing my mind. Well, Thankfully, I have not lost my mind-as soon as she got here, we went downstairs, and the same thing happened, t.v. on, t.v. off, and this time it happened for about 2 minutes consecutivly.(Whew-it's not just me whose spooked now). As soon as the T.v. seemed off for good, she also heard the footsteps upstairs. (She was convinced that we were both crazy). This happened all day, T.v. and footsteps- she called her husband to come and experience this as well (also a non-believer), who left just as shaken as we were. (All of the above happened while he was here as well.)

As I sit here, I can hear the footsteps and the T.v. flickering on and off, and am still wondering about my own sanity in staying in this house.(I should be in a hotel or somewhere else by now.) I honestly believe there is a little girl ghost in this house, and if anyone knows how to contact her(or find out about her) I'd appreciate a responce in finding out how to get her to leave us alone. My son isn't allowed to watch t.v.past bedtime, and she won't listen to my pleas to leave the t.v.off. (my husband also thinks I'm losing it by talking to her as though she is real).

That's it, that's my story, and really, I'm a healthy, normal woman, who just experienced something quite amazing and almost unexplainable.

"Did You See That?"

by: Annette

[Wikwemikong, Ontario]

Way back in the late 80s, my brother, sister, and myself were driving towards town from our family farm, which is roughly a five minute drive. As we neared the village, we noticed a man walking towards town as well, but on the other side of the road. He was very tall and extremely thin. He had an old black coat with tails on, and pants and a top hat with black and white stripes on them. All of his clothing was dusty and wrinkled, as if he lived in them. We did not see his face, as we were heading the same way he was. We drove past him.

As we turned a corner, I finally asked, "Did you see that?" Yes, was the reply from both of them. My brother then turned the car around and we went back to see who it was. In the minutes it took for us to turn around and head back around the corner to where we had seen him, he had disappeared. However, there was nowhere for him to go, except into the woods. In general, I have a bad feeling about this, even thinking about it now gives me a chill.

"Apparition Visits Farm"

by: Deborah

[Omemee, Ontario]

We lived on a very old farm, about 100 years old, and I just had my son, who was about 4 months old at the time. I just got ready for bed, and I turned over and just happened to look into the glass closet doors, and there was this lady just sitting there watching. She had long dark brown, or maybe Auburn, hair colour and she was wearing a white cotton dress. As I watched her, she slowly rose and I watched until I saw her feet disappear.

I was so scared that I couldn't move or breath. Well a few minutes went by and my brother-in-law came upstairs and I started to scream and told him what I had seen. He just laughed it off.

Well I know what I saw, and no one will tell me different.

"Shadow Figure Manifests On Sidewalk"

by: Jag

[Vancouver, British Columbia]

Once around 5 years ago, at about 11 at night, I was walking home from work. This particular street had no streetlights, so it was pitch black. Then from a distance (around 50 feet away) I saw a black shape, the size of a human, but all black, just float into the middle of the sidewalk staring right at me.

This is weird cause it was pitch black already, and this black figure was darker. When I saw this, I got a shock in my body. I was scared, I just stared at it for about a minute, hoping it would go away. But it didn't, so I just turned around and walked the other way really fast. I always kept thinking that it reminded me of the grim reaper.

"Hooded Entities on Texas Road"

by: anonymous

[Amherstburg, Ontario]

Texas Rd is a popular ghost siting spot since the 50's. My son was there and the story he tells is really incredible. Two people "climbed" down from a tree (the tree was not "climb-able" we have pictures of the spot) and landed on the other side of a fence below. They had hoods and blurred faces and walked in a side-step fashion into the graveyard.

It's amazing to hear him tell the story. He came home saying it was weird that these two people would be in a tree like that although he was extremely frightened when he saw it, they looked directly at him. Then as he started to tell us the story, he just couldn't describe their faces he said they were blurry but they had strange hoods.

I've never heard anything like it. I'm sure he would tell it to you if you wish. They have gone back trying to see the people again but haven't seen them. We searched the web and there is at least another report of "pilgrims" being sighted there, which could explain the strange outfits.

"Abusive Husband Returns From His Grave"

by: anonymous

[Sarnia, Ontario]

I am relating a true story that happened in 1981 in an old converted church. The owner had changed it into six apartments, three floors, two apartments per floor. This story is true, it happened to me, but I do not wish my name mentioned.

After leaving a very abusive husband I took my two year old daughter and moved to the 3rd floor apartment in this old building. There was regular visits from my husband and the police. At the rear of my apartment was a door which led out to a fire escape. The woman in the adjoining apartment also had one. This wonderful woman saved me a few times. She would leave her door unlocked so at any sign of trouble, I could grab my daughter and get to safety in her apartment. When my husband finally realized he would never get me back he committed suicide.

After a few months I moved away, wanting to start a new life in a new city, which I did with no regrets.

About four months after I moved away, I received a call from my "Angel" neighbour. She was frantic.

Another single woman and her three year old daughter had moved into my old apartment. Her daughter would wake her mom up and say that there was a man in her room. Her mother would put her back in bed telling her she was just dreaming. Apparently this continued. First the woman thought it might be the large stuffed animal she had hanging in the corner and removed it. She also got a nightlight for the little girl's room.

The child continued to wake her mother saying the man said she was not his little girl and should not be sleeping in her room. One night the mother went out and left her daughter with a babysitter. The sitter was watching TV and got up to go to the kitchen. There sleeping on the hallway floor was the little girl. She put her on the couch to sleep until her mom got home. Not knowing what else to do the mother changed bedrooms with her daughter thinking that would be that!

That same night she woke up hearing whispering in her ear and someone shaking her bed. Thinking it was her daughter she sternly told her to go back to her bed. She said all of a sudden she got very cold and her hair stood up at the back of her neck. She was punched in the stomach from un unseen fist. She got up and grabbed her daughter, left the apartment and stayed with her boyfriend for the night.

The next day, she went to her next door neighbour and asked if there had been any violence in her apartment. My friend told her about me and the circumstances surrounding my life. She then called me long distance to relate this story that was told to her by the woman living in my old apartment.

I was terrified! I contacted a psychic I had known for years through my father. He told me that it was my husband looking for me and especially his child. The only way to rid this spirit was to go back with my daughter and stay in the apartment. This is exactly what I did.

I waited until around ten pm, staying next door at my friend's until that time. My sister came with me. I took my sleeping daughter and placed her on the bed. We lit a white candle and said a few prayers. Then I spoke to my husband in a calm voice, telling him that his daughter was safe and that we no longer lived there. I asked that he "go to the light" where love was and to never come back and frighten this family again. I told him I would always look after his daughter and he could believe she would be safe. A part of me was terrified that he would appear or I would be punched. The more I spoke softly to him, the calmer I became.

I went back to my city the next day. Nothing more happened in that apartment to the mom and her little girl. Nor did my husband follow me.

"Shadow Figure Follows Family"

by: Louise

[Toronto, Ontario]

This happened just a couple of years agao. I started noticing shadows from the corner of my eye. I'd been living in my apartment for two years when this started. THis very large, man shaped shadow would hang out in front of my bedroom door while I was sitting on the couch, watching tv. Then I started noticing the shiny dimes on the floor. In the space of a few months I found at least a dozen.

One night, as I was preparing for bed, I walked towards the bathroom, in the dark, intending to have my last bathroom break for the night without bothering to turn on the light, as was my habit. As I passed the bedroom door, I felt a hand first cup and then lightly pinch my rear end. I was totally freaked out, of course, shrieked and ran to my son's bedroom to tell him what had happened. He was quietly lying in bed watching his own tv so it couldn't have been him. He got up and walked with me towards the bathroom and flipped on the lights. My hairdryer, which I kept plugged in all the time, had slipped off the top of the toilet tank and into the bowl. It wasn't quite in the water and the thought of what could have happened had I sat down in the dark made me wonder, did my mysterious visitor try to warn me of the danger?

After that, I would often see his shadow and once or twice he tried to get closer to me but it scared me and I told him "look, you are freaking me out so keep your distance. And he did!

One night, my son was watching a movie in his room and then decided to join me in the living room. He turned off the tv, left the room and then suddenly we heard the tv come back on. My son went back and turned it off, no sooner was he in the living room that it went on again. This went on a few times until my son addressed our visitor. "hey, I've seen this movie before, the bad guy gets shot by the good cop ok? so stop turning the tv on. The tv stayed off.

My son and I often tried to puzzle out who our visitor was. He just didn't feel familiar but neither did he feel threatening. I moved and thought we'd left him behind until the door chimes of my new house started going off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. The really weird thing was that the bell chimed a different tune than the normal four notes it ususally chimed. We started joking how our visitor had finally found us and was asking to be let in. One night, when the chimes went off at 3 am, I simply said, "I'm sorry but I don't want to let you in here." They never chimed again. I've never seen him again and often wonder who he was.

"Shadow Figure Strikes Again"

by: Scorpio

[Scarborough, Ontario]

In May of 2005 at about 5:30 p.m. I was lying on my bed (my bedroom is upstairs) trying to get rid of a headache. I had slept for about half an hour and woke up feeling a lot better. I sat up at the edge of my bed and had been wide awake for a good 5 minutes (trying to decide what to do about dinner, etc). From my vantage point on the bed I can look downstairs into the hallway that leads to my kitchen. While sitting there I saw the figure of what appeared to be a man walk into the kitchen and so I just assumed that it was my son home from work. I did not see any clear features, just the dark silhouette of a person - very shadow-like but still more 'solid' than just a shadow. It is always a bit dark in that hallway, so it didn't seem unusual that the features weren't visible, also I was upstairs looking downwards from about 15 feet away.

I waited a minute or two but didn't hear noise or movement from downstairs so I got up and called over the stair railing to my son. My daughter, who was upstairs all this time, answered me from her room saying that he wasn't home from work yet. (He didn't arrive home for another half hour after this incident.)

I wasn't alarmed, just kind of amazed at what I had seen. I was fairly sure no one had entered the house and I went downstairs just to make sure everything was okay. I didn't feel particularly frightened or threatened -maybe because at the time that I saw it, it appeared not to notice me but rather just calmly walked into the kitchen and disappeared from my view.

Whatever it was, it fit the description of what I've read about some types of shadow people. A little while after that I got a bit 'creeped out' when it dawned on me what it could have been!

"Are You Going To Check?"

by: Veronica

[Oshawa, Ontario]

I lived in this big house years ago. I was renting at the time. It is very old. There were small things that happened like touching us (taps likes a child) and whispering. It was a place that I called my home, I was fine with it.

Until one night, I was sleeping and I had heard my youngest crying. She was in a crib. I was thinking to myself "she is okay" and that she will go back to sleep. I laid there listening to her. I was somewhat awake and sleepy. I then had this voice in my head that spoke "Are you going to check?" I am really not sure if they said "her". Well I felt really angry. I talked back, stating that I was not. She would go back to sleep. And then, the angry thing gave me a blast of a high earpiercing ring in my head and ears. I think I grabbed my ears and wondered things. Stop it. What is this. It happened so fast and intense. Then with it like a wind that went right through me I could feel the thing go through me as my whole head had been in a strong wind. The hair on my head just raised and blew up. I was lying down. This was anger? All this happened very fast. I shouted. "LEAVE ME ALONE!" I came too and looked around and nothing, I was lying there with my arms criss cross against my chest. Hands had been fist closed and I just laid there. I then woke up my husband and asked him to check on the baby. She was fine. She was back to sleep.

After that I did not want to get up. While he was up I went to the bathroom and left it on. To be communicating like that is very unknown to me. (Through thoughts).

"Girl With No Legs"

by: Erica

[Winnipeg, Manitoba]

I moved into a town house in the north end in January of 2000. It only took 2 weeks of living here before I began to experience some odd things. The first one I remember was hearing my dryer door slam. I was quite freaked out. Then a few days later I was folding laundry (by the dryer) and I felt something rub on my leg. I ran down my stairs and never folded laundry in that area again.

I had a lot of problems with my lights turning on and off by themselves. Sometimes I couldn't even turn on a light, it just wouldn't turn on. But when I went to change the light bulb it would suddenly start working.

I heard my cupboard doors open and close. I had many people say that when they went to my bathroom my closet door would be closed, and when they would come out of the bathroom it would be open. A lot of people felt a presence while being in my home.

I no longer reside there, but I did stay there for almost 5 years. I moved out 4 months ago when things got bad. I saw what seemed to be a ball of smoke forming in my living room, it only appeared for about 5 seconds then it was gone. I began to hear a lot of things being moved around in my daughter's room when she wasn't home. I heard a glass smash, when I went upstairs to investigate I found a broken glass shattered on my hallway floor.

The thing that scared me the most was my daughter running to me with the most frightened look on her face saying that a mean girl was sitting on my chair and she was scared of her. She said the girl had no legs so she couldn't say how old she was. I moved away shortly after.

"My Little Girl Appeared Out Of Nowhere"

by: Erica

[Guelph, Ontario]

One afternoon last summer in our 2 bedroom raised bungalow, my family and I were having a relaxing day from what was left of a hectic weekend. I was doing laundry in the basement when I saw my young 3 year old daughter come down the stairs and run right by me.

There is only one room in the basement, besides the laundry room, and that is where Nicole had entered which was our Master Bedroom. I then entered my room where she had gone and I noticed she was not there. I know for a fact she did not come out as I was right beside the door way. I walked upstairs where my husband and 12 year old daughter was and asked them if they saw Nicole run by and both said she was fast asleep in her bedroom. I glanced in on her and there she was fast asleep in her bed.

Till this day I am not sure what I saw and what really happened and this was only the beginning of what was to come next.

"Bloor and Dovercourt"

by: Bill

[Toronto, Ontario]

I grew up in Toronto...The bloor and Dovercourt area... There is this house we lived in, that when I think of it now, I wondered how my family came through living there for several years.

Upon entering, there was an immediate feeling of gloom and depression to all who entered. Several people died there while I was growing up.

My mom one night awoke to go to the bathroom that was installed by my dad in the basement. When she went to turn on the light, she saw my dad's father at the bottom of the stairs. At this time he was gravely ill in the hospital. At that hour she saw him, he had died in the hospital.

I used to hear audible voices. and always had a feeling of being watched. When we moved out it was like breathing anew for a first time in many years.

Since then I have read a report of a haunted house in the Bloor and Dovercourt area. I'm thinking it was probably my house.....lol....

"Downstairs Then Upstairs"

by: L.

[Brampton, Ontario]

We lived in the basement apartment of this house and had some haunting experience there before we moved to the upstairs apartment and had more experiences. In the basement apartment, the tv went off without no one being near the remote. And the dead light bulb in the bathroom came back on (it was a dead one when we moved in).

Upstairs apartment, a picture that was sitting on our tv fell forward as if it were pushed and fell to the floor. No one was near the tv at this time. We feel as though something is here but that it's not harmful.

"Haunted Basement"

by: M.

[Edmonton, Alberta]

When I was young (about 7-10), my family and a bunch of our family friends would have a party a couple times a year at this one house. The people who held the parties had a son who was about 16 at the time, and who was friends with my brother who was a year younger than him. Another family who always came had two sons, one the same age as my brothers and one about my age. Well anyways, everytime there was one of these parties all of us kids would just go and hang out in the basement. In the basement there was a shower where supposedly a previous owner died in from a heart attack. Everytime we were over there something would break, maybe a glass or, a picture frame or vase etc.. Sure it could have been just a coincidence but hey it was every single time, and this was going on a couple times a year for a long time. Also the TV that we would watch would just turn off at random times, while the controller laid untouched on a table away from everyone. When we tryed to turn it back on (either with the remote or by pushing the button) it would stay off, and we would wait like a minute or two and than it would turn back on. Than after this if it didnt just go back to normal, the tv would just randomly change channels, and when we tried to change it back with the remote the remote wouldn't work. This whole routine with the TV would happen often, although maybe not every time.

Well that didn't really freak us out too bad, we just sort of shrugged it off after things happened. But the one thing that freaked us out (especially me) the most was one night while we were watching a movie in the dark, all of a sudden there was a loud shattering of glass noise. We turned on the lights to find a glass on the floor shattered. The creepy thing is that, the glass was sitting in the middle of a table far from legs reach of any of us in the basement so none of us could have knocked it off. Also the table was fairly low to the ground, and the basement was carpeted, so i can't see how the glass could have shattered by falling off the table (despite the fact that it was in the middle and the table was far from any of us reaching it). Well after that happened i didn't go there too much as I was quite young and easily scared, and eventually i just stopped going too these parties as I got older.

"He Doesn't Like Dogs"

by: Heather

[St. Pauls, Ontario]

This is actually a story of two different occurances. When I was about 2 years old we moved in a house in St.Pauls, close to Stratford. I was sitting in a room and my mom came in and asked what I was looking at (I was looking at a chair in the corner of the room) I told her "the man in the corner" and she looked and me and said "what man?" and I just said the same thing again! It scared my mom cause she didn't see anything there.

My next story is about my mom. One night when she was laying in bed she heard slamming of doors downstairs and then someone running up the stairs, but when they got to where the room was the noise stopped and she didn't see anyone. It really scared her because right then she thought it was a ghost considering our house was over 100 years old when we bought it!

We were talking to my cousin about it and she was saying she talks to ghosts and one day when she was over for a family gathering and it was all over she let the ghost that lived in our house come along for the ride and she talked with him the whole way home. He had told her that he was mad when we moved in because we had a dog and he didn't like dogs. Later on I was told he moved into the garage to get away from the dog.

Since then we have had diferent things happen cold spot and creacking and my cat and dog always bark or meow or hiss at things that aren't there. We would really like to find more history on our house and see if anything interesting happened there.

"At The Corner of Her Bed"

by: Rachel

[Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario]

The experience happened to my sister, and I am going to relate to you what she told me. She was 10 at the time, and I was 13. We were visiting my mom's aunt and uncle, who had a farmhouse in old mennonite country. When we arrived there, we were really creeped out, because they had headstones lining the border of their front lawn, which were eerily illuminated by our headlights as we arrived there at night. The next day (in broad daylight, of course) my sister and I examined the headstones. They were from the 19th century, many for children who had died young. It was kind of disturbing. When we asked my mom's aunt about the tombstones, she explained they had moved them and the cemetery was in the front yard. Ew.

Our second night in their home, my sister and I were moved to the old master bedroom where we slept that night. When I awoke in the morning, my sister was a little upset. She told me that she had awakened in the middle of the night on her back (she never sleeps on her back) with her toes pointed toward an old rocking chair in the corner. She looked straignt ahead of her where at the corner of the bed, a woman in 19th century dress was staring at her. She immediately pulled the covers over her head and tried everything to wake me up, including shaking and pinching me. I am a light sleeper, so it's really funny that I did not wake up. She swears (and she is not the kind of person that has an overactive imagination) that this happened.

Practically sitting on a cemetery, I'm not surprised we saw something. With children having died there, maybe it was a mother who could not rest because of her angst over her lost children. Who knows. Interesting to speculate why she appeared to my sister.

"Under The Bed"

by: Hildegardt

[Toronto, Ontario]

The first room I rented after immigrating to Canada from Germany. I forgot the address, but it was in the vicinity of St.Clair and Keele and a bit east from there.

After living for a very short time in this room, I came home one night really tired. Just as I went to bed, the moment I turned off the light, I heard all the books and magazines (that were on top of a small bookshelf) falling over and sliding down onto the floor. The sound could not have been mistaken for anything else. Lying in bed in the darkness, the following thoughts went through my mind; “should I get up to pick up everything and straighten out the bookshelf now, or should I do it in the morning before going to work.” As tired as I was, I decided to do it now, because in the mornings I was always in a hurry to get out, to be at work on time. As I turned on the light and looked at the bookshelf, I could hardly believe my eyes. There was not one book or magazine out of place. I pondered what I could have heard. Finally I put it down to any strange noise that I misinterpreted.

Wanting to go to sleep, I turned off the light again. All of a sudden there was a noise as if someone jumped from the window down right in front of my bed. My heart almost stopped. I knew the window was locked. I jumped---pulled the chain on the light which was mounted on the wall above the headboard. Again, everything appeared normal. My heart was still racing. I lied there for a while, before I turned the light off again.

Then I heard the scariest sound of all. It sounded as if someone shuffled under my bed from one side to the other. I was laying there frozen. Afraid to move and afraid to breathe my, heart almost jumping out of my throat. I realized that I had to take a breath, as I did I jumped, pulled the chain on the light. Again--- no more noise. Now I wondered if there was really somebody under my bed. It took awhile to built up my courage to get out of my bed and check underneath. There was nothing. I decided to check every corner of my room, the closet, the shelves etc. after establishing the fact that there were absolutely no physical signs of any kind which I could connect with the sounds, I became very curious . I went to bed that night with the lights left ON. Now I started experimenting. I was determined to find out what all this was about. I found out that whenever the light was off and the room was in darkness, the sound would appear. With the lights on, there was silence.

I felt that I wanted to talk with someone about these occurrences, but being afraid that they might think I had gone mad, I kept quiet. I hung in for two more weeks, when I notices a very uneasy feeling. Finally I talked with one of my co-workers (Maria) about it. Asking her, please don’t laugh or tell me that I am crazy, for what I am about to tell you. She promised and kept her promise, but she was extremely shocked as she listened. She said that something very bad must have happened in that room, and that some of those spirits could be very dangerous. I didn’t really want to believe it, but she made me promise that I would do what she suggested to find out if they were dangerous spirits or not.

She went to her church in her lunch hour to get a small bottle of Holy Water. Instructing me to sprinkle the Holy Water into the three areas where the noises came from---turn the lights off ---and go to bed. She said I there would be silence in the dark, the spirits would be evil and were fleeing from the Holy Water, and I should be moving out of that room as fast as possible. Which I did.

"Britney Come Find Me"

by: Britney

[Saddle Lake, Alberta]

About a year ago my older brother use to work at a store as a night watchman. He told us that the workers there seen black shadows and a little girl wearing a white long dress and they heard people talking and things falling on the floor. Anyways me and my sister really wanted to go with him to work to see if we could see or hear anything. So one night our parents let us go. While I was upstairs in the store by myself I was just sitting on a chair surfing the web when I had a weird feeling someone was watching me and I felt a cold breeze. I got really scared so I decided to go see my brother and sister downstairs. As I was about to walk down the stairs a little girl called my name so I turned around but nobody was there. I thought it was my sister playing a joke on me so I decided to play along. She called me again saying "Britney come find me" so I said "Quit playing around this is creepy". But nobody answered me.

Than I was gonna start walking again then the same voice said "Britney let's play". I got really creeped out so I ran downstairs really fast. When I got to the bottom of the stairs the lights flickered then I ran to my brother and told him what had happened. And I told him I wanted to go home so he called our parents to come pick us up. Ever since that night I believe in ghosts and I never wonna go to a haunted place again. And yeah the people still hear and see things there. One worker even quit because something pushed her down those same stairs I ran down that night.... yeah its pretty creepy.

"Haunted House For Sale"

by: William

[Brampton, Ontario]

Recently my wife and I were looking for a second house for our children to rent from us. During this search we visited a house near the hospital in Brampton. On entering none of the lights worked downstairs. As we moved through the house we climbed the stairs to the second level. On looking back to the bottom of the stairs I noticed a grey mist which floated across the bottom of the stairs and through the wall. I did not say anything at the time.

The real estate agent we were with was very careful about leaving lights off. Upon leaving the driveway the outside light was on. She assures us the switch was off when she left.

Later I mentioned to my wife that I thought the property was haunted and she immediately said "I know". As she was walking through the hallway at the bottom of the stairs she felt a brush on her arm as if someone had touched her. Needless to say we did not buy the house. This was two years ago and we noticed the other day the house had just been sold (or resold).

"Lady In White"

by: Bobbi-Sue

[Winnipeg, Manitoba]

Ok believe this or not when I was at my dad's house a few years ago there was a few strange things that happened. First of all when I was playing hide and go seek with my brother and some friends I was it. I went to the stairs then out of the corner of my eye I saw a woman in a white draping torn dress! She went into the bathroom! I told my friends and brother I didn't want to play any more so I went up stairs.

Then about a year later we were watching a movie. We paused it so my dad could go get something and then all of a sudden we heard a BANG! It sounded like something broke up stairs. But we were all downstairs which was very strange. My dad and his friend went upstairs to see what happened. Nothing was on the ground. Another time at the same house my dad saw an old man walking in the hallway!

Now my dad has moved just down the road and nothing out of the ordinary has happened except some strange knocking!

"Grandpa Makes A Visit"

by: Erin

[Kirkland Lake, Ontario]

When I was about five years old we moved into a bigger apartment. I was so happy because I would finally have my own room, before that I was sharing with my two brothers.

I had alot of energy, and never wanted to take a nap, because only babies have to take naps. So, in the afternoon, my mom would send me to my room, and told me I had to be quite so I didn't wake up my little brother. I usually feel asleep within five minutes.

I had a hope chest across the room from my bed and I could easily see it when I was laying down. I woke up from my nap one day to see a man sitting on my hope chest looking at me. All I really remember now was his blonde hair, the same colour mine was, and bright blue eyes. I wasn't scared, some how I knew he wouldn't hurt me. When he realized I was awake, he smiled, and I fell back asleep.

Later that day, I told my mom about seeing him, and she asked me what he looked like. I told her, and she went to her bedroom, and got a picture. She asked me if the man in the picture was the one I saw, and it was.

The man was my Grandfather, my Mom's dad, who died in a car accident when she was four years old.

"Dead Horses"

by: Melissa

[Saskatchewan]

My grandpa told me this story that happened to him. Him and some other people who worked on farms. They would bring a herd of horses to different farms and during the night they would all sleep in a small barn on the floor. When they would get up in the morning the mane would be braided and that one horse would be dead. It was going on every day that they had to work, so one night my grandpa heard a noise, he didn't know what it was so he went to see what it was. He walked down the hall and seen a little guy on the horse riding it up and down the hall. The little guy on the horse looked like he was red with horns. He thought he was dreaming so he went back to bed. The next day that horse's mane was in a braid and it was dead.

"The Windows Keep Turning Black"

by: Ashley

[Halifax, Nova Scotia]

There happens to be a house on Oxford Street, I'm pretty sure, that is in fact haunted. Story has it that many years ago a mother lived in this house with her two sons who went off to fight in the war. Every day the mother would look out her window waiting for them to come home, but they never came. The sons actually died in the war, however she refused to believe this and continued to constantly gaze out of the windows of the house.

When the lady died, the windows mysteriously turned black and have been ever since. Even if they are replaced, they will soon after turn black, but no one knows why. It is true this house does exist.

The story I just mentioned is the one I have often heard, but I have once heard someone say a person committed suicide a long time ago in it. Those are the two different stories I have heard. It's really interesting though. I'd recommend taking a look at it if you're ever in the city. I wish I knew more information regarding the background of this strange house. Then again, I suppose some things are best undisturbed.

"Guardian Angels"

by: Anthony

[Bedford, Nova Scotia]

Well I have had a number of cases of different people watching me during the course of my evenings. I have felt spirits for the last four years (starting when I was 14).

In my house it always felt like I was being watched. No matter where I went. Especially at night in the evenings between 12am - 5am. I invented my girlfriend over for the night and she told me that she felt that someone was in the room with us - but no one was there. I was a little freaked at that point. So I asked her what she meant. And she told me my grandfather was in the corner. So I got out my camera because I thought she was bluffing. So I took a picture of the corner and sure enough I got a picture of an orb in a chair. I zoomed in on the orb, and what did I see my grandfathers face. She has also told me about my grandmother and two of my cats. I never believed in ghosts - until that moment!

Now I'm scared but hooked.

I miss them very much. And very glad they choose to be me and my mom's guardian Angel when we need them... May they Rest in Peace.

"Cottage Ghost Follows Her Home"

by: Karin

[Sauble Beach, Ontario]

We (my mom Maria, my stepfather Jerry, and me Karin) once lived in a cottage north of Sauble Falls, Ontario. The cottage has since been torn down. Anyway, the cottage was haunted by two children and a dog. When mom and I would sit down to watch TV the kids would sit beside mom, and the dog would lay at my feet. They just became part of our family. We didn't set out dinner plates or anything like that, but we just let them be.

One time after christmas, we had the lights on on our tree while we had a snack and watched our show. Mom told me to turn off the lights on the tree, suddenly the tinsel on the tree moved on one side. This is just one sample of our ghost children.

My mom has seen also a man walking down our lane and disappear, he walked with his head down. When he looked up and saw her, he vanished.

Even to this day, ghost come to my mom. The children did not follow us when we moved, but I swear sometimes I can feel the dog still with me.

"Touched On the Shoulder"

by: MaryAnn

[Lowbanks, Ontario]

Let me start by saying that I live in a very old farm house. There is a room upstairs that just felt "wrong" -- like you just shouldn't go in there. The pipe from the woodstove goes right up through that room, but it was always very cold.

A friend of mine told me that a windcharm will discourage anything supernatural from staying in the room, so I hung a small windchime in the corner. It took a few days, but the room is now very warm and feels like a "normal" room.

Not too long after this, my Mother and I were in the living room, when we heard LOUD banging from the basement! I thought it was my husband in the basement, hammering on the pipes for some odd reason, but then he came out of the bathroom! No one was in the basement to bang on anything.

*spooky*

There have been other odd occurences here, babies crying, touches on people's shoulders, hearing our names called when we are alone in the house, lights flipping etc.

A few months ago, we found out that the son of the man who built this house died between the house and the barn, so I figure it's old Mr. Firth saying hello!

"Grandma Visits"

by: Bobbi-Sue

[Winnipeg, Manitoba]

A few months ago my grandma died. On the night she died I saw, at about 1:30, a light like a car go by in my mom's room! I thought it was a car at first, but there were only bushes behind the house. The next day we found out that she had died that night around 1:00 or 1:30am, so I believe it was her vistiting me.

About a mounth later I was almost asleep when I could have sworn it was her clearing her throat! I then could feel something on my foot. It scared me a little, but it was all good.

During the summer me, my friend, cousin and brother were having a sleep over. My friend went into the hallway to look at her reflection in the mirror, nothing out of the ordinary really. My cousin, my brother, and I saw her then go into the bathroom, which is right across the kitchen.

The only problem was a few seconds later she came from the hallway and into the kitchen. I jolted in my chair! She asked what was wrong and I asked if anyone else saw her go into the bathroom. My cousin and brother both said yes, and she said she saw someone go into the bathroom too!

My friend was very nervous because apparently if you see a spirit/ghost that looks like you or a friend, the person is going to die soon after. My friend, cousin, brother, and I were a little shocked about that. Well I am glad to say my friend is still alive and kicking (but still catches colds every now and again).

"The Cat Comes Back"

by: Gladys

[Niagara Falls, Ontario]

One evening after my husband had been out, he came home to find a black cat in our kitchen which had come in through the open door earlier that evening, unnoticed by myself. We decided to keep her, she was starving, obviously a stray. We named her "Peek-A-Boo".

Approximately one month later we realized Peek-A-Boo was pregnant and soon gave birth to three tiny black kittens. We had to force her to stay with them and take care of her kittens. As being a stray all she wanted to do was leave the house instead of being a tending mother to her babies.

One day about two weeks after the kittens were born, I walked in on her attempting to chew the head off of one. Horrified, I called the SPCA in our area and took Peek-A-Boo there where they decided to put her down, saying she would not likely be adopted out due to her nature.

It was the following spring that my husband and I were re-tiling our kitchen floor, getting ready to sell our house, that I first felt that Peek-A-Boo was a ghostly presence in our home. I was sitting on the kitchen floor about to install another tile when I felt a brushing against my left hip. I looked to see if it was Screech, one of Peek-A-Boo's kittens we kept. There was nothing around me. Curious I got up and looked for Screech, finding him curled up asleep on my bed. It puzzled me, I told my husband about it and we shrugged it off.

Three days later as I was in my kitchen doing dishes, I felt a brushing at my ankles as if a cat was doing a figure 8 around my feet. I looked down expecting to see Screech, and again nothing. This creeped me out severely this time as I knew I was not imagining the soft brush of cat's fur. Once again searching for Screech I found him laying in front of the fireplace.

I am convinced Peek-A-Boo was making contact of some kind with me, never feeling hostile, always a loving touch, I now feel easier with having to had to put Peek-A-Boo down. This is my ghost story, although involving an animal, a true story none the less. Thank you for letting me share.

"I Stayed For Only Four Months"

by: Theresa

[Oshawa, Ontario]

When I lived in my house in Oshawa I had a bedroom where my closet door would lock for days. I would also get up in the middle of the night and the attic door would be open, on the way back from the bathroom, it would be closed and locked.. I was the only one in the house.

Sometimes I would go upstairs and in the bathroom, the toilet paper would be ripped and thrown everywhere. The dogs would not go upstairs alone and you could feel someone watching you as you were showering. I stayed for only four months.

"Whitby Psychiatric Hospital"

by: Dan

[Whitby, Ontario]

I was a guard at Whitby Psychiatric Hospital in 1988 to 1989. One night I got a call that a doctor's dog was going crazy when the elevator went by in Building 30. Her office was located on the second floor. I went in, saw that the elevator was on the 3rd floor, called it and went to the 2nd floor. The doctor explained that her dog normally ignores the elevator (it had a habit of starting up on its own and travelling the floors) but that night was an exception.

After I asked to borrow the dog, we went up to the 3rd floor. I was about half way around the floor when the dog stopped at a door. The dog started sniffing and I said "What do you hear Max?" The dog looked at me and turning back at the door started pawing it. I got my keys, put the key in the lock and all I had to do was turn the key and the door was open.

I felt a sudden wave of terror go through me and my hand would not obey the signal from my brain to open the door. I pulled the key out and tugging on the dog's leash said "Let's go Max!" I had to get out of there really fast! The dog wouldn't leave that door and I had to drag him away with all my strength. (Max was a medium sized dog). After the dog was about ten feet from the door, he finally came with me.

I headed back to the doctor's office, handed the dog over, said "Found nothing, gotta go now!" and headed out of that building as quickly as I could. I started feeling like a coward and returned. The doctor had left for the night although she appeared to be ready to work through the night and I left.

The next day, I retraced my steps and found the drag marks on the floor. I opened the door, looked inside and found only undisturbed dust.

I heard later that years previously, a patient had murdered a nurse on the third floor and then committed suicide. He has been known to scream at the guards telling them to get out of his building.

"Little Girl Lost"

by: Crystal

[Edmonton, Alberta]

Hi everyone, I would like to share an experience I had when I was 15. My friend came over to watch movies and have a sleepover, we stayed up until about 2am (like teen girls do) but as we shut off the light we heard a knock. We didn't think much of it, besides my grandfather likes to try to scare us if we're being too noisy. So I got up and looked into my grandparents room but they were both asleep. So I didn't say anything, just brushed it off and went to bed.

Not long after I layed my head down I heard a little girl's voice say "I don't like it here anymore, I wanna go home". I sat up instantly and got cold chills. My friend asked "did you hear that?" I said "I think so, you mean I wasn't dreaming?" my friend said " No I don't think so, it sounded like a little girl". At this point my heart was pounding. So at the same time my friend and I repeated the words exactly. We still didn't want to believe so we got up and searched inside and outside for a little girl, but saw nothing. So we just went to bed and tried not to think of it.

"Apparition Goes To Lunch"

by: Richard

[Picton, Ontario]

I was working in a plant in Picton, Ontario. I had been there about a year when strange things started happening. During the evening shift there are only two of us working in the maintenance department. During breaks I would catch someone entering the shop out of the corner of my eye. The person would walk into a room that we make our hydraulic hoses in. When I would go to see who it was, there was nobody there. I told my partner about it, and he said that he sees him all the time. Apparently this man had fallen to his death 15 years earlier, and the room used to be the lunch room. He was wearing a red hard hat, which he told me was the color that used to be assigned to the maintenance department.

One night I had to make a hydraulic hose, and the lights had not worked for 6 months or so, and I had to use a flashlight to see what I was doing. I cursed because it was difficult to hold the light. Suddenly the light came on. I froze and said thank you. After I left, the lights went off and stayed off. I still see him every night repeating the same pattern.

"Harrassed by the Old Hag"

by: Joe

[Victoria, B.C]

For five years I lived in a haunted house in Victoria. I would like to share with you a few of my stories. It started out very small things would go missing and weeks later would return to the same place were they disappeared from. This not only happened to me but to my mother. But as time went on things got worse.

Now I like to share with you three of the most terrifying nights of my life. My bedroom was located in the basement, nothing ever happened upstairs only in the basement. One night I was laying in my room getting ready for bed. It was me and my two dogs, I still can feel how cold it got in my room that night, I couldn't see anything but I knew something was standing right over me. I was so scared that I couldn't even scream for help. The other thing that freaked me out was that the dogs were shaking. While this was happening my brother who was in the other room came in, he too was shaking with fear. We made our way upstairs and slept on the couch that night.

Not too long after this happened I had a friend over, it was around 4pm, we were in my room listening to music when he said to me that he felt as though something was watching us. I had never told any of my friends that I thought the house was haunted before this. I also could feel something standing in the doorway of my room. On my wall my mother had hung roseries and some crosses. Without warning one of the roseries had begun to swing back and forth on the wall, my friend seen this and bolted from the house. While leaving he ran my mother over. He was my friend for 15 yrs but he refused to come inside that house again.

One night I left my job and started to walk home. I heard someone calling my name, I turned around and at the end of the road there was this old lady dressed in really old clothes and she was mad because I wouldn't come and see her. I ran home but no matter how fast I ran she was still always a block behind me. I got home and told my parents but I don't think they really believed me.

Later that night I woke up and before I knew it my body was pinned to the bed. Someone was sitting on me holding my arms over my head. I tried everything to move but couldn't, then it was gone. While this was going on at first I thought my brother was playing a joke on me. But I was a 3 yr bodybuilder at the time and when I couldn't move what was holding me down I knew I was in trouble. I was 16 when this happened and I moved out as soon as I could.

To this day my mother and youngest brother still live in the house. They have had their church friends over to bless the house, but it is still haunted -- not to the degree it was when I was there, but the ghost still let them know that they're here.

Thank you for taking the time to read some of the things that I endured while growing up in Victoria.

"Lights and Electronics Turning On and Off"

by: Gina

[Hamilton, Ontario]

One day I had two of my friends over and my mom had to talk to me so i left and when I came back they told me that my t.v went on and off and the converter was all the way on the other side of the room. Then when they went to the store I was in my room alone and I put the converter down on the flat table and I get up and the t.v turns off, then I stoped I'm like okay? what was that...then it turns back on...out of no where!

That same night I plugged in my phone to charge and it was sitting there for about an hour, and I was watching t.v...no one was even near it, and its like the phone almost got thrown off...well not thrown but it didnt just drop its like some one pushed it off lightly. Ever since that some weird things have been happening; like lights flickering, hearing bumps upstairs, and we have things that haven't worked for years turning on out of no where!

"I Thought For Sure I Was About To Die"

by: Jon

[Coldwater, Ontario]

One night I woke up to get a drink. When I got down I looked at the time, it was 12:45am and it was really cold. Anyway I filled my glass with water then turned around. There was a man with an old musket in his hands pointing it in between my eyes. I thought for sure I was about to die. I sceamed and my dog came running in. The man looked around and he ran away when he saw my dog. But the wierd part was that he disappeared as soon as his foot hit the rug in the family room. The next morning I was looking over my shoulder for the whole day.

"The Ghost of James"

by: Kenneth

[Smiths Falls, Ontario]

Well it’s not much of a story as it's me recounting some eerie things that sparked my interest in ghost research in the first place. We lived in a house that was close to 100 years old, it was a nice early 20th century home with big rooms and a nice hard wood floor. The house itself was built in 1905 and it had a fire sometime in the 30's or 40's which took out the back wal
