Haunted Painting Hello everybody, I'm a new member and would like to share this story with you. I'm an artist. One of my first works was a large surreal scene in oils on hardboard in the pointillist technique. It was a desert scene with an ascending line of crumbling colums across the picture; a road wound around the pillars from the horizon into the foreground, small body parts, genitalia and face forms were incorporated into parts of the columns, and floating in space on one side was an outstretched hand - palm up - supporting a bare tree, the roots wound around the fingers. I used my own hand as the model and incorporated long fingernails. I wanted to represent the ghost of a truck behind one of the pillars on the winding road; ideally, it was to have been the main subject of the picture but i was dissatisfied with the result and couldn't seem to get it just right, so finally I gave up and painted it out. The picture was taken to the office where I worked (a transport company) and hung there for a few months, until a client saw it and took it to a gallery owner she knew; it sat in the back of the gallery for a while but was never exhibited; the owner didn't like it. In time I retrieved it and took it home. While it was in the gallery, my mother got cancer and died; the transport company suddenly went into liquidation after three years of successful operation and one of the owners fell ill and died. A friend wanted a picture for his office wall, so I lent it to him and within three months he was abusing alcohol and his business folded. I then lent it to other friends to put in their home and within a few weeks, their stable and happy marriage of fourteen years began to disintegrate; while the woman left her three children to go out with another man, the husband spent many hours with us trying to make sense of things. After that, my mother-in-law had the painting for a while, and went through a rapid succession of stressful jobs; at that time her home was broken into and she was robbed of a possession of great sentimental value. My husband felt the painting wanted to be 'at home' so we kept it with us until we moved to Canada in 1980 and brought it with us. Within four years, I gave birth to a son. Two weeks after his birth, I woke in a panic one night, as I had a vision of his body wrapped from head to toe in bandages floating in blackness above the end of my bed; I swung my legs onto the floor to go and save my baby, but there were evil spirits under the bed which grabbed my ankles and held them so I couldn't move. A week later he died of SIDS. Within 10 months, my husband 44 years old was taken by a massive heart attack. After his death, I took an axe to my painting and destroyed it. I do not have a photograph of it. I have not painted anything in the surreal style since then. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Grandma Says Goodbye My Grandmother and Grandfather had built a new house on their farm land. In the meantime CaneGrandma (I called her this) passed away. Grandad then put their marriage bed and all their love notes and pictures in a downstairs bedroom. Grandad later then, decided to put the house and farm up for sale and move in to a retirement home. At this time I was about 16, I am now 35. (shhhhhh) While going through all their personal stuff, as Grandad had said "I am taking what I need to the R. Home, go through what you want then put the rest up for auction". In the room where all the stuff was that they had put, everyone (the family) said that they were "feeling weird". I felt what seemed to me, gentle carresses, almost like a light breeze. At the end of the day, my mother told me to go down stairs for one last time to shut all the lights off, and make sure things like the fridge and everything was off and unplugged. I did so, and I walked past "the bedroom" and then had this feeling that I had to go into the bedroom, I turned and started walking. As I got to the door the light turned itself off, and the door shut by itself. Everyone told me that it was the wind that shut the door, but I know that it was not, as the door had warped from humidity and was hard to open and shut. I feel that what happend was my CaneGrandma's way of saying good-bye, as a final closure. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Ghost Does Laundry [Lacombe, Alberta] My fiance and I had just moved into a old trailer in Lacombe that his sister and her family previously owned. When we moved in she had said, "watch out for the ghost". Of course we didn't take her serious. Only a few days of being in the home I was standing at the sink in the kitchen (facing north) and my fiance was at the south end of the trailer in the bedroom. I heard a whistle directly behind me and no one was there. Then less than a month later we bought a puppy (3mos old). There's a basement only below the addition that seems very old, like an old cellar. Our dog won't even go near the door, even if we go down. She also barks at an unknown presence as she stares down the hallway or basement door or kitchen. Now this is the one that really makes me want to move out. One night in the summer I was having trouble sleeping and my fiance woke up around 4 am to go to the washroom. As he was coming back towards the living room he was really scared and telling me that he had just seen a ghost! I didn't believe him at first, then I realized how scared he seemed. He said that while he was washing his hands he saw something by the laundry basket in the hallway out of the corner of his eye. So, he looked over and had to do a double take. There was an older woman in what I call prairie-style clothing, she was bent over our laundry basket as though she was about to fold clothes. He told me that as soon as he realized what he was seeing and became scared, she disappeared. One night we were lying in bed and both of us felt tugging at the end of our blanket. I had to move out to the living room that night. Also, one night we were sleeping in the addition when we awoke to our dog barking and as we awoke we realized we could hear foot steps in the kitchen (connected to the addition). We're due with a new arrival in May and I don't know if I'd like to stay here, although whoever it is seems friendly, it still scares me. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Footsteps On The Stairs" [Medicine Hat, Alberta] We moved when I was 10, but before that, we lived in a very old house. My grandparents and great grandparents lived in this house after they immigrated from Ireland. As a small child, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the people who came and looked at me in the middle of the night. I did however feel scared when I heard squeaking noises going up the corridor and footsteps on the stairs. It may sound like nothing but since I've discovered that I possess the gift and many more things like this have happened to me even as an adult. Sometimes it still scares me, but I've learned to treat it as a gift and not a curse. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The Invocation [Toronto, Ontario] This scary occurrence I am about to tell did not happen to me, but to a close co-worker of mine. It took me a long time to get him to tell me, but here goes... I have always been interested in the paranormal, but when I heard about this incident I was set back. I will call him Randy for privacy reasons. Randy was 16 at the time (he is now 22). He was a skeptic until this happened. It was late into the night, Randy was sleeping peacefully until he awoke for no apparent reason. He then opened his eyes because he realized he was chanting words, and his arm was held up mid-air, under no control of his. The words coming from his mouth were "I invoke thee..." over and over. He was struggling inside to get control. He looked around his room and saw a white mist speeding around and around the perimeters of his room. With his arm still 'being' held up and these words coming from his mouth he was starting to freak out. Finally as quickly as it all happened to him, it stopped. As he lay in bed, his heart pumping and forehead sweating he tried to make some sense over what just happened. He told me that he ended up staying awake all night in fears that if he closed his eyes it would all happen again. This was his first and so far last experience like this. As he ended his story (when telling me) he said one last thing "ever since that night I have had nothing but bad luck". I have never heard something like this before. He claims to have been fully awake, and I have no reasons for not believing that. Pretty interesting huh? Thanks for listening. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Stereo" [Manitoba] The first house I ever lived in, is the one I know of as home. I remember a few things that happened to us (my sister, brother and his wife) when I lived there. The stereo and tv would go on by themselves. The stereo didn't have a timer, it was an old record player. My parents still have the tv to this day and it no longer flicks on by itself. I remember waking up numerous times a night and hearing the sound of a train running through my house. And once awoke to an eyeball in my kool-aid. These occurences are nothing to what I am about to share with you... After my parents and I moved out of town, my brother, his wife and his daughter lived in the house. My brother is a truck driver and was not home at the time. My sister-in-law was sleeping when she heard the stereo system go on. She got up thinking her husband was home, only to find that no one was there. She turned off the stereo and crawled back into bed, confused. Not even ten minutes later, the stereo again went on. Getting a little nervous, she grabbed a glass, threw it down the stairs, and it shattered against the wall. The music stopped. She went into her daughters room, barracaded the door, opened the window and screamed for help. The cops were called by the neighbours and found no trace of a break in, and no one present. Though I would love to do an investigation, the house has been sold for years now and I do not know if the new family has experienced anything. But I would love to go home. Believe it or not, but this really happened. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spirit Soothes Dental Patient [London, Ontario] I don't know if this story qualifies but here it is. I had a dentist's appointment in January of 2003, and had to get a tooth pulled. It was not a fun experience, for it was a little painful and afterwards at home {a few hours later} I was rinsing my mouth out with saltwater {sorry about details} in my tiny kitchen and I could feel someone beside me place their hand on my left shoulder. Although there was no one there, I knew it was one of my spirits that visit me on regular basis. I turned and kinda looked in the area where one would be and said "I'm ok just rinsing my mouth out and hurting a little bit". Who ever it was stayed for a few hours just to make sure I was all right. I thank them for looking in on me in a time of hurting. I find if you acknowledge the friendly ones they will be there for you in times of need. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Haunted Garbage Can Hi I would like to tell you a true story that happened in my home when I was 10 I think....I wasn't the only one that witnessed it. When I was just a small child I decided to lay down and watch a movie on tv. So as I was going to lay my blanket down I noticed something in the corner of my eye. I looked over and the most wacked thing happened. My garbage can had slowly laid itself down and than lifted itself up again. I was pretty amazed so I had to investigate to see what caused it. At first I thought maybe it was a mouse or rat, so silly me was looking for a mouse or rat lol. Well When I couldn't find a good reason for that to happen I ran down the hall screaming "we have a ghost DAD!!!!" ...and I jumped into my parents bed and they just laughed at me. They somehow talked me out of believing that it was a ghost, so I went on to watch my movie. A few days later my dad was sitting in the rocking chair watching tv and he witnessed the same thing more than once so he went to see a expert of some sort and he told him maybe someone who had died is trying to contact us. So we came home. Sure enough we got a phone call saying my cousin Jimmy was walking in a river, and the current had taken him under and that they can't find him. I guess this had happened the night the garbage can did that the first time. We looked above the can and there was his picture. To this day they still haven't found his body. I miss him a lot; he was a great friend and a great cousin. Well I don't know what you can make of this, but I thought I should post it anyway. ----------------------------------------------------------------- He Walked Through The Wall [Toronto, Ontario] Most of the "ghostly" activity that I've witnessed occurred during the years in my mother's former home; a split-level on a ravine in Toronto's west end. I'd like to post today about the first time anything happened. It would have been about 1974 or ‘75. We moved there in my teens, and at first there was nothing unusual about the house. One night, however, I woke to find someone sitting on the side of my bed watching me sleep. Assuming that this young man had broken in, and was a threat, I was horrified and tried to pretend to be sleeping until I could calm down. He was wearing a simple button up shirt, I think white, and pants, completely normal. He noticed me waking, then carefully stood and turned to face the dresser on the sidewall. To my complete shock he walked right through the dresser and wall, and presumably through the winter hall closet, because then footsteps could be heard going up the stairs, to be more accurate; the creaking of footsteps. I thought that I was having a waking dream, and was frozen with shock. At this point our family dog - who was upstairs - went running to the stairway barking, waking my parents up. My father heard the ‘intruder’ and came out of their bedroom only to find no one there at all. I wonder sometimes if it was the former owner, who had put a tremendous amount of work into the first floor level. Also, my bedroom was formerly his "hobby" room, and a darkroom was attached. We never did look into it due to other family circumstances at the time, and I wish we had. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Haunted Campus Library [Ontario] One of the spirits that I was lucky to come into contact with was that of a former faculty member at the particular university I attended. This spirit was seen, heard and felt in the campus library. He was a rather helpful sort if you happened to be stuck looking through books relating to English essay topics in the campus library. Now this library was a fairly typical one as libraries go, other than the fact that it is sinking into the ground at the rate of 1 1/2 to 2 inches per year thanks to some ingenious engineers who failed to take into account the weight of the books that would be occupying the six floor building. The building dates back to the 1960's when the university originally opened as a technical college. The cornerstone on the library building lists 1969 as the date it was built. The spirit in the library is a male roughly between the ages of 40-60. This spirit would actually make you work for a bit before helping you though. One experience with this spirit (which happened 3 years ago) involved looking through outdated copies of literary reviews for such publications as the Quill & Quire and American Weekly. A bunch of students and myself were looking for articles relating to an essay that we had to write for a particular English class that year. By the time I had located a volume with info about my topic, my classmates had already left. I was one of about 3 people left on the floor. The other two people inhabited study carolls across the room from where I was looking for books. At this point, I had been in the library for about 2 hours and was getting bored and frustrated as I was not finding a lot of books containing articles to support my point of view. I found one volume which contained an article that sort of related to my topic in a rather vague way and walked to the photocopier to copy it. There were a few books piled up beside the photocopier left by other students. As I was copying my article, the pile of books fell over opening two of them to other articles that exactly matched the topic that I was researching. I thought that it was an odd coincidence and thought no more of it. I picked up the two books photocopied the articles and re-piled them. I then returned to the row where I had found the book which I had originally meant to copy from and re-shelved it, only to find another volume on the floor open to yet another article. About a week later, I was talking to some friends in one of my other classes about the experience in the library and they mentioned some other things that they had felt. When you first enter the library, there are reference stacks from which someone always seems to be watching you. This has been noted by at least 20 other people at different times of day and night. The library is generally open from 10am till 11:30pm five days a week and various other hours on weekends. The experiences with the books falling off of shelves and feeling like you're being watched generally happen on the fourth floor. This same spirit also tends to appear on the main floor near the reference desk. To my knowledge, there have not been any deaths in that particular building. I have spoken to other people who have worked at the university but who were reluctant to expand on the name of that particular person who hasn't quite left the building. To most of the university community, he is there but not to be spoken of in order to avoid scaring would be students. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Cottage Ghost [North of Toronto, Ontario] My friends have a cottage up north. Many times I have been there and at night after I get into bed, I feel like something is tucking in the covers. The only way I can describe it is like when your mom used to tuck you in at night. I don't see anything; it's just the sensation of the covers moving. Last week though, when I was at the cottage, I woke up twice in the middle of the night, the room was totally dark and I looked up towards the ceiling and what looked like cigarette smoke was curling all around me and just started getting thicker and thicker. I was totally fascinated by it but turned the light on and it disappeared. Has anyone else seen this sort of thing, or were my eyes playing tricks on me. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Rabbit Says Good Bye I was going to my sister's place to taken care of her rabbit will in the house I fell asleep I was so cold I had a deep bone cold inside me. When I awoke I put on my coat to leave and behind me I heard as plain as day good bye. No one was in the house I looked at the rabbit and said good bye and ran out of the house. I always had that deep bone colds in that house. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Haunted At Our Homes [Scarborough, Ontario] My girlfriend and I both live in historical sites of the town. I live in Painted Post (Woburn/Dowswell community) and my girlfriend lives around Danforth Rd & Danforth Ave. (Oakridge Neighbourhood area). The area which freaks us both out the most is Oakridge Park, which is right behind my girlfriend's house. We were both relaxing in the park last night when we both experienced an overwhelming sense of fear and unwelcome ness. We've both experienced uneasiness of heart and mind in both of our rooms as well at our houses. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Haunted Apartment I have been living in my latest apartment for the last 3 years. It was very boring the first year but then things started to get a little interesting. These are a few things that happened in the last few years, but spread out over quite a few months. My roommate was alone with one of my cats in her room (no one else was home) and Orion started going crazy and hissing/growling in the open air. Totally freaked my roommate out. I've had woken up in the middle of the night (not sure if a dream or not) with someone in a deep voice telling me to wake up. That's happened a few times, sometime with something tapping me on the shoulders. Mostly I have had experience in the hallway of our apartment of feeling like someone was following me. Or when I'm sitting in the living room I hear whispering or a feeling like someone is watching me. I just got a new cat last year and he loves hanging out in the same hallway. I come home often with him looking up at nothing (I always look for bugs & spiders). Gordie also likes to howl also at a certain time a night (usually between 4 - 5 am... *g*) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Gramma Attempts To Manifest [Ontario] My grandmother and I were really close and you know how it is with a grandchild...you never want your grandparent to die. She was my best friend and I visited her every day. I'd seen her the day before she passed and told her that it was ok for her to go because I was going to be ok and it was time for her to go. You see, she'd been an active woman all her life and then at ninety years of age, she had a terrible stroke, which pretty much debilitated her. Anyway, that night I went to work. It was weekend shift and I had to work twelve hours from midnight until noon. The night went pretty much as expected and then off to home I went. My plans for that day were to go to the flea market with my landlord however, I was exhausted and had no energy so I decided to stay home. I sat there for forty minutes not wanting to do anything but stare at the tv when all of a sudden I got this fantastic surge of energy. I got up and decided to start packing some more boxes in preparation for my impending move. Well part ways through the packing, my Dad called me and told me that my Grandmother had died at exactly 12:40 pm...the same time I got all the energy to pack. I had a bit of a cry but I decided to continue packing. I was bent over taping a box up when all the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I had been singing and thought maybe my landlord had come down for a visit. Looking up I found no one there and all of my animals were fast asleep. I went back to what I was doing and then out of the corner of my eye, I saw a leg appear beside me and then another one with it. I stood up and was looking at what appeared to be a newly formed ghost or spirit...they were trying to form but could only manage this bight fuzzy quality. It was the same size and shape as my Grandmother and even though I knew it was probably her, that didn't stop me from making one big leap to the other side of the room.....it was like someone had suddenly come up behind me and yelled boo! When I turned around, she was running down the hall towards my bedroom and I was picking up the phone to call a friend of mine. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Haunted Hospice First of all for those who don't know what a hospice home is a home environment for anyone who is terminally ill. I have seen silhouette’s of ghost in this house and have heard someone say "hello" a few times. I have checked it out who was saying hello thinking maybe it was one of our resident's calling for me for either med's or maybe needs something, when I did check it out all of the resident's were sleeping. Another situation that happen not to long ago was with a elderly female who had a heart condition, I became close to her while she was residing at the home, she died during the night before I started my day shift, I was numb to hear the bad news. We (staff) had moved her belongings to a room which at that time was vacant. We have a call bell system in the house which looks like a watch when resident's need our attention they press the button. While I was preparing lunch for the 3 other resident’s the call bell system was going off in the room which had all of the belongings to the elderly lady, I would go down thinking maybe something was resting on this call bell, but when I arrived in the room couldn't seen any signs of the call bell so I shut off the system. A staff member who relieves me came on, I told her what was happening during the day shift, she feels that this elderly lady was contacting me by using the call bell system. I found out that the call bell was placed inside the office which is locked unless there is a office staff in there. I started to get goose bumps and the back of my hair was standing. I did go into this room which had her belongings in it and said good bye to her ever since then the call bell stopped ringing for me. Pretty weird eh? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Haunted Bungalow There was an elderly couple who used to live here before my parents bought the house. My father and step-mom bought the house because the widow died. As a result of his mother's death, her son put the house on the market. Included in the sale, was a portrait of the woman's husband which she kept hung over the bed in the master bedroom. Neighbours are always a little unsure of whether or not to mention the history of the house to potential buyers. The former resident's husband actually died in the house. He was walking down the basement stairs when he had a heart attack and died. He had the heart attack on the upper landing between the side door and the staircase leading to the basement. He is a fairly friendly sort of spirit. He tends to help by turning off lights and checking up on us while we sleep. Unfortunately for my brother's girlfriend, waking up to seeing someone staring at you hasn't always been a good surprise! She was a little freaked after that episode. I have come to think of most of the comings and goings at Dad's place to be relatively normal. We have creaky stairs that you can hear people walking on late at night, a Cd player that will come on while we are watching tv in the living room, and a stove that will turn itself down so that you don't burn dinner when you are home alone. The odd thing is, this isn't your typical haunted house. It was built in the mid to late 60's and is a 3 bedroom bungalow in a fairly modern development. Back to the latest developments: My brother was house sitting home alone taking a nap when the dryer started a dry cycle by itself. No clothes in the dryer, no one home. He woke up in a hurry! Another time that week, his stereo turned itself off in front of him. I haven't spoken to his girlfriend yet, so I don't know the whole story behind the experiences yet (his girlfriend notices more than he does). There's no teenage energy around to have caused some poltergeist activity and no one's been harmed due to anything that's happened here. Most of the time, there are our familiars (friends and relatives that have passed as well as former pets) who drop by and check up on us. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Ghost Told Us A Story [Toronto, Ontario] I live in a funky three-floor house in Toronto beaches area. This house has ghosts we know for certain there are two but we feel there could be a third as well. I have a dog and three cats, the pets all sense the ghosts as we all watch them when they sense them on the stairs or when Diablo the cat talks to them which she seems to do often by herself ... but the reason that I am writing this is due to a weird thing that happened. We have four computers here and though three are on the main floor one is on the third floor, the third floor is away from the noise as the stairway to the floor is in the corner of the second floor so it is very quiet up there except when the ghosts are about. Once in that room I kept closing the door as one of the cats was trying to get out through the window there as the screen was easy to knock out, this was in the spring as with the a/c on they can not access the window; but I had the cats on the main floor with me and I kept the door closed and I heard a bang so I went upstairs to see what was up and the door was open, so I closed it and made the trek downstairs. This happened twice and I was annoyed as it is a fair hike up there lol .. but then I heard another bang and yelled ok that is it I am shutting this well! When I got upstairs I noticed that a telephone book was put in front of the door to block it open... which was wild as firstly I did not even know we had a phone book and I was the only person home so I know that I had not done this... so I then told the ghost ok if you want it open it will remain so and I just made certain the window was closed so the cats could not get out. Another night my roomie, who has his computer on the third floor, was playing with a voice recognition program. He was not having any luck so he came down to chill with us and use the computer on the main floor. Later that night a few hours as we watched a movie or two he went to turn his computer off and had noticed that the program was left running and had picked up text. It was weird and I have it somewhere but it sounded like a story. The ghost was talking about the window and seeing someone out there. We tried to talk in the room to see if it would pick up our voices and it would not. We left it on overnight to see if anything more could be picked up but the program froze so it did not but it was wild and I know it had to have been the ghost. I live with my niece she is 20 and she has always seen ghosts, they freak her out so she doesn't talk to them but she can see them, I can sense them but not actually see them. One night I described what I felt the ghost looked like and she confirmed that was one of them, the other that lives here comes through as a dark shadow outline type the first though is a man who lived here. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Lamp Was On Without Being Plugged In [Oshawa, Ontario] Well, in the house I am living in now we have had a few weird things happen. First of all, my husband was up in the bedroom by himself and a light by the bed stayed on for 10 minutes without being plugged in. Second of all, I had turned a light off in the bathroom, went halfway downstairs and looked and it was back on. Also, my son has a toy remote control car which kept going by itself all the time with no one around and no one touching the controls, it even went backwards all the way across the room once and it doesn't even have a backwards control on the car. Also, on the year anniversary of my grandmothers death, my husband and I were talking about her, this happened to be around midnight, not sure about the significance of this at all, but all the sudden my husband started talking about all these things to do with my grandmother that were from when I was a child that he never knew. He even described a house she used to live in that he had never been to! He said he felt she was sending him messages, this was very weird as there was no way he would have known or could have found out these things he was telling me. They were things I had totally forgotten from my childhood. Then I felt very strongly a presence in the room. It made everything feel very heavy and I felt as if she was right there. Could really feel it through my body, it is the weirdest thing I have ever experienced. Then I felt the presence physically lift from me and go away. I knew she was gone, but she had wanted to communicate with me one more time before she was gone for good. My husband had also told me that she was telling him things about what happened not too long before she died. And before she died she couldn't really talk, or seemed to be in a vegetative state for years. There have been other things that have happened here as well. As in regards to my stepfather dying; he was very close to my son, was like a grandfather to him. On the night he died, my son said to me, "Chris says, hi gator gator, I'm alright"! My son was 3 yrs old when this happened. Alligator was what my stepfather called him all the time. Then he said, "Chris says, Tracey (that’s me) are you listening to me?" It was the strangest thing. This was when my husband had gone over to be with his mother and wait for the coroner after my stepfathers’ body had been discovered hours after he had a heart attack. Since then my son has told me many other things that my stepfather says to him. I do believe he can communicate with him. I know some people may not believe in these things but I believe very strongly in the experiences I have had. ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Cottage Seance" by: Beth [Kawartha, Ontario] Many years ago, a group of about 6 of us stayed overnight at a friend's cottage. It was located near a lake in the Kawartha's just outside the Peterborough area. The cottage was fairly secluded with many trees surrounding it. It was also the dead of winter and we didn't arrive there until 10:00 p.m. After settling in and starting a fire in the fireplace, it was decided by my boyfriend that we were going to try and summon a spirit by reciting from a book he had brought. I decided not to join in on this as I felt it was dangerous, and warned everyone that it was foolish to try to evoke a spirit when you have no idea what you're doing or what you could possibly "invite". No one was taking it very seriouly so despite my objections, they decided it would be "fun" to try. Everyone sat around the kitchen table, lit a few candles for effect, closed their eyes and joined hands. I sat away from them in a corner of the kitchen where I could see everyone without actually participating. Steve began reciting various passages from the book. This went on for about 15 minutes with the occasional laughter and teasing - but everyone settled down eventually and within a short time, one of the girls began to breathe quite deeply. I watched her closely. Her head was hung down and I could see her shoulders rising and falling with the deep breathing. Then, very slowly she began to lift her head so I could see her face more clearly. Her eyes were still closed and she made no noise, but tears were streaming down her cheeks. No one other than myself realized what was going on. I was getting extremely nervous at this point. Then she opened her mouth wide as if to scream. At that point I jumped up and told everyone they had to stop this NOW!! The girl had been holding hands with her boyfriend (who was quite large and very strong). She shook him off like he was a small child and jumped up looking very frightened and disoriented. When asked, she said she couldn't really remember what happened during the last few minutes of the "seance". This rattled everyone and we spent the rest of the evening speculating what might have happened had we let this continue. Needless to say, no one got any sleep that night. I've never been involved in anything like this since - and I won't even touch a ouiji board! I slept with the lights on for a month afterward! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Who Threw The Tomatoes? [St. Albert, Alberta] Well, one afternoon my friend was over we were just reading about some ghost stories and then she had to go to the washroom. She asked me to go along because she thinks my house is haunted (my grandpa and auntie died in this house). And well so I go up stairs with her and I wait in the kitchen while she goes to the washroom. Out of nowhere these tomatoes just fly off the middle of the washing machine. I got freaked and just stood there staring at the tomatoes. And ever since that day, I have seen shadows and my room has been getting cold all of a sudden then going back to warm. Like right now it feels like someone is looking over my shoulder while I type this. ----------------------------------------------------------------- All The Candles Had Been Relit [Brampton, Ontario] I was home alone with my mother and my brother. We had gone out for the night with some family friends. We all came back to my mom's house and my mother lit a few candles. At around 2:30AM they left. My mother blew out the candles and watched the flicker of the candle disappear. My brother and I spent the night at my mother's house, and at the time my cousin had been living in the basement. About a half hour after we had gone to sleep we heard a loud bang. We all were awaken by this disturbance, and all met up in the hall. We heard my cousin running up the stairs and flinging the basement door open and asking my mother if that had been her. My mother shook her head frantically and replied, "I thought that was you". I felt a shiver run down my spine and I turned around and saw that all the candles had been relit and I asked my mother if she had blown all the candles out she replied "yes". Then I asked her "Then why are they all on again?" And from this day on we don't know what ever happened on that day. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Footsteps And Popping [Oshawa, Ontario] It was about 12 o clock and my brother heard a noise coming from the kitchen (at that time I was asleep). And he says he felt a bone tingling coldness when he heard popping from the kitchen. It was like popcorn maker was on but we do not have one. The next night he heard someone (a heavier man) coming up the stairs with a loud pounding on the stair, and the next night someone walked down the hall, I heard it too because I didn't believe him so I stayed up. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Mom Pays a Visit [Toronto, Ontario] This story I am about to tell you made me a true believer in spirits. It was back in 1990, I was 19 and had just lost my mother earlier in the year due to cancer. I also became pregnant very near her death. I was not married to my boyfriend at the time but I was living with him and his family for a little while during my pregnancy. Things were just not working out for us so I decided to move back home. When it came close to the time for me to give birth I decided to move back home with my brother as he was not handling my mother's death very well. I just needed to be at home to deal with my situation and be close to my family in their time of need too. When I moved back home I took over my mother's room as it was the biggest one in the apartment and I thought that with the baby all the room I could get would be beneficial for me. I loved my mother a great deal and when she passed away, I myself was having difficulties handling it and then to find out I was pregnant was twice the shock to deal with. My family supported me a great deal and my brother was willing to help me raise my child. As my boyfriend and his family were not so supportive about the situation. I came home after giving birth to my son and for the first couple of weeks it was very difficult to handle the change of routine and to deal with a crying baby 24/7 alone. My brother helped me as much as he could but I remember sitting in the room wishing for my mother to be there to help me. I truly needed her guidance and help with the baby. I did not have a clue about what to do or how to do things. I was still trying to figure out about life myself. Well after one night of extreme difficulty with my son I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. My son was fast asleep and I was just about to lay down and fall asleep too. I had just turned out my bedroom lamp and laid down in bed. Within a few minutes I heard a bang against my closet doors. I thought it was my brother coming into the room and I sat up to give him hell and to tell him to get away from the baby and let him sleep. I saw a figure in the dark leaning over the side of the crib and just looking at my son. The body shape and height was the same as my brother's so I was not frightened and just told him to get away from the crib and to go back to bed, everything was fine. The figure moved and stood straight but did not turn around. Little alarms went off in my head and I became afraid. I thought that someone had broken into the apartment. I turned around just long enough to flip the light on and turn back to look towards the crib. As I was turning around to turn the light on I heard the same bang as before which woke me up. No one was there. Now I was mad and thought that my brother was playing a trick on me and I went storming into his room to read him the riot act. He was sound asleep even snoring like a freight train. Now I panicked and the fear about someone breaking into the apartment returned. I raced down stairs to check the door only to find the alarm chain still activated and everything locked up tight. Then I started to wonder if it had indeed been my mom coming to see her first born grandchild. I still had my doubts until I spoke to my Godmother a few days later and I was telling her about my experience. She stopped me mid way through my story and finished it for me in exact detail as what had happened that night. You see she had a dream about my mother visiting with my family and how my mom just wanted to make sure all was well with us. To this day I still remember about that night and still get the goosebumps. I loved my mom alot, I miss her greatly and even after passing she showed me that she still loves and misses us alot too. I feel comfort in knowing that she is with me and my family in spirit forever and always. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Orbs Hovering Around The Ceiling" by: Sheri [Oshawa, Ontario] I live in an old house built in 1924. I have had several things happen to me in this house. When I sit in the livingroom and watch tv I see light balls hovering around the ceiling. I always get the feeling that there is someone coming down the stairs and I think I see someone and no one is there. One year at Christmas I had a mug that you lift up and it plays a Christmas song. As I was talking about my departed father to my son, the mug on top of my fridge started playing Christmas songs. When my children were younger they would go to the 3rd floor of the house, which is their toy room, and play with an imaginary friend named Marion. My departed grandmother's name is Marion. I also do not go up to my third floor at nighttime as I get a very unsettled feeling up there, and am getting shivers up my spine just thinking about it. At one time there was a fire in the house, but I was unable to find any history to see if there was any deaths in it. I also find shiny dimes all of the time, and I have been told by a psychic that this is one way the dead let me know that they are around. Thank you Sent: July 28, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ghostly Hitch Hiker [near Portage La Prairie, Manitoba] One day when I was driving to work, I took a short cut cause I was getting late. There was a man who was hitch hiking so I picked him up. The place where I picked him up was called Dead Man's Curve. Anyways, he got in my car and we carried on a conversation. I was also wondering why he sat in the back. When I was getting near Brandon he asked me for a cigarette. I said "Sorry I don't smoke". Then he started getting all rough, so I pulled over and told him he had to get out. I slowly drove off then when I looked in my rear view mirror he was there, but this time with no eyes. When I got home I called my friends and they sayed to never pick any body up from Dead Man's Curve again. Sent: October 21, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Green Apparition [Vancouver, British Columbia] I was living with my best friend at the time, in an old house that his parents had completely renovated about 2 years previously. His mom had moved to California, and his dad took a contract job in Kuwait, so I moved in for 10 months. I had noticed a few things in the first few weeks I was there, but I figured that they could have been reasonably explained. My friend's parents did not own a television, nor did we, being only 18 at the time. We hooked up an old computer monitor to a VCR that I had brought from my parents place, now the monitor was old and everything displayed green. One night I was at home by myself watching "tv" with the lights off in the living room, when an old cedar chair I owned creaked the way it does when somebody sits in it. Completely surprised I looked at the chair and saw the perfect silhouette, in green, of a person sitting in my chair. I jumped up and turned the lights on and I could no longer see this silhouette, thinking my eyes had fooled me, I left the lights on and continued to watch "tv", when about two minutes later, there was a sound like someone was getting out of the chair. Well my heart started pounding, I turned off the lights and there was no silhouette. Later, I asked my friend if he had ever had any odd experiences in the house, he refused to talk about it. It wasn't until about 3 years later when he moved out did he start telling me about things, he told me about a time that when the renovations were still being done, that he was playing his drums in the unfinished part of the house and he heard footsteps, louder than his drums, coming up the steps. He stopped playing and called out his dad and sister's names but there was nobody there, not even in the finished section of the house. He also told me about a time when he was by himself in the house and he took a shower. He said he shut the door, cause he always shut the door, and when he got out the door was closed, but not latched. He was not positive that he latched it but it was when he looking in the mirror and he saw the door open behind him did he yell out. There was nobody home, and he claims that there is no way the door would have opened like that. My friend's family no longer owns this house, but I would love to have the chance to live there again, now that I am a little bit more brave, and a lot more curious. Sent: October 24, 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Someone Was There After All [Toronto, Ontario] My daughter (almost 18) was visiting at our former home last weekend and while having dinner in the diningroom she looked up and saw someone standing near the end of the table, beside the french door to the livingroom. That same door for years was often slamming shut and opening, scaring company, but only when people were actually in the livingroom. The door never moved when we were in other parts of the downstairs, and as I mentioned in a post on the Toronto site some time ago, the movement had stopped when the livingroom wallpaper was removed. I had thought that maybe it was a residual energy left there (a message about having to put the wallpaper up on the hottest day of the year was by the door in pencil, with dates and names, etc...). Anyway, she was surprised to see a tall man standing there watching them, wearing maroon pajamas, with "stringy hair and high cheekbones or sunken cheeks due to illness". She said that he was very pale and looked very unwell. It did not occur to her at first that she was seeing a spirit. She thought someone had wandered in. When she looked over to see what the others thought about this sudden visitor standing there, she realized no one was looking and quickly glanced back. He was not visible by then. This reminded me of when she was very young and had a high fever (spinal damage, so her fevers often spiked to 105F then). She had been crying and then stopped, smiled and babbled away. I had said, "Who are you talking to, sweetheart?" She pointed towards the same spot where she saw the gentleman the other night and said, "That nice man." I thought at the time that she must be hallucinating, but maybe it was him all along. Sent: Oct 29, 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------- She Held A Shilaleigh [Wainwright, Alberta] I was at home, at about 6 AM. I wasn't feeling well, and couldn't get back to sleep. I decided to get out of bed. I took my comforter and headed for the living room. I entered the living room, and plopped down into the chair. I turned on a movie, and fell asleep. At about 7 AM I awoke. I was thirsty, and suddenly cold. I headed to the kitchen to fetch a water bottle. I got one from the cupboard, and went to the washroom to fill it. I had filled the water bottle, and looked up into the mirror of the bathroom. In the doorway to the living room, floated a woman in an old suit. The kind with the frill in the front, and she held a shilaleigh. I couldn't even scream, I was so scared. The entity disappeared, and I returned to my movie, thoroughly shaken. Sent: December, 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Barefoot Apparition In White [Kingston, Ontario] I was driving with a friend a few years ago to Kingston and we decided to take the scenic route along the Thousand Island Parkway. It is a beautiful stretch of highway. We began to come around a curve in the road, when all of a sudden, I saw what looked like a young woman walking along the side of the road wearing a white dress and barefoot. All of a sudden, she disappeared behind the trees, but the trees she disappeared behind were beside a really steep enbankment and anyone who attempted to walk down that way would fall and get hurt for sure but she was nowhere to be found. My friend did not see what I saw, so I thought maybe my imagination was getting the better of me. The only thing was I knew that this kind of thing had happened to me many times before and so it was not that far off from being real. A little farther up the road, my friend's car started to act up so she decided to stop her car and look under the hood. Right across the street from where we pulled over, there was this forest like area with a little clearing, right on the side of the highway. It was kind of an odd spot for this kind of clearing. And then I noticed that there were about four or five old graves in there and it was what looked like a family cemetary on the side of the highway. I was intrigued and decided to go in and look at the graves that were there and see who they belonged to. They were not kept up over the years and were broken and basically looked abandoned. Well, upon entering this small abandoned cemetary, I started to feel extremely nauseous and dizzy. I noticed the graves were indeed those of a family and a couple of them belonged to small children. I decided to investigate this further when I got into Kingston. I found out this gravesite was of an affluent family from Kingston in the 1800's who owned some kind of mill or plant or factory or something. The children who passed away died of influenza as well as the mother. It made me leave wondering if the woman I saw on the highway that day was the mother and if that nauseated feeling I had was kind of a "sympathy pain" I was getting from being in this cemetary. The experience was very odd, but I have not forgotten it since that day. Sent: December 20, 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Old Whitby Psychiatric Hospital [Whitby, Ontario] A few of my friends and I went there in the summer of 2004, we were curious about it. We went into the building called the Children's Ward. We had to crawl in through a basment window. The second we got in I got a terrible vibe from the place. I mean it was really, really creepy. Anyway I noticed that throughout the building there was an area where it was cold or there was a breeze. At one point I swore I heard children laughing. Only me and my friend Sam heard it, Sarah and Tiff didn't hear anything. I really wanted to leave after that, but they insisted we keep looking around. We went into one room and there was whispering and foot steps. We all heard it this time, it was quite terrifying. We all made haste and left after that. On our way out I kept on hearing footsteps following us, and not just one set, like alot of them. Anyway it's 100% haunted by my books, and by lots of other people I know who have gone. Sent: January 6, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------- "Papa Had His Good Suit On" by: Laura [Westville, Nova Scotia] This is a story of what happened to me 8 years ago. I was 17 at the time. When I was younger, I used to do a lot of babysitting. Especially for my aunt and uncle, who have 4 kids. So when they asked me to babysit this particular night in February, I didn't think much of it. Everything was going fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I was in the kitchen talking to a friend of mine on the phone, when I heard my cousin in the living room saying "There's papa!" I hung up the phone and went into the livingroom to see what was going on. It was about 9 pm so it was dark outside, not to mention they lived on a road with maybe 6 houses on it. I looked out the window and didn't see anything. I asked Nick, who was I think around 4 or 5 at the time, where he had seen papa (which is what we called our grandfather). He said he had seen him outside in front of the house on the road. I asked if our grandmother was with him. Nick said no, and that papa had his "good" suit on. I didn't know what he meant. He told me he had on his red tie and his suit that he wore to special occassions. I looked again, but saw nothing. I kinda blew the incident off. Then later that night I got a phone call from one of my relatives saying that my grandfather had died in his sleep. After what had happened earlier, I was understandably freaked out and upset. The funeral was a few days later and sure enough, my grandfather was buried in the suit that Nick had seen him wearing the night he had died. This has definitely made me a believer in the supernatural. She also said that she had heard noises when we ran back upstairs. We both heard the same noises, it was freaky. Also there is a forest behind Hannah's house where we always hear noises out there. Sent: January, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Green Orbs and Angry Poltergeist" by: Kendra [Winnipeg, Manitoba] My sister and her boyfriend were renting a small house in the Elmwood area when they noticed some strange occurrences. It began with hearing strange noises in the living room and bedroom. They had a dog who also picked up on these noises and was in turn, very nervous all the time. One night in particular my sister and her boyfriend were sleeping, he awoke to find himself being chocked and pushed all the way down to the bottom of their water bed. He looked up and saw that the curtain beside the bed was up, stiffly bent at a 90 degree angle. He also saw greenish orbs floating above. My sister never heard or saw anything. On another night my sister was alone as her boyfriend worked occasional nights. She heard groans and, thinking it was the dog, went back to sleep. She realized though, that she had dropped off the dog for surgery earlier that day, so it was not the dog after all. My sisters boyfriend would also notice glasses being moved from one end of the coffee table to the other, he would actually watch the movement. Many other instances of paranormal activity occurred. After awhile, they happened to be cleaning up, they lifted the carpet to see a large hole had been cut away on the carpet below. They also took some wall boards down and found blood spatters. They moved away quickly. I did some research some time later and found that a young woman had been murdered there, her boyfriend had slit her throat, and she lay bleeding to death for 3 days. I should also mention that the electricity was always shorting out and flickering, and my sisters pets all died. Sent: January 27, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Who Turned Off The TV?" by: K.W. [Mississauga, Ontario] One time, this was sometime last year, I was watching tv, and then all of a sudden, the tv just turned off right on it's own. And the flicker was like at the other end of our coffee table. My mother said it was probably just an electrical problem, but I'm not so sure. And also, every now and then, sometimes when my parents aren't home, I can almost swear that a female {sometimes it's a male} voice yelling my name from upstairs. I don't know what it is, but I sometimes think it's either my Grandpa who passed away a few years ago, or my Aunt Cheryle Ann, who also passed away a few years ago. And when I was little, and during the summertime, I would often look up into the clouds and I could almost swear that I saw angels. Weird isn't it? Sent: March 6, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "He Was Right There Examining Us" by: Charlie [northern Ontario] Well this is pretty interesting, but nerving as well. When I was younger, about 14 or so, me and my sister who would've been 8 at the time, moved into a new rental house with our parents. The house was, and may still be owned, by the same Chinese family that rented it to us. It was nicer than any house we had ever lived in. It was huge (not what we had ever had) it had 5 bedrooms 3 baths, a dining room that measured 15'x25' and a rec room in the basement the same size. It had study rooms and extra little rooms everywhere. My father filled one of them with his religious books and materials, as well as stuff for his business. Within a day or two every book and item in there had been covered with mold, totally destroying them. Weird. After a week or so, me and my sister were very unsettled about this place. My parents thought nothing of it. We heard foot steps and doors slamming, loud creaking sounds, and wind type sounds. One day we were down in the rec room and I was incharge while my parents were out. We were watching t.v. All of the sudden this cold blue, yet calm face, of an oriental man (elderly) with one of those "Fu Manchu" mustaches, looked around the door at us both. I became excited and my sister ran to the far corner of the room screaming. I really couldn't move that well. After a second or two, I ran and covered over her. I kept looking over my shoulder and he was right there examining us, kind of looking all over at us but making eye contact with me when I would look at him. Then after a minute, tops, of all this he was gone. So I said "lets run outside and wait for mom and dad", and we did. Fast. Our parents came home and we told them and went inside. My dad said "don't be so stupid, get in the house" and they did nothing. A few days later I had to watch my sister again and we didn't want to be in the house, but we had to listen to my father and stay in the house. He was a strict man. We were watching t.v again, this time with the door to the rec room closed, and we heard thump thump thump really fast then bang! We heard that same pattern a few times and decided to investigate on our way to the front door. The bathroom upstairs was at the end of the hall with three stairs at the other end (where we standing), then the beginning of the dining room. The door handle turned and we heard some little bit of feet dragging and we backed up out of the way of the stairs and some blueish heavy set man with curly short hair jumped down the three stairs (thump thump thump). Then jumped really high and (bang) landed in the entrance of the dining room, looked at me in the eyes and blew in my face this cold cold smell. He then made an excited face, ran towards the dining table, and was gone. We went screaming outside and the house was banging and thumping and the door slammed a couple of times. My sister ran to the neighbors and I was about ten steps behind her. We waited there for my parents, I even thought it was a real person for a while. My dad came over to us as we were yelling at him "we're over here" and he said sorry to the neighbour, brought us home and spanked my sister and yelled at me for embarassing him. That night I slept at the foot of my mother's bed while my sister slept beside her. My father was downstairs watching t.v, he fell asleep on the couch. We all awoke upstairs to my father shouting bad words and death threats very loudly, and was throwing things down stairs at some "chinamen" as he said. He came upstairs and grabbed us and put us in his car as the doors were opening and closing, and slamming. We drove to my uncl's house and the next morning I asked my mom where dad was and she said "he's with you uncle" I thought nothing of it. He went there with my uncle, packed every thing and threw it in a van and truck and we never went back. My mom said that must have been why it was for rent so cheap. Received: March 15, 2005 UPDATE (Received May 27, 2005): by: Melinda I have to reply to one of the stories that was sent. It was from Rebecca, my daughter. The house she is talking about is about 100 years old, one of the oldest homes in White River. Many strange things have occured there. One night after the kids went to bed I was sitting in the living room when I looked up and saw a woman walk out the front door. I froze and did not move for quite some time. When I finally got up to investigate she was gone. Did I mention that the original owners of the house are buried in a small cemetary in the lot next to the property? UPDATE (Received August 21, 2006): by: Laura I know of the Graveyard which she (Melinda) speaks of. As a child I spent countless hours in White River visiting relatives, and I can vouch for Melinda's comments. The Graveyard in question is indeed a spooky place. And I was always told "never to find myself anywhere near the Graveyard after dark". There were remarks made by some of the relatives that perhaps there was a few restless souls that Haunted the Graveyard. It's a very old place, and still strikes an unsettling feeling in me. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "TV Problems And Footsteps" by: Miranda [Red Deer, Alberta] My family consists of 5 people, my husband, my three children (10,7 & 3), and me. We moved here in August of last year and thought we were moving into a nice, safe neighbourhood (we may have been wrong). My 7yr old son had the first paranormal experience, in which he had a dream that a small girl(around his age) was talking to him beside his bed. Thinking this was just a childhood dream or an imaginary friend, my husband and I just ignored this. At Christmas time, my grandparents were here, and my grandfather sleeped in my son's room, he too dreamt about a small girl (same description) talking to him beside the bed. Now it seemed a little strange. Around the beginning of March, my son started to say there were weird things going on in his room -- the t.v.flicking on and off and channels changing. Again, just thinking he's 7 and imaginative, I ignored it. For the first time since we moved here I was alone in the house (everyone else had gone for family visits-I had school). I went into my room (mid-afternoon), and as I was about to fall asleep, I heard what can only be described as children's footsteps running down the hall upstairs and into the living room.(I was half-asleep, so I choose to chalk it up to a half-dream). Not thinking anymore about it, later that same day, I went into my son's room to feed his hampster, and as I got about half way across, the t.v.flickered on, waited for a few minutes and flickered back off.(Ok-now I'm getting a little spooked). I left his room and called a friend.(Who instantly questioned my sanity-Can you blame her?). Anyways-she came over, to see if anything weird was really happening or if I was losing my mind. Well, Thankfully, I have not lost my mind-as soon as she got here, we went downstairs, and the same thing happened, t.v. on, t.v. off, and this time it happened for about 2 minutes consecutivly.(Whew-it's not just me whose spooked now). As soon as the T.v. seemed off for good, she also heard the footsteps upstairs. (She was convinced that we were both crazy). This happened all day, T.v. and footsteps- she called her husband to come and experience this as well (also a non-believer), who left just as shaken as we were. (All of the above happened while he was here as well.) As I sit here, I can hear the footsteps and the T.v. flickering on and off, and am still wondering about my own sanity in staying in this house.(I should be in a hotel or somewhere else by now.) I honestly believe there is a little girl ghost in this house, and if anyone knows how to contact her(or find out about her) I'd appreciate a responce in finding out how to get her to leave us alone. My son isn't allowed to watch t.v.past bedtime, and she won't listen to my pleas to leave the t.v.off. (my husband also thinks I'm losing it by talking to her as though she is real). That's it, that's my story, and really, I'm a healthy, normal woman, who just experienced something quite amazing and almost unexplainable. As we neared the village, we noticed a man walking towards town as well, but on the other side of the road. He was very tall and extremely thin. He had an old black coat with tails on, and pants and a top hat with black and white stripes on them. All of his clothing was dusty and wrinkled, as if he lived in them. We did not see his face, as we were heading the same way he was. We drove past him. As we turned a corner, I finally asked, "Did you see that?" Yes, was the reply from both of them. My brother then turned the car around and we went back to see who it was. In the minutes it took for us to turn around and head back around the corner to where we had seen him, he had disappeared. However, there was nowhere for him to go, except into the woods. In general, I have a bad feeling about this, even thinking about it now gives me a chill. Then from a distance (around 50 feet away) I saw a black shape, the size of a human, but all black, just float into the middle of the sidewalk staring right at me. This is weird cause it was pitch black already, and this black figure was darker. When I saw this, I got a shock in my body. I was scared, I just stared at it for about a minute, hoping it would go away. But it didn't, so I just turned around and walked the other way really fast. I always kept thinking that it reminded me of the grim reaper. Sent: April 17, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Hooded Entities on Texas Road" by: anonymous [Amherstburg, Ontario] Texas Rd is a popular ghost siting spot since the 50's. My son was there and the story he tells is really incredible. Two people "climbed" down from a tree (the tree was not "climb-able" we have pictures of the spot) and landed on the other side of a fence below. They had hoods and blurred faces and walked in a side-step fashion into the graveyard. It's amazing to hear him tell the story. He came home saying it was weird that these two people would be in a tree like that although he was extremely frightened when he saw it, they looked directly at him. Then as he started to tell us the story, he just couldn't describe their faces he said they were blurry but they had strange hoods. I've never heard anything like it. I'm sure he would tell it to you if you wish. They have gone back trying to see the people again but haven't seen them. We searched the web and there is at least another report of "pilgrims" being sighted there, which could explain the strange outfits. Sent: April 26, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Abusive Husband Returns From His Grave" by: anonymous [Sarnia, Ontario] I am relating a true story that happened in 1981 in an old converted church. The owner had changed it into six apartments, three floors, two apartments per floor. This story is true, it happened to me, but I do not wish my name mentioned. After leaving a very abusive husband I took my two year old daughter and moved to the 3rd floor apartment in this old building. There was regular visits from my husband and the police. At the rear of my apartment was a door which led out to a fire escape. The woman in the adjoining apartment also had one. This wonderful woman saved me a few times. She would leave her door unlocked so at any sign of trouble, I could grab my daughter and get to safety in her apartment. When my husband finally realized he would never get me back he committed suicide. After a few months I moved away, wanting to start a new life in a new city, which I did with no regrets. About four months after I moved away, I received a call from my "Angel" neighbour. She was frantic. Another single woman and her three year old daughter had moved into my old apartment. Her daughter would wake her mom up and say that there was a man in her room. Her mother would put her back in bed telling her she was just dreaming. Apparently this continued. First the woman thought it might be the large stuffed animal she had hanging in the corner and removed it. She also got a nightlight for the little girl's room. The child continued to wake her mother saying the man said she was not his little girl and should not be sleeping in her room. One night the mother went out and left her daughter with a babysitter. The sitter was watching TV and got up to go to the kitchen. There sleeping on the hallway floor was the little girl. She put her on the couch to sleep until her mom got home. Not knowing what else to do the mother changed bedrooms with her daughter thinking that would be that! That same night she woke up hearing whispering in her ear and someone shaking her bed. Thinking it was her daughter she sternly told her to go back to her bed. She said all of a sudden she got very cold and her hair stood up at the back of her neck. She was punched in the stomach from un unseen fist. She got up and grabbed her daughter, left the apartment and stayed with her boyfriend for the night. The next day, she went to her next door neighbour and asked if there had been any violence in her apartment. My friend told her about me and the circumstances surrounding my life. She then called me long distance to relate this story that was told to her by the woman living in my old apartment. I was terrified! I contacted a psychic I had known for years through my father. He told me that it was my husband looking for me and especially his child. The only way to rid this spirit was to go back with my daughter and stay in the apartment. This is exactly what I did. I waited until around ten pm, staying next door at my friend's until that time. My sister came with me. I took my sleeping daughter and placed her on the bed. We lit a white candle and said a few prayers. Then I spoke to my husband in a calm voice, telling him that his daughter was safe and that we no longer lived there. I asked that he "go to the light" where love was and to never come back and frighten this family again. I told him I would always look after his daughter and he could believe she would be safe. A part of me was terrified that he would appear or I would be punched. The more I spoke softly to him, the calmer I became. I went back to my city the next day. Nothing more happened in that apartment to the mom and her little girl. Nor did my husband follow me. Sent: April 30, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Shadow Figure Follows Family" by: Louise [Toronto, Ontario] This happened just a couple of years agao. I started noticing shadows from the corner of my eye. I'd been living in my apartment for two years when this started. THis very large, man shaped shadow would hang out in front of my bedroom door while I was sitting on the couch, watching tv. Then I started noticing the shiny dimes on the floor. In the space of a few months I found at least a dozen. One night, as I was preparing for bed, I walked towards the bathroom, in the dark, intending to have my last bathroom break for the night without bothering to turn on the light, as was my habit. As I passed the bedroom door, I felt a hand first cup and then lightly pinch my rear end. I was totally freaked out, of course, shrieked and ran to my son's bedroom to tell him what had happened. He was quietly lying in bed watching his own tv so it couldn't have been him. He got up and walked with me towards the bathroom and flipped on the lights. My hairdryer, which I kept plugged in all the time, had slipped off the top of the toilet tank and into the bowl. It wasn't quite in the water and the thought of what could have happened had I sat down in the dark made me wonder, did my mysterious visitor try to warn me of the danger? After that, I would often see his shadow and once or twice he tried to get closer to me but it scared me and I told him "look, you are freaking me out so keep your distance. And he did! One night, my son was watching a movie in his room and then decided to join me in the living room. He turned off the tv, left the room and then suddenly we heard the tv come back on. My son went back and turned it off, no sooner was he in the living room that it went on again. This went on a few times until my son addressed our visitor. "hey, I've seen this movie before, the bad guy gets shot by the good cop ok? so stop turning the tv on. The tv stayed off. My son and I often tried to puzzle out who our visitor was. He just didn't feel familiar but neither did he feel threatening. I moved and thought we'd left him behind until the door chimes of my new house started going off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. The really weird thing was that the bell chimed a different tune than the normal four notes it ususally chimed. We started joking how our visitor had finally found us and was asking to be let in. One night, when the chimes went off at 3 am, I simply said, "I'm sorry but I don't want to let you in here." They never chimed again. I've never seen him again and often wonder who he was. Sent: May 27, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Shadow Figure Strikes Again" by: Scorpio [Scarborough, Ontario] In May of 2005 at about 5:30 p.m. I was lying on my bed (my bedroom is upstairs) trying to get rid of a headache. I had slept for about half an hour and woke up feeling a lot better. I sat up at the edge of my bed and had been wide awake for a good 5 minutes (trying to decide what to do about dinner, etc). From my vantage point on the bed I can look downstairs into the hallway that leads to my kitchen. While sitting there I saw the figure of what appeared to be a man walk into the kitchen and so I just assumed that it was my son home from work. I did not see any clear features, just the dark silhouette of a person - very shadow-like but still more 'solid' than just a shadow. It is always a bit dark in that hallway, so it didn't seem unusual that the features weren't visible, also I was upstairs looking downwards from about 15 feet away. I waited a minute or two but didn't hear noise or movement from downstairs so I got up and called over the stair railing to my son. My daughter, who was upstairs all this time, answered me from her room saying that he wasn't home from work yet. (He didn't arrive home for another half hour after this incident.) I wasn't alarmed, just kind of amazed at what I had seen. I was fairly sure no one had entered the house and I went downstairs just to make sure everything was okay. I didn't feel particularly frightened or threatened -maybe because at the time that I saw it, it appeared not to notice me but rather just calmly walked into the kitchen and disappeared from my view. Whatever it was, it fit the description of what I've read about some types of shadow people. A little while after that I got a bit 'creeped out' when it dawned on me what it could have been! I was renting at the time. It is very old. There were small things that happened like touching us (taps likes a child) and whispering. It was a place that I called my home, I was fine with it. Until one night, I was sleeping and I had heard my youngest crying. She was in a crib. I was thinking to myself "she is okay" and that she will go back to sleep. I laid there listening to her. I was somewhat awake and sleepy. I then had this voice in my head that spoke "Are you going to check?" I am really not sure if they said "her". Well I felt really angry. I talked back, stating that I was not. She would go back to sleep. And then, the angry thing gave me a blast of a high earpiercing ring in my head and ears. I think I grabbed my ears and wondered things. Stop it. What is this. It happened so fast and intense. Then with it like a wind that went right through me I could feel the thing go through me as my whole head had been in a strong wind. The hair on my head just raised and blew up. I was lying down. This was anger? All this happened very fast. I shouted. "LEAVE ME ALONE!" I came too and looked around and nothing, I was lying there with my arms criss cross against my chest. Hands had been fist closed and I just laid there. I then woke up my husband and asked him to check on the baby. She was fine. She was back to sleep. After that I did not want to get up. While he was up I went to the bathroom and left it on. To be communicating like that is very unknown to me. (Through thoughts). Sent: July 27, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Girl With No Legs" by: Erica [Winnipeg, Manitoba] I moved into a town house in the north end in January of 2000. It only took 2 weeks of living here before I began to experience some odd things. The first one I remember was hearing my dryer door slam. I was quite freaked out. Then a few days later I was folding laundry (by the dryer) and I felt something rub on my leg. I ran down my stairs and never folded laundry in that area again. I had a lot of problems with my lights turning on and off by themselves. Sometimes I couldn't even turn on a light, it just wouldn't turn on. But when I went to change the light bulb it would suddenly start working. I heard my cupboard doors open and close. I had many people say that when they went to my bathroom my closet door would be closed, and when they would come out of the bathroom it would be open. A lot of people felt a presence while being in my home. I no longer reside there, but I did stay there for almost 5 years. I moved out 4 months ago when things got bad. I saw what seemed to be a ball of smoke forming in my living room, it only appeared for about 5 seconds then it was gone. I began to hear a lot of things being moved around in my daughter's room when she wasn't home. I heard a glass smash, when I went upstairs to investigate I found a broken glass shattered on my hallway floor. The thing that scared me the most was my daughter running to me with the most frightened look on her face saying that a mean girl was sitting on my chair and she was scared of her. She said the girl had no legs so she couldn't say how old she was. I moved away shortly after. I was doing laundry in the basement when I saw my young 3 year old daughter come down the stairs and run right by me. There is only one room in the basement, besides the laundry room, and that is where Nicole had entered which was our Master Bedroom. I then entered my room where she had gone and I noticed she was not there. I know for a fact she did not come out as I was right beside the door way. I walked upstairs where my husband and 12 year old daughter was and asked them if they saw Nicole run by and both said she was fast asleep in her bedroom. I glanced in on her and there she was fast asleep in her bed. Till this day I am not sure what I saw and what really happened and this was only the beginning of what was to come next. Upon entering, there was an immediate feeling of gloom and depression to all who entered. Several people died there while I was growing up. My mom one night awoke to go to the bathroom that was installed by my dad in the basement. When she went to turn on the light, she saw my dad's father at the bottom of the stairs. At this time he was gravely ill in the hospital. At that hour she saw him, he had died in the hospital. I used to hear audible voices. and always had a feeling of being watched. In the basement apartment, the tv went off without no one being near the remote. And the dead light bulb in the bathroom came back on (it was a dead one when we moved in). Upstairs apartment, a picture that was sitting on our tv fell forward as if it were pushed and fell to the floor. No one was near the tv at this time. We feel as though something is here but that it's not harmful. Sent: October 26, 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Basement" by: M. [Edmonton, Alberta] When I was young (about 7-10), my family and a bunch of our family friends would have a party a couple times a year at this one house. The people who held the parties had a son who was about 16 at the time, and who was friends with my brother who was a year younger than him. Another family who always came had two sons, one the same age as my brothers and one about my age. Well anyways, everytime there was one of these parties all of us kids would just go and hang out in the basement. In the basement there was a shower where supposedly a previous owner died in from a heart attack. Everytime we were over there something would break, maybe a glass or, a picture frame or vase etc.. Sure it could have been just a coincidence but hey it was every single time, and this was going on a couple times a year for a long time. Also the TV that we would watch would just turn off at random times, while the controller laid untouched on a table away from everyone. When we tryed to turn it back on (either with the remote or by pushing the button) it would stay off, and we would wait like a minute or two and than it would turn back on. Than after this if it didnt just go back to normal, the tv would just randomly change channels, and when we tried to change it back with the remote the remote wouldn't work. This whole routine with the TV would happen often, although maybe not every time. Well that didn't really freak us out too bad, we just sort of shrugged it off after things happened. But the one thing that freaked us out (especially me) the most was one night while we were watching a movie in the dark, all of a sudden there was a loud shattering of glass noise. We turned on the lights to find a glass on the floor shattered. The creepy thing is that, the glass was sitting in the middle of a table far from legs reach of any of us in the basement so none of us could have knocked it off. Also the table was fairly low to the ground, and the basement was carpeted, so i can't see how the glass could have shattered by falling off the table (despite the fact that it was in the middle and the table was far from any of us reaching it). Well after that happened i didn't go there too much as I was quite young and easily scared, and eventually i just stopped going too these parties as I got older. Sent: January 27, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "He Doesn't Like Dogs" by: Heather [St. Pauls, Ontario] This is actually a story of two different occurances. When I was about 2 years old we moved in a house in St.Pauls, close to Stratford. I was sitting in a room and my mom came in and asked what I was looking at (I was looking at a chair in the corner of the room) I told her "the man in the corner" and she looked and me and said "what man?" and I just said the same thing again! It scared my mom cause she didn't see anything there. My next story is about my mom. One night when she was laying in bed she heard slamming of doors downstairs and then someone running up the stairs, but when they got to where the room was the noise stopped and she didn't see anyone. It really scared her because right then she thought it was a ghost considering our house was over 100 years old when we bought it! We were talking to my cousin about it and she was saying she talks to ghosts and one day when she was over for a family gathering and it was all over she let the ghost that lived in our house come along for the ride and she talked with him the whole way home. He had told her that he was mad when we moved in because we had a dog and he didn't like dogs. Later on I was told he moved into the garage to get away from the dog. Since then we have had diferent things happen cold spot and creacking and my cat and dog always bark or meow or hiss at things that aren't there. We would really like to find more history on our house and see if anything interesting happened there. Sent: February 10, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "At The Corner of Her Bed" by: Rachel [Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario] The experience happened to my sister, and I am going to relate to you what she told me. She was 10 at the time, and I was 13. We were visiting my mom's aunt and uncle, who had a farmhouse in old mennonite country. When we arrived there, we were really creeped out, because they had headstones lining the border of their front lawn, which were eerily illuminated by our headlights as we arrived there at night. The next day (in broad daylight, of course) my sister and I examined the headstones. They were from the 19th century, many for children who had died young. It was kind of disturbing. When we asked my mom's aunt about the tombstones, she explained they had moved them and the cemetery was in the front yard. Ew. Our second night in their home, my sister and I were moved to the old master bedroom where we slept that night. When I awoke in the morning, my sister was a little upset. She told me that she had awakened in the middle of the night on her back (she never sleeps on her back) with her toes pointed toward an old rocking chair in the corner. She looked straignt ahead of her where at the corner of the bed, a woman in 19th century dress was staring at her. She immediately pulled the covers over her head and tried everything to wake me up, including shaking and pinching me. I am a light sleeper, so it's really funny that I did not wake up. She swears (and she is not the kind of person that has an overactive imagination) that this happened. Practically sitting on a cemetery, I'm not surprised we saw something. With children having died there, maybe it was a mother who could not rest because of her angst over her lost children. Who knows. Interesting to speculate why she appeared to my sister. Sent: February 10, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Under The Bed" by: Hildegardt [Toronto, Ontario] The first room I rented after immigrating to Canada from Germany. I forgot the address, but it was in the vicinity of St.Clair and Keele and a bit east from there. After living for a very short time in this room, I came home one night really tired. Just as I went to bed, the moment I turned off the light, I heard all the books and magazines (that were on top of a small bookshelf) falling over and sliding down onto the floor. The sound could not have been mistaken for anything else. Lying in bed in the darkness, the following thoughts went through my mind; “should I get up to pick up everything and straighten out the bookshelf now, or should I do it in the morning before going to work.” As tired as I was, I decided to do it now, because in the mornings I was always in a hurry to get out, to be at work on time. As I turned on the light and looked at the bookshelf, I could hardly believe my eyes. There was not one book or magazine out of place. I pondered what I could have heard. Finally I put it down to any strange noise that I misinterpreted. Wanting to go to sleep, I turned off the light again. All of a sudden there was a noise as if someone jumped from the window down right in front of my bed. My heart almost stopped. I knew the window was locked. I jumped---pulled the chain on the light which was mounted on the wall above the headboard. Again, everything appeared normal. My heart was still racing. I lied there for a while, before I turned the light off again. Then I heard the scariest sound of all. It sounded as if someone shuffled under my bed from one side to the other. I was laying there frozen. Afraid to move and afraid to breathe my, heart almost jumping out of my throat. I realized that I had to take a breath, as I did I jumped, pulled the chain on the light. Again--- no more noise. Now I wondered if there was really somebody under my bed. It took awhile to built up my courage to get out of my bed and check underneath. There was nothing. I decided to check every corner of my room, the closet, the shelves etc. after establishing the fact that there were absolutely no physical signs of any kind which I could connect with the sounds, I became very curious . I went to bed that night with the lights left ON. Now I started experimenting. I was determined to find out what all this was about. I found out that whenever the light was off and the room was in darkness, the sound would appear. With the lights on, there was silence. I felt that I wanted to talk with someone about these occurrences, but being afraid that they might think I had gone mad, I kept quiet. I hung in for two more weeks, when I notices a very uneasy feeling. Finally I talked with one of my co-workers (Maria) about it. Asking her, please don’t laugh or tell me that I am crazy, for what I am about to tell you. She promised and kept her promise, but she was extremely shocked as she listened. She said that something very bad must have happened in that room, and that some of those spirits could be very dangerous. I didn’t really want to believe it, but she made me promise that I would do what she suggested to find out if they were dangerous spirits or not. She went to her church in her lunch hour to get a small bottle of Holy Water. Instructing me to sprinkle the Holy Water into the three areas where the noises came from---turn the lights off ---and go to bed. She said I there would be silence in the dark, the spirits would be evil and were fleeing from the Holy Water, and I should be moving out of that room as fast as possible. Which I did. Anyways me and my sister really wanted to go with him to work to see if we could see or hear anything. So one night our parents let us go. While I was upstairs in the store by myself I was just sitting on a chair surfing the web when I had a weird feeling someone was watching me and I felt a cold breeze. I got really scared so I decided to go see my brother and sister downstairs. As I was about to walk down the stairs a little girl called my name so I turned around but nobody was there. I thought it was my sister playing a joke on me so I decided to play along. She called me again saying "Britney come find me" so I said "Quit playing around this is creepy". But nobody answered me. Than I was gonna start walking again then the same voice said "Britney let's play". I got really creeped out so I ran downstairs really fast. When I got to the bottom of the stairs the lights flickered then I ran to my brother and told him what had happened. And I told him I wanted to go home so he called our parents to come pick us up. Ever since that night I believe in ghosts and I never wonna go to a haunted place again. And yeah the people still hear and see things there. During this search we visited a house near the hospital in Brampton. On entering none of the lights worked downstairs. As we moved through the house we climbed the stairs to the second level. On looking back to the bottom of the stairs I noticed a grey mist which floated across the bottom of the stairs and through the wall. I did not say anything at the time. The real estate agent we were with was very careful about leaving lights off. Upon leaving the driveway the outside light was on. She assures us the switch was off when she left. Later I mentioned to my wife that I thought the property was haunted and she immediately said "I know". As she was walking through the hallway at the bottom of the stairs she felt a brush on her arm as if someone had touched her. Needless to say we did not buy the house. This was two years ago and we noticed the other day the house had just been sold (or resold). So, in the afternoon, my mom would send me to my room, and told me I had to be quite so I didn't wake up my little brother. I usually feel asleep within five minutes. I had a hope chest across the room from my bed and I could easily see it when I was laying down. I woke up from my nap one day to see a man sitting on my hope chest looking at me. All I really remember now was his blonde hair, the same colour mine was, and bright blue eyes. I wasn't scared, some how I knew he wouldn't hurt me. When he realized I was awake, he smiled, and I fell back asleep. Later that day, I told my mom about seeing him, and she asked me what he looked like. I told her, and she went to her bedroom, and got a picture. She asked me if the man in the picture was the one I saw, and it was. Story has it that many years ago a mother lived in this house with her two sons who went off to fight in the war. Every day the mother would look out her window waiting for them to come home, but they never came. The sons actually died in the war, however she refused to believe this and continued to constantly gaze out of the windows of the house. When the lady died, the windows mysteriously turned black and have been ever since. Even if they are replaced, they will soon after turn black, but no one knows why. It is true this house does exist. The story I just mentioned is the one I have often heard, but I have once heard someone say a person committed suicide a long time ago in it. Those are the two different stories I have heard. It's really interesting though. I'd recommend taking a look at it if you're ever in the city. I wish I knew more information regarding the background of this strange house. Then again, I suppose some things are best undisturbed. Sent: May 6, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Guardian Angels" by: Anthony [Bedford, Nova Scotia] Well I have had a number of cases of different people watching me during the course of my evenings. I have felt spirits for the last four years (starting when I was 14). In my house it always felt like I was being watched. No matter where I went. Especially at night in the evenings between 12am - 5am. I invented my girlfriend over for the night and she told me that she felt that someone was in the room with us - but no one was there. I was a little freaked at that point. So I asked her what she meant. And she told me my grandfather was in the corner. So I got out my camera because I thought she was bluffing. So I took a picture of the corner and sure enough I got a picture of an orb in a chair. I zoomed in on the orb, and what did I see my grandfathers face. She has also told me about my grandmother and two of my cats. I never believed in ghosts - until that moment! Now I'm scared but hooked. I miss them very much. And very glad they choose to be me and my mom's guardian Angel when we need them... May they Rest in Peace. The cottage has since been torn down. Anyway, the cottage was haunted by two children and a dog. When mom and I would sit down to watch TV the kids would sit beside mom, and the dog would lay at my feet. They just became part of our family. We didn't set out dinner plates or anything like that, but we just let them be. One time after christmas, we had the lights on on our tree while we had a snack and watched our show. Mom told me to turn off the lights on the tree, suddenly the tinsel on the tree moved on one side. This is just one sample of our ghost children. My mom has seen also a man walking down our lane and disappear, he walked with his head down. When he looked up and saw her, he vanished. Even to this day, ghost come to my mom. The children did not follow us when we moved, but I swear sometimes I can feel the dog still with me. Sent: August 23, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Touched On the Shoulder" by: MaryAnn [Lowbanks, Ontario] Let me start by saying that I live in a very old farm house. There is a room upstairs that just felt "wrong" -- like you just shouldn't go in there. The pipe from the woodstove goes right up through that room, but it was always very cold. A friend of mine told me that a windcharm will discourage anything supernatural from staying in the room, so I hung a small windchime in the corner. It took a few days, but the room is now very warm and feels like a "normal" room. Not too long after this, my Mother and I were in the living room, when we heard LOUD banging from the basement! I thought it was my husband in the basement, hammering on the pipes for some odd reason, but then he came out of the bathroom! No one was in the basement to bang on anything. *spooky* There have been other odd occurences here, babies crying, touches on people's shoulders, hearing our names called when we are alone in the house, lights flipping etc. A few months ago, we found out that the son of the man who built this house died between the house and the barn, so I figure it's old Mr. Firth saying hello! Sent: September 28, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Grandma Visits" by: Bobbi-Sue [Winnipeg, Manitoba] A few months ago my grandma died. On the night she died I saw, at about 1:30, a light like a car go by in my mom's room! I thought it was a car at first, but there were only bushes behind the house. The next day we found out that she had died that night around 1:00 or 1:30am, so I believe it was her vistiting me. About a mounth later I was almost asleep when I could have sworn it was her clearing her throat! I then could feel something on my foot. It scared me a little, but it was all good. During the summer me, my friend, cousin and brother were having a sleep over. My friend went into the hallway to look at her reflection in the mirror, nothing out of the ordinary really. My cousin, my brother, and I saw her then go into the bathroom, which is right across the kitchen. The only problem was a few seconds later she came from the hallway and into the kitchen. I jolted in my chair! She asked what was wrong and I asked if anyone else saw her go into the bathroom. My cousin and brother both said yes, and she said she saw someone go into the bathroom too! My friend was very nervous because apparently if you see a spirit/ghost that looks like you or a friend, the person is going to die soon after. My friend, cousin, brother, and I were a little shocked about that. Well I am glad to say my friend is still alive and kicking (but still catches colds every now and again). Sent: October 6, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Cat Comes Back" by: Gladys [Niagara Falls, Ontario] One evening after my husband had been out, he came home to find a black cat in our kitchen which had come in through the open door earlier that evening, unnoticed by myself. We decided to keep her, she was starving, obviously a stray. We named her "Peek-A-Boo". Approximately one month later we realized Peek-A-Boo was pregnant and soon gave birth to three tiny black kittens. We had to force her to stay with them and take care of her kittens. As being a stray all she wanted to do was leave the house instead of being a tending mother to her babies. One day about two weeks after the kittens were born, I walked in on her attempting to chew the head off of one. Horrified, I called the SPCA in our area and took Peek-A-Boo there where they decided to put her down, saying she would not likely be adopted out due to her nature. It was the following spring that my husband and I were re-tiling our kitchen floor, getting ready to sell our house, that I first felt that Peek-A-Boo was a ghostly presence in our home. I was sitting on the kitchen floor about to install another tile when I felt a brushing against my left hip. I looked to see if it was Screech, one of Peek-A-Boo's kittens we kept. There was nothing around me. Curious I got up and looked for Screech, finding him curled up asleep on my bed. It puzzled me, I told my husband about it and we shrugged it off. Three days later as I was in my kitchen doing dishes, I felt a brushing at my ankles as if a cat was doing a figure 8 around my feet. I looked down expecting to see Screech, and again nothing. This creeped me out severely this time as I knew I was not imagining the soft brush of cat's fur. Once again searching for Screech I found him laying in front of the fireplace. I am convinced Peek-A-Boo was making contact of some kind with me, never feeling hostile, always a loving touch, I now feel easier with having to had to put Peek-A-Boo down. This is my ghost story, although involving an animal, a true story none the less. Thank you for letting me share. The dogs would not go upstairs alone and you could feel someone watching you as you were showering. I stayed for only four months. Sent: October 11, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Whitby Psychiatric Hospital" by: Dan [Whitby, Ontario] I was a guard at Whitby Psychiatric Hospital in 1988 to 1989. One night I got a call that a doctor's dog was going crazy when the elevator went by in Building 30. Her office was located on the second floor. I went in, saw that the elevator was on the 3rd floor, called it and went to the 2nd floor. The doctor explained that her dog normally ignores the elevator (it had a habit of starting up on its own and travelling the floors) but that night was an exception. After I asked to borrow the dog, we went up to the 3rd floor. I was about half way around the floor when the dog stopped at a door. The dog started sniffing and I said "What do you hear Max?" The dog looked at me and turning back at the door started pawing it. I got my keys, put the key in the lock and all I had to do was turn the key and the door was open. I felt a sudden wave of terror go through me and my hand would not obey the signal from my brain to open the door. I pulled the key out and tugging on the dog's leash said "Let's go Max!" I had to get out of there really fast! The dog wouldn't leave that door and I had to drag him away with all my strength. (Max was a medium sized dog). After the dog was about ten feet from the door, he finally came with me. I headed back to the doctor's office, handed the dog over, said "Found nothing, gotta go now!" and headed out of that building as quickly as I could. I started feeling like a coward and returned. The doctor had left for the night although she appeared to be ready to work through the night and I left. The next day, I retraced my steps and found the drag marks on the floor. I opened the door, looked inside and found only undisturbed dust. I heard later that years previously, a patient had murdered a nurse on the third floor and then committed suicide. He has been known to scream at the guards telling them to get out of his building. My friend came over to watch movies and have a sleepover, we stayed up until about 2am (like teen girls do) but as we shut off the light we heard a knock. We didn't think much of it, besides my grandfather likes to try to scare us if we're being too noisy. So I got up and looked into my grandparents room but they were both asleep. So I didn't say anything, just brushed it off and went to bed. Not long after I layed my head down I heard a little girl's voice say "I don't like it here anymore, I wanna go home". I sat up instantly and got cold chills. My friend asked "did you hear that?" I said "I think so, you mean I wasn't dreaming?" my friend said " No I don't think so, it sounded like a little girl". At this point my heart was pounding. So at the same time my friend and I repeated the words exactly. We still didn't want to believe so we got up and searched inside and outside for a little girl, but saw nothing. So we just went to bed and tried not to think of it. I had been there about a year when strange things started happening. During the evening shift there are only two of us working in the maintenance department. During breaks I would catch someone entering the shop out of the corner of my eye. The person would walk into a room that we make our hydraulic hoses in. When I would go to see who it was, there was nobody there. I told my partner about it, and he said that he sees him all the time. Apparently this man had fallen to his death 15 years earlier, and the room used to be the lunch room. He was wearing a red hard hat, which he told me was the color that used to be assigned to the maintenance department. One night I had to make a hydraulic hose, and the lights had not worked for 6 months or so, and I had to use a flashlight to see what I was doing. I cursed because it was difficult to hold the light. Suddenly the light came on. I froze and said thank you. After I left, the lights went off and stayed off. I still see him every night repeating the same pattern. Sent: November 3, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Harrassed by the Old Hag" by: Joe [Victoria, B.C] For five years I lived in a haunted house in Victoria. I would like to share with you a few of my stories. It started out very small things would go missing and weeks later would return to the same place were they disappeared from. This not only happened to me but to my mother. But as time went on things got worse. Now I like to share with you three of the most terrifying nights of my life. My bedroom was located in the basement, nothing ever happened upstairs only in the basement. One night I was laying in my room getting ready for bed. It was me and my two dogs, I still can feel how cold it got in my room that night, I couldn't see anything but I knew something was standing right over me. I was so scared that I couldn't even scream for help. The other thing that freaked me out was that the dogs were shaking. While this was happening my brother who was in the other room came in, he too was shaking with fear. We made our way upstairs and slept on the couch that night. Not too long after this happened I had a friend over, it was around 4pm, we were in my room listening to music when he said to me that he felt as though something was watching us. I had never told any of my friends that I thought the house was haunted before this. I also could feel something standing in the doorway of my room. On my wall my mother had hung roseries and some crosses. Without warning one of the roseries had begun to swing back and forth on the wall, my friend seen this and bolted from the house. While leaving he ran my mother over. He was my friend for 15 yrs but he refused to come inside that house again. One night I left my job and started to walk home. I heard someone calling my name, I turned around and at the end of the road there was this old lady dressed in really old clothes and she was mad because I wouldn't come and see her. I ran home but no matter how fast I ran she was still always a block behind me. I got home and told my parents but I don't think they really believed me. Later that night I woke up and before I knew it my body was pinned to the bed. Someone was sitting on me holding my arms over my head. I tried everything to move but couldn't, then it was gone. While this was going on at first I thought my brother was playing a joke on me. But I was a 3 yr bodybuilder at the time and when I couldn't move what was holding me down I knew I was in trouble. I was 16 when this happened and I moved out as soon as I could. To this day my mother and youngest brother still live in the house. They have had their church friends over to bless the house, but it is still haunted -- not to the degree it was when I was there, but the ghost still let them know that they're here. Thank you for taking the time to read some of the things that I endured while growing up in Victoria. Then when they went to the store I was in my room alone and I put the converter down on the flat table and I get up and the t.v turns off, then I stoped I'm like okay? what was that...then it turns back on...out of no where! That same night I plugged in my phone to charge and it was sitting there for about an hour, and I was watching t.v...no one was even near it, and its like the phone almost got thrown off...well not thrown but it didnt just drop its like some one pushed it off lightly. Ever since that some weird things have been happening; like lights flickering, hearing bumps upstairs, and we have things that haven't worked for years turning on out of no where! When I got down I looked at the time, it was 12:45am and it was really cold. Anyway I filled my glass with water then turned around. There was a man with an old musket in his hands pointing it in between my eyes. I thought for sure I was about to die. I sceamed and my dog came running in. The man looked around and he ran away when he saw my dog. But the wierd part was that he disappeared as soon as his foot hit the rug in the family room. The next morning I was looking over my shoulder for the whole day. Sent: November 30, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Ghost of James" by: Kenneth [Smiths Falls, Ontario] Well it’s not much of a story as it's me recounting some eerie things that sparked my interest in ghost research in the first place. We lived in a house that was close to 100 years old, it was a nice early 20th century home with big rooms and a nice hard wood floor. The house itself was built in 1905 and it had a fire sometime in the 30's or 40's which took out the back wall of the house as well as a chimney. That was just to place you at the scene. When I was young there were some very strange things that happened in this house. There were numerous occasions where we would all be sitting downstairs in the living room of the house and we could hear heavy boot steps going from one end of the house to the other. They were definably boot steps. This was not an old house settling. I would know those sounds anywhere. This was distinct foot steps going from one end of the house to the other. They were really frequent at times especially at night. Being the rational person I am I have tried to rule out the possibility of a ghost in my house but it always creeps back. One night my brother awoke to seeing a Hand crawling up the wall with a reddish tinge. My dad ran in and turned on the lights and no more hand. Now I was not a direct witness to this at all I was not even 2 years old then. I don’t know how to explain this one at all. There are many possibilities. Last but not least, James saved my life in a way. I was very inebriated after a party at my house and all was done and over. I was alone in my room there was no-one else in the house as they had all left for the night. It was about 3 AM and I was definitely ready to crash. As I did, I had not been asleep for ten minutes when I was jerked awake by a cold force. And I heard MY NAME called three times. As I was really freaked out I was still inebriated and I rolled over. The point is that I was praying to the bucket all night long after that. If I had not have rolled over I would have choked on my own stupidity for sure as I was lying on my back. Strangely enough that is the only thing I can remember from that night. Any who to conclude with my all too common account I did get some closure and that is also how I put it all together. I came Home from College with my Wife and our son. I had asked my mother if she had heard the “footsteps” lately as a joke. She quickly replied that James was still around in the house and keeping an eye on things. I asked her how she knew his name and she mentioned that in a particular part of the home she would always get images flashing in her head of a WW2 soldier. One time she just got a name, so she looked it up and sure enough the parents of James were the first owners of the house. I asked the living family members about a soldier and they verified that he had been shot in the war. Had he come back home to the place he loved. I will never know but its how I became interested in ghosts and paranormal activities. Received: December 14, 2006 UPDATE: by: Kenneth Its not much of a story per say more just to follow up on the story I wrote in 2006 about "James". I found out his actual name is Norman D. Tysick. He was a private in WW2 and died at the age of 26 somewhere in the Italian campaign. Dug up some old census records and voting records. According to his relatives he had fought with his parents before leaving for the War. Just to correct some of my mistakes. This information is actual government recorded fas as there were only 2 casualties with the last name Tysick in WW2 and none in WW1. For all those people out there. A ghost can be a scary experience, but now that I know who mine was I feel more respect for him than FEAR. Thank you Ken Received: November 2, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Great Uncle Haunts the Cottage" by: Kevin [Port Perry, Ontario] In January of 1978 I asked my future wife to come to the family cottage for the weekend. The cottage was closed up for the winter so we stayed in the front half of it for warmth. At about 3 am the power went off with a loud crack and I got up to reset the breaker. When I came back to bed my future wife asked who was sitting in the chair by the window. I looked and saw nothing but the empty chair, she was however quite convinced of someone in the chair until I went over and sat in it. Next morning she describe this person to me in great detail, and when we returned home I showed her a family picture of my family at Christmas with over 20 relatives in the picture, she picked out my great uncle and said that was the man who was in the chair. He had owned the cottage prior to his death 5 years before. Sent: December 26, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Apparition" by: Taylor [Hearst, Ontario] For as long as I can remember, I have always experienced strange occurrences that surrounded my mother and grandmother’s home. (I now live on my own elsewhere). My very first experience happened when I was about 13 or 14 yrs old. While waking from sleep one night, I turned to look at my bedroom doorway to see an extremely tall guy standing there staring at me. He was thin, with very long black hair that seemed to reach his lower back. His face had a look of sadness, which also was very pale. Now for some reason, I wasn’t scared at this sight, but upon waking, I couldn’t control the tremors my body felt as I realized what I had just seen during the night. After that incident, I could no longer enter my own bedroom without feeling such negative energy. It felt as though someone was choking me and that I had a ball in my throat from feeling so sad. As soon as I would enter the room, I would immediately start bawling for no apparent reason, and even if I didn’t want to, I still would. I had no control over the tears that rolled down my cheeks. For about a week this went on, until my grandmother called in someone to bless the whole house with more concentration within my room. This stopped the fear of entering my bedroom and the uncontrollable crying, but it had never felt the same afterwards, hence my decision to make a bedroom for myself downstairs in the basement. After moving downstairs, there seemed to be more occurrences but none that had instilled as much fear as the incident mentioned above. Another incident involves a week’s full of strange dreams and happenings prior to a family tragedy. It all started with a dream that I had where I was standing on this cliff with my little nephew and his parents. My nephew fell over this cliff and while everyone was screaming and crying they were unable to help, as they seemed to be frozen. I jumped over the edge and was able to grab a hold of my nephew midair. While crashing to the ground, I had broken both of my legs but was still able to keep my little nephew safe. Now this is where it starts to get strange, both my nephew (who happened to be spending the night) and I woke up at the very same moment, screaming and crying. I immediately rushed upstairs to see if he was okay, only to realize that, he too, had awoken from a nightmare. The next morning, I was about to cook some eggs when I had dropped one to the ground, at the very moment of impact, my little nephew fell from the bed, hitting the floor just as the egg smashed open on the floor. That night as I was laying in bed, waiting for my fiancé to come and join me, I noticed that the mattress I was laying on started to sink in, as though someone were sitting there right next to me. I immediately and repeatedly screamed and called out for my fiancé who was in the bathroom next to the bedroom (which had the door wide open) but for some reason he did not hear me. It was my brother who came rushing to me after hearing my calls from upstairs. It was after seeing my brother running towards the bedroom that my fiancé realized something was wrong. That night, I felt something was so wrong. I could not go to sleep. The next morning is when everything seemed to come into place. I had just learned that a couple of relatives from the family had their apartment burned down. Living on the third floor, the father had jumped from the window to save his newborn son’s life, breaking two of his legs in the process. The late visitor that I had sitting on my bed was his father who passed away during the fire. I went upstairs (I slept downstairs) to see what was going on and to see who was at the door. My two sisters and my mom were up there too. The knocking was still going and I was getting a little freaked out (I was 8) then the knocking stoped, then started again. This time it came from the inside of the walls! We were all terrified. After the knocking stoped my mom called my brother-in-law to go around the house, just in case it was just a bunch of stupid kids trying to freak us out. He went around and there was no one there, not even a footprint in the fresh snow! After he went home, we all went back to bed. After about an hour the knocking started again,it was so loud it shook walls. I thought it would wake up my little brother, who was at that time 3 years old, but it didn't. The knocking sounded like someone was trying to get out of the walls. The knocking lasted the rest of the night. It got louder then quieter, then it just stopped like it was tired. The next morning my sister was taking a shower, (and had glass doors for the shower),as she was showering a hand print just showed up on the inside of the glass door, that means the ghost was in the shower with her. After that day the knocking never came again. We still live in that house to this day. Once in a while weird stuff happens but nothing really bad. It was a winter afternoon here and it was snowing. My husband and I were sitting watching t.v. and the doorbell rang. I got up to answer and nobody was there. We just sat back down and stated watching t.v. again and we heard some children playing outside, then the doorbell rang again so we thought that they were just playing with us so I got up to put a stop to it and there was no one there again. I looked down and there was no foot prints leading to the door or anywhere in the drive. My husband got up to look outside and there was to traces of kids even playing out front where we heard them. The next one was about 6 months later and I was sitting on the couch watching t.v. and my husband was lying in bed reading. My one cat was asleep beside me and my other was in the chair across from me, sleeping also. I was just sitting there and the chair at the dining room table moved out about a foot from the table all by itself. I let out a soft scream 'cause it startled me and my husband asked me what I was doing and I proceeded to tell him about the chair, he asked me where the cats were, and I told him and he got up to inspect our chair. Obviously found nothing, but these incidents keep us on our toes. Received: Feb 20, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Fingers of the Hand Curled Slightly" by: Grunnada [Palmyra, Ontario] When I was about 16 years old, my parents rented a house on #3 highway, outside of Palmyra. There is so much to tell about this place but I will reveal only one at this time. We had experienced a few oddball things since moving in. We took it all in stride as my father always said it was the living that you had to worry about; not the dead. One night I had to go down to the basement for some reason or another. I went down uneventfully, but when I went to go back up the stairs I had a shock. Laying across the stairs directly in front of me was a severed arm. It looked so real. I stopped and tried to call out but found I could not. I was dumbstruck. The next thing I know the fingers of the hand curled slightly as if beckoning me over. At that point I screamed and ran the hell up the stairs past the hand. My father demanded to know what happened and I told him. He sat me down and told me that he had a similiar experience but he had seen a woman in a colonial style dress with one arm bandaged at the elbow where the arm was cut off. She bore no expression on her face, but had beckoned to him as well but insistently pointed at an area in the basement that was dirt floor. He also lost his nerve and got the heck out of there. We sat there and realized we had a spirit in our midst and we two were the ones it chose to communicate with. Neither one of us had told anyone else what we had seen and it appeared that no one else was seeing weird things like us. So we said nothing to no one. Like I said that is only one example of the "haunting". There were so many more over the years, even long after we moved away it still reached out to my Dad and I (to the point of dreams). It even made itself known to some relatives who went back to videotape the old place years later. The house was torn down about three years ago and nothing grows on the spot where it stood.I do not know what it was, but I personally will NEVER set foot on that property ever! At first things were very "normal." Within the first week, I had a terrifying nightmare. In my dream, I had seen a hooded black figure at the end of the bed. When I awoke, I told my roomate about my dream and she said she dreamt the same thing. As the weeks progressed strange things started to happen. At first, the power would go out in just our ROOM!!! The rest of the dorms were fine, just our room was in the dark. Then, the lights would start to flicker in the middle of the night. Once, the cord to the light was even disconnected. Then, we started finding articles of clothing (from a small child) laying in our dorm room. This was very strange because we always LOCKED our doors so how did these articles of clothing get in there? One day, my roomate was working at her desk and I was coming up the stairs. I could see her sitting at her desk working and I said, "Hi Roomy!" As I approached the door, the door slammed right in my face. I think my nose still hurts! My roomate and I were starting to get really nervous about living in our dorm. We talked to previous roomates of that room and they confessed that they would hold seances in that room because it was the largest room in the building. The previous roomates said that they soon stopped because freaky things started happening to them too. Eventually, I had to get a priest to do some exorcisms to get those spirits out of there. I had to have him come twice because usually, you don't get them all the first time. Received: March 7, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Possession or Awakening?" by: Tim [Pierrefonds, Quebec] I had been doing a lot of writing about the present state of the Earth. Never really before interested in writing, I began to do research and putting my conclusions down on paper..I was alone in my room with the door deadbolted from the inside. I was alone. I hung my gold cross on a small shot glass and had my back to it standing up. I was considering renouncing my faith.. I was repeating all the negative things in my head remembering what lead me to this impass.. Out of nowhere the gold cross was thrown at my back and it fell on the floor at my feet. I picked it up, put it on and made sure I was alone.. "I was not scared at all" I pinched myself hard but there was no pain whatsoever. I could also feel that reality around me was being perceived differently..That was the beginning of everything...I opened the door and went into the kitchen.. I had an open bottle of wine and took a glass full back to my room to take the edge off.. After I took just a few sips I started to feel like I was going vomit and I did.. I had to run into the bathroom and started being sick. After I finished throwing up I could not catch my breath, it felt like I was being choked..The seconds were adding up and all I could think of is I am going to die.. It lasted so long without being able to breath. While this going on I could feel the presence of another.. It felt like everything around me stoped..I felt nothing.. I went back in my room and put on my favorite NHL jersey and got the hell out of there. Thats when the voices started clear as day... Asking me question, telling me what to do... It was not stronger than me but it was definately not my own conscience. The voices of friends..The idea was to try to get me to believe an alternate reality and from that reality I would have to make decisions on where to go or what to do. I made it about 40 km from my home...Then decided to go back home.. On the way home I happened to drive through a long tunnel and when I came out the other side the whole sky was white... Not daytime white... Moonlight white.. And all the other cars that were on the road had no voluntary brain activity.. The cars were just roaming off the road and hitting each other as if zombies were driving.. I drove through all the mayhem ffor about 3-5 minutes and then the Sun began to rise.. I can tell you that I have not been the same (physically or mentally) since that night.. I have changed so much.. There is about 6 hrs missing from the time I left the house to the time the Sun came up... There are many memories from this night that I have not mentioned but the next day I had weird looking marks on my body.. about 5 of them.. 1 inch rashes started to apear.. I dunno, there are so many other variables that I have not mentioned... Anyhow...I am 100% changed. My physical abilitys have increased and I look different. My weight has gone up but I look less fat. I feel like I know things before they are going to happen and I began understanding things about physics that I never learned before.. Although the experience was life changing I can't help believe it was not negative demon but something else... Something for me to think about for the rest of my life... There is a lot more to this story...I remember everything like it was yesterday... What can I do except tell someone.. Thanks for listening. I was about four years old when I first encountered something strange. My mother was in the kitchen and someone put their hand on her shoulder and whispered something in her ear. She asked us who did it ... but we weren't near the kitchen and I noticed fear in her face. Over the years stranger things happened, but at such a random rate that they didn't pose much of an issue. Smells of smoke would occur for no reason, a hairdryer flew off a counter. Harsh banging on doors, electronics turning off/on on their own. A toy doll talking all night with a different voice then it should've had. Ashes appearing one morning - covering everything in a bedroom as if it had snowed. A figure of white gliding down the stairs once appeared in a random birthday picture. More things have happened than what I have stated above. A child fearing the "dark man" as she points to nothing and etc. We still live in the house only because months will pass with no occurrences ... and then out of the blue something strange will happen, and again normality takes over. After school before a basketball game me and two others went to get changed. When we walked in it was like always. Then, over by the bathroom and showers it got really really cold. We started hearing noises, so we all sat in the corner to see what would happen next. Then there was three drips and there was three of us. Later that night we went back in and the lights flickered on and off a few times and there was a scream. When I turned around my bestfriend was crying and she said she saw a little girl with brown hair she was about 4 feet crying and came right up to her. Just then it dripped again and just then shoes flew off the beanch and we left. I never go in the change room and I heard that the water still drips for as many people that are in the change room. It used to be an old mill and and is a bar in one part. There are many stories of people that were killed there and now I have some pictures to show that. In one photo you can see three other faces. In another photo there is a very cruel looking face, bearing white teeth and blank eyes. When you are in the bar sometimes when there are little or no people in the bar things move and it sounds like people working or moving around slamming down heavy objects. I worked there for about a year, but nothing ever happened that I noticed. My friends (who also worked at this store) often tell me this is because I am incredibly oblivious at the best of times, or that I would often write off things like objects moved or missing to me having a terrible memory (which sadly, I do.) My friends often had dealings with this ghost, often if no one else was present in the store. There would be merchandise that went missing and reappear in odd places, and books that would fall off the shelves while the aisles were empty. This wouldn't be odd, but the books that fell weren't in precarious positions. We would find books on the floor, put them back, walk away only to find the book on the floor again when we returned. My friends often got frustrated when they couldn't find the item they were looking for and say " where is this damn book" or some such comment. They would then turn around and find the exact book they were looking for half pulled out of the shelf. These occurrences were commonplace for most of us (although, again, I never noticed anything. Captain Oblivious, they call me). They even affectionately called the ghost Ted, or Fred, and would often thank him if he was being helpful, or snap at him when he was being obnoxious. We were pretty comfortable with him there, and he never seemed to bother us aside from the harmless pranks. I stopped working at the store when I moved away for school, and none of my friends work at the store anymore, but I sometimes wonder if he's still there. I've never had the nerve to ask the new people if they've noticed anything. I got up out of bed and walked into my parents room. By the window there was a small boy. He was staring out the window as if he wished that he could go outside but was unable to do so. Now as I stared at him, totally transfixed in horror, he slowly turned to me and smiled. At this point I totally freaked and booked it all the way to my grandfather's house, which is right next door because we live in a townhouse. Now looking back it may have been a good idea to wake up my parents who were sleeping not five feet from where the boy knelt, but I'm sure he meant no harm. The boy has made himself known several times since by playing with my cat, turning off my computer and T.V. and throwing the occasional tantrum (slamming doors and cubbords, stomping up and down stairs and sometimes even groaning). The boy is probably even watching me right now... The next day I went to feed the horses and I tried to turn on the lights but it didn't work.. the plug-in for the lights, which is at the top of the barn roof where no one can reach, was unplugged.. I had this feeling that the ghost of my grandmother did it to let me know she was watching over me. A year later I had this friend over to my new house and she was a card reader. After she read my cards I left to go get something to eat. When I got back she was freaked out, she said she saw a haze going from my fireplace (that was not lit) to my patio door. I figured wow this woman is right into this stuff. A few days later I was home alone watching tv, well to my surprise there was the haze. It started out from the fireplace, then stopped right in front of my eyes. I then figured it was a glaze from the tv so I shut it off. NOPE there was the haze. Then it proceeded to go out the patio door. To this day I have waited for it to come back as I feel it was a sign from my Mom. I am praying it was. About 15 minutes later we heard the door open and close, then we heard steps coming towards our bedroom, with chairs moving around like someone's walking threw the kitchen/dining room. Then my full-grown doberman flew across the room towards the doorway and hit the wall outside of the room, and he ran in the bedroom with his tail to the floor. He was so scared that when we tried to get him out his feet were on the doorway trying not to go back out there. Like a cartoon. We were both thinking why is our friend doing that to our dog, and when we went out of the room to get mad at our friend, no one was there. About 5 minutes after that happened my friend showed up and we told him what happened. A few days later my brother came over and right when he came in he was staring at the bathroom door and he opened the door and started saying "get out of here, leave now". When I asked him who are you talking to he said that there was a tall man standing there that he didnt like the looks of. Now we just hear things in the apartment next to us even though no one lived in there for months. Received: June 11, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Door Flew Inwards" by: Barbara [Simcoe, Ontario] My husband and I bought a house from a man who was believed to have murdered his wife who separated from him shortly before she died. One night I was thinking about what I had heard of the facts and all of the newspaper articles of the husband's trial I had saved. I kept thinking about how people were saying the murder was committed by the woman's oldest son, or her husband, but no one knew for sure. It never went to trial as the man committed suicide running his car into a tractor trailer truck. This particular night was very hot and I had my air conditioning on and went to bed around 11:00 pm still thinking about this stuff. My oldest son had some friends over for a swim and was downstairs visiting with them. My other two smaller children were in bed while my husband was working his nightshift. Out of nowhere I was awaken by a very loud bang! My bathroom door that adjoins to our master suite suddening flew open. It hit our towel rack with such a thud it made a mark. I was coming out of a deep sleep and happened to look at my clock and it was around 1:00 a.m. The 1st strange thing is... this door flew INWARDS towards the bathroom. There was NO breeze as the windows were shut due to the air being on. The second thing I thought was maybe one of my son's friends got mixed up as it was their first time here and turned the doorknob and walked into my bedroom by mistake and was so embarrassed they just left the door opened after leaving. I was so shook up I left it and told my son the next morning along with my husband. I finally asked my son if one of his friends had used our washroom instead of the one downstairs?? He said no mom they all left around 12:00 p.m. So the only explanation I can come to was the lady who was murdered was giving me a sign that she did NOT want me to believe it was her son and to stop questioning it. I figure it had to be her husband as nothing like that has happened since. Received: June 16, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Disappeared Through The Picture Window" by: Harold [Kemptville, Ontario] I only saw this happen once. It was in a brand new house that we had lived in for only a few years. I was 6 or 7 at the time but believe me, I can recount this like it happened yesterday. I am in my early 40s now. I do not remember what woke me up but I did awake to see a shape of a woman darker than the ambient darkness in the hallway arrive at the end of the hall, right in front of my doorway. She spun around slowly as if to be dancing. Her arms would raise and lower seemingly dancing to a tune only heard by her. This seemed to happen for about a minute. Needless to say, I was so frightened I could only lie there and watch. Out of the corner of my eye further down the hallway past the "dancing shadow"; there, near the front foyer of the home in front of the living room was now a grey mist shape brighter than the ambient darkness down the hall. It raised an arm and beckoned the darker dancing shadow to follow. I watched as the darker shadow floated towards the gray mist, the two joined arm in arm and then disappeared through the picture window. I could not go back to sleep but thought my parents would think I was nuts if I told them so I stayed up all that night (I only recounted this story to them several years ago). I did insist the next evening that I had to have a light on all night or I could not go to sleep. Who could it have been? It was perhaps my grandmother and another predeceased relative (neither whom I had ever met in life) who were simply checking in on grandchildren they never got to see. You see my grandmother died tragically in a house fire along with her only son and youngest daughter (same age spread as my sister and I) back in the mid 50's. My mother barely escaped that same fire and managed to save her middle sister before fire consumed the whole house. Received: August 5, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Tv And Lights Operating On Their Own" by: Danny [Oshawa, Ontario] Not long after my son, Brendan who is 22 years old, settled in to his new place he told me about how his television and light would come on while he was sleeping. As Brendan will tell you he is a light sleeper and wakes up easily to any small noise. The actual sound of a light switch being turned on and off as well as a television would probably unnerve the bravest of us. Not Brendan, he just tells his visitor to stop it and let him sleep. Brendan's television has a sleep option that he uses every night, and he does not leave his lights on. Paul (his brother, who also lives in the house) has become a true believer, noting that his younger brother was fast asleep when he came home from work and the tv and lights were on. The fact that Brendan can hear the light switch being turned on and off and the television actually switching itself on is incredible. Yet, he'll have none of it and will not be perturbed by this seemingly harmless ghost. Two years ago I hung a very heavy mirror in the living room. Today's date is August 10th,2007. Three weeks ago this mirror came out of the wall and landed standing up on the back of Paul and his wife's couch. Believe me when I tell you that the plaster walls are thick and I used really heavy duty anchors to secure this bloody mirror. To me the mirror had been pulled out of the wall just by the look of the anchors. They were not bent in any way as one would expect if the mirror had simply fallen from its' weight. Last year we nearly lost our Daughter-in-law Melanie (Paul's wife) during her pregnancy with twin boys. Both boys died in the womb causing unimaginable problems to Melanie's health while in the hospital. Our Grandsons were buried together in the same wee coffin. My Wife and I are still devestated, one year later. I trust in God that none of these happenings are intertwined. I leave you to your own personal judgement on this ghost story. He fell instantly back to sleep again, and something else woke him up. It was a singing noise under his bed. He checked underneath again, and then a black figure like a woman's came up from his bed, and then slowly vanished. He said he didn't want to ever sleep in his bed again. Received: August 12, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Man In The Black Cape" by: Sandra [Brampton, Ontario] Received: October 17, 2007 We moved into our apartment 11 years ago. When our daughter was small, her dolls that sang and played "pat-a-cake", "ring around the rosey" and some other doll, would ALL start to sing at the same time in the middle of the night. The dolls were kept in our dining room. At first we thought dry air. Or the batteries. These dolls would only "talk/sing" if you held their hands, yet we were all sleeping when they would all three start at the same time. It was around then that I would often see a "man in a black cape" running up or down the hallway or going into the kitchen. At first I thought that since we had just moved in that I was seeing shadows and had an overactive imagination. I never mentioned the man to anyone...thinking it was nothing. Until one night while watching Hockey Night in Canada on the couch with my husband, I saw the man again...only this time, my husband said, "I just saw a man in a black cape run up the hall." My jaw dropped, I froze, and I shivered... he saw the same thing that I had been seeing for the past 2 months at the exact same time I saw him again and yet HAD NEVER mentioned to him or anyone. He could not have known what I had witnessed. I have no idea what is going on in the building, but in the past 11 years, have seen the man in the black cape, a white cat, heard noises coming from the litterbox...and there is NO cat in there, our other cats were sleeping. I myself have been woken up at night, seeing a young girl around the age of 9 or 10 standing in the hallway, always dressed in a nightgown and with blond wavy hair. I have experienced a woman entirely in white in the basement of the building and seen her in our apartment. My husband saw her come from the apartment across the hall and walk into our suite one night when he was coming home from work. While sitting here at the computer, a cupboard to my left where the kids store toys, opened one afternoon, by itself...both doors at EXACTLY the same time. They had been shut tight all day and then out of the blue, they both opened. Toys have disappeared. Then reappeared only in a different part of the house. A small plastic container we put under the air conditioner on the windowsill to collect condensation literally flew from underneath the air conditioner to half way into the living room by itself. Hand weights have come off the stand (we are talking 5 - 10 pound weights) by themselves, landing upright on their ends. I have experienced the little girl playing tag with me, tapping me on the shoulder and when she does, I experience a chill that is so cold, it sends shivers like you wouldn't believe. And the cold is not an all over cold, just that particular spot. She appears from time to time, like she is looking for her mother or a mother to take care of her and somehow has come to me. I am the only one to see her, however we wonder if it is her that takes and hides toys. The lid to a storage container has risen above the actual container itself and then slowly lowered itself back onto the container. I have smelled cigarette smoke in the apartment, but in bedrooms where and when there is nobody else in the apartment except for myself and the cats. And I don't smoke. I have heard knocking at the front door, definite knocking that has even made the cats sit up, yet nobody is there. The television has gone on by itself. It has also shut off by itself. Things in the apartment move, then they return to where they had once been. Things like "knicknacks" on the shelves, toys, a lighter. We have smelled perfume or aftershave/cologne in the apartment when nobody is wearing anything and it is a scent neither myself nor my daughter own. While in the bathroom in the middle of the night, the door opened by itself and a small towel that was hanging on the door started to move, like a breeze was blowing it, yet there was nobody or nothing there. That same night, just a minute or 2 before, the phone rang and there was nobody there, only a "beeping" sound, much like if someone was sending you a fax. It was then that I had to go to the washroom after being woken up and the door was only a little closed but fully opened on it's own, like the phonecall and the door opening were a "sign" that someone was there. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Ghost Played The Drums" by: Montana [Peterborough, Ontario] Received: November 24, 2007 When I was at my friend's place visiting, her and I stayed home while everyone else went out shopping. I always loved going to her house because a lot of freaky things happened that no one can explain. A lot of people would have haunted stories when they left the house. She lives out in the country so it's very unlikely to have people come around. We were in the living room when we kept hearing her sister's drums in the basement. We thought it was something that had to sound like the drums because no one was home. We went down to look (really creeped out to remind you) to see what it was. As we reached the last step on the stairs, the drumming stopped. We figured it had to be something else. Everytime we went upstairs the sound continued again. And everytime we would go to look, it would stop. So when we were finally annoyed, we went right downstairs and into her room. My friend had a middle room, then her bedroom. The door to her bedroom is really hard to open so you need a real good push to get it open. When I was in the door-way of the middle room, my friend right next to me was scared to death. The door to her bedroom was opening slowly like if someone was doing it. Then we heard a voice in the room and I regret that I did this, but we ran right upstairs. We were so scared of what had happened we decided that next time we go downstairs we would have her dad with us or a bat. To be honest, this wasn't the first time freaky things has happened to me inside or outside of that house. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Note: ALL GHOST STORIES SUBMITTED FROM NOV 28,2007- MARCH 1, 2008 HAVE BEEN DELETED DUE TO A TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY BEYOND OUR CONTROL. After about a year of living there we hadn't experienced anything "paranormal"...and then we got a dog. Min was a stray dog from the Caledon Humane Society and one night while I was down in the basement watching TV, my new dog curled up on the couch beside me unexpectedly started growling. As a new dog I figured she was just getting used to me but she jumped off the couch and ran, tail between her legs into my younger sister's playroom. Still growling like crazy, I got up to go see what she was growling at. When I stepped into the playroom and turned on the light, my chest immediately tightened when I realized Min's hackles were up from between her eyes to the tip of her tail. She was growling at a corner of the room which seemed to contain nothing to my eyes. It freaked me out so I grabbed her collar and I took her upstairs. After that it seemed more activity kicked up, my Mom claimed that at night, when my brother wasn't home she would hear his bedroom door slamming shut and she would go down to see if he was home and the door would be open. One afternoon she was going into the basement to do laundry and out of the corner of her eye, she saw what looked like a man walking towards her. Thinking it was my brother she turned to ask him why he wasn't at school and no one was there. I had a similar experience to this and it only seemed to happen in the basement. The dog eventually died down with the growling but every now and then her head would come up from her nap and it looked like she was following something across the room with her eyes. If there is a ghost in our house it is a benign one as the very last experience I had with it I was watching my soap opera in the afternoon when I was about 18, and all of the sudden the TV just turned off. The channel changer was broken so I had to get up to turn it back on, thinking nothing of it. As I turned back to the couch the TV shut off again. I turned it back on and this time had settled into the couch when it turned off again. In my frustration I said, "Okay, I get it you're here; now will you turn the TV back on?" And it came back on by itself. I was shocked and a little scared that it had actually worked but I didn't want to show fear as "the spirit" obviously was playing with me. That was the last time any of us have really experienced anything. A psychic said it was my guardian angel playing with me. Who knows? ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Previous Owners' Apparitions Haunt Old House" by: Willow [Pictou, Nova Scotia] Received: March 6, 2008 When I was in my early teens, we moved into a house that would now be over two hundred years old. We really didn't experience anything too different at first, except for our dog, a Siberian Husky, who would not go down the right hand side of the upper level of the house. He would stand at the level, look down that direction, and whine when you would try to call him down, but wouldn't set one paw in that direction. Other funny stuff he would do in the house, like wake up and stare at nothing, etc. After living in the house for a few years, we started to notice things. One night, my sister was there with her boyfriend at the time, and they were sitting in the front parlour watching T.V. Noticing something out of the corner of their eye, they turned to their left to look into the front hall, which also had a good view of the staircase leading upstairs. Both of them saw an old lady walk past the doorway and proceed up the stairs, while no one else was in the house, much less an old lady. They weren't really afraid of what they saw, just kind of freaked. My sister says that she also had another similar experience to this a few weeks after that, and from then on refused to be in the house alone. She wasn't necessarily scared of the apparition, just that she was seeing the unexplained. We were never really scared, just uncomfortable at times. One night my mother was in her bedroom sleeping at night when she suddenly awoke. She turned over in her bed to look at the alarm clock on her bedside table. There, only a foot away from her, between a narrow stetch between the bed and closet, was an old lady sitting in a rocking chair. She had snow white hair, an old fashioned full length dress on and was sitting in a rocking chair with her face cupped in her hands. My mother thought that she was dreaming, shook her head, squinched her eyes and looked agian. The old lady was gone. She took note of the time as being a few minutes after 1 am. Like I said, she thought that she dreamt it, so she rolled over and went back to sleep. A little while later she was awakened from her sleep again. Once again she says that she rolled over in her bed, and once again she was confronted with the image of the old lady with her head in her hands. Once again she shook it off, thinking that she must of been seeing things and tried to go back to sleep. She did look at the clock again and noticed that it was exactly an hour after the first time that she was awakened, but tried to shake it off and go back to sleep. An hour later, on the dot, she was once again awakened, and looking at the same spot between the bed and closet, saw the old lady with her head in her hands. This time, she says, she got up and went to the bathroom to make sure that she was awake and actually experiencing it. When she returned to the bedroom, there was no lady, no rocking chair. She then went back to bed, a little disconcerted, and slept the rest of the night. Still curious about her experience, she went to visit the lady that lived next door to us, an old woman we really adored named Aunty Gladious, who was in her nineties and had moved into the house as a young bride. She told Aunty of her experience and Aunty told her that she had described the wife of the original builder of the house, to a tee. She was an old lady when Aunty moved in beside her, she used to wear long old fashioned dresses with a small flower print on them, and the room in the front which my mother used as a bedroom, had been used as a parlour. Aunty also told her that she would sit in the corner in her rocking chair and would do embroidery and other fine work- exactly where my mother saw her. She also told my mother not to worry, the she was a good soul and meant no harm, she was just looking after the house and the people who lived there. She also said that she didn't particularily care for the old lady's husband, that she thought that he was a bully, overbearing to his wife and children, not particularily kind, hard to others. When my stepfather came home a few days later and heard my mother's story, he was amazed, but not particularily suprised. He said that he had felt strange things in the basement long before that, things that made him feel uncomfortable, and once thought that he saw an older man down there, but when he looked around the basement, there was no one there. My brother Paul, now passed, said that he saw something down there once while he was getting wood for the stove, an old man which he said scared him. I myself did not have a major ghost event in there, except of course for the general spooked feeling that we all had, and not wanting to be alone. The thing that stikes me now about it all is the acceptance that we all had of these events at the time, that they were experienced by different individuals, and eventually shared the stories with one another, but that they were generally taken in stride, and didn't really make us scared to live there. It was just kind of accepted. Maybe because they happened over a span of several years on a sporadic basis, and it took a long time for the experiences to be shared, so we got used to the idea of having an event happening before something else occured or was shared. To the point that they would almost be forgotten before something else weird happened. Even the behaviour of the dog was dismissed as being just one of his quirks. I was just actually talking to my sis online as I was writing this and she remembers how the place used to spook her.. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Trailer" by: Jodi [Windsor, Nova Scotia] Received: March 8, 2008 When I was a child me and my family lived in a three bedroom trailer. All of my family members experienced strange things. Examples: (1) at night mine and my brother's beds would vibrate (2) the tv and vcr would change channels and rewind by themselves (3) my youngest brother said he saw red eyes coming at him through the window (4) one night my parents where having a drink with friends and about 12 of us including my parents saw a beer can move across the table (5) one night I was in my room reading and I heard my father say that he had seen his deceased father sitting in the chair.. Could it have been my grandfather provoking all the occurrences?? The strange thing is my grandmother (his wife) lived just next door and nothing ever happened at her place, but when we moved out of the trailer my grandmother moved in and the unexplained continued. The trailer is no longer on this location, but I sometimes wonder if the ghost is still there on the property.... ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Red Flashing Light In My Room" by: Miranda [Hamilton, Ontario] Received: March 11, 2008 One night after my great-grandmother died on November 13,2006 I saw this red flashing light flash in my room and after a few seconds the flashing said "I Will Always Love You une Amore, da Nonna Lucia." In Italian that means I will always love you my love from Grandma Lucia. I looked out my window and saw a shooting star, I know it was her but everyone else says I was just dreaming and I know I was awake. Everytime there's a shooting star I know it's always her. I just moved into my new home and we have her bed in the spare bedroom and everytime I watch TV I get this really good feeling. I miss her and I am positive that the flashing light really happened. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Apparition At Fort George" by: Vicky [Fort George, Ontario] Received: March 18, 2008 My story is one that most don't believe, but I've replayed this encounter out during the day there was no way a real person could have done what my apparition did. I was 12 at the time, I'm 18 now. I do 1812 re-enacting as a hobby with my family, and we were at historic Fort George near the Niagara region. We were camped inside the fort behind a little grey building that was the jail. The bathrooms were a fair trek near the middle of this fort, a few feet away from a horseshoe shaped yellow officers' house with the rectangular "block" kitchen nestled in the "U" of this house. About 3 am I woke and really had to use the bathroom, but I'm scared of the dark so I hate going. Finally I roused myself up and headed for the washrooms. On the way there I noticed absolutely no one was out, and the only noises were the snoring and the occasional crackling of fires dieing. After I had used the facilities, I noticed that the air was very cold for the summer night, of the days being at least in the +40's, the night shouldn't have been that cold. I was walking back when I had this urge to look at that little block kitchen, and there, standing at one corner, facing me was a man. The man was wearing the old style officers 1812 uniform, with high riding boots, but I couldn't see his face clearly at all. I thought that it was odd he was standing there, so I was friendly and waved. He all of a sudden turned, walked down the wall a bit and was gone. I assumed he went around the corner, so I waited because there's no way he could go anywhere unless he turned around and came back, or made the full circle around the building. After 20 minutes, I walked completely around the building, but he wasn't there. A lot of people don't believe me, but I know one things for sure, Fort George was where Brock was stationed right before he died. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Glowing Nomes" by: Diane [Prince George, British Columbia] Received: March 26, 2008 Well I have two, but they maybe from both entities? We lived in this huge apartment building called Spanish Villa. It had three floors, and was in the shape of a square with a swimming pool right in the middle. We lived on the main floor, and my best friend on the third floor. Unfortunately, the pool was closed and nobody that I had known had ever swam in there. We snooped around and wondered why it had been closed. We, my friends and I, had found out that a little boy had drowned in the pool, that is why it was closed. Apparently he had dived into the shallow end and banged his head and died. Anyhow, one day I was sleeping and for some reason I woke up and went to go look out the window, which faced the inside of the pool area. And there was this light that was swirling around. A huge bright light, almost as big as a spotlight. Almost like on that movie 'Cocoon'. I calmly went back to sleep and remembered this strange occurrence in the morning, but thinking it was odd. A while later, me and my friends had a seance in her apartment, that was on the third floor. We didn't really know how to do one, so we just made one out of paper! We were too scared to call on someone who passed away so we decided to call Elvis! I know it's silly, but we asked "if you are here show us a sign". We didn't expect anything but out of the blue we heard three thumps, like someone walking heavily on the ceiling. We knew this was impossible to do because my friend lived on the top floor. Well we stopped because we were all getting scared because my cousin said that one of my friends parents' ornaments were starting to glow. It was one of those ornaments that you put in your front lawn. I think you call them nomes. But its eyes really were glowing because I saw it myself. I have never been back at that apartment and wonder if it's still even standing. But I have a feeling it was the little boy playing with us, or maybe he was trying to contact us. Maybe it wasn't even him, but I felt that the spirit that was with us on the third floor was not a good entity but an evil one!! ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Cat Came Back" by: Kelsey [Prince Albert, Saskatchewan] Received: April 4, 2008 This didn't happen to me, but to my auntie Maralin when she was living in Prince Albert, Canada. When she was younger, her first born my god brother (Branden) was about 3-5 years of age. Whenever she was cleaning her house she would always find black hair everywhere. She could not find where this mysterious hair was coming from, but time after time again she would always find this hair. It couldn't have possibly been from an animal because at the time she didn't have any animals living in her home. Almost every time she found this hair she would see something out of the corner of her eye. She knew it was an animal. She could see its "animal like" figure or shape. She would always go to the place where she saw this mysterious creature, but she never found anything. She was the only person who would see his creature, until one day she was washing dishes and her son (my god brother) saw it too. He was standing behind her, "Mom, where did that CAT come from?" She turned around and looked at her son. "What cat hunny?". He answered, "The cat that went over there!" He pointed down the hall. His mom answered with another question "Hunny, Where did this cat go?" He looked at her for a moment, then answered, "It went into the bathroom!" She ran down the hall to go and see where this cat was. She went into the bathroom, but all she found was alot of black hair! After her son saw this "cat" non of them ever saw the cat again. It had simply vanished. Like into thin air. I hope you ejoyed. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Dog Attacked By The Unknown" by: anonymous [Nova Scotia] Received: April 10, 2008 My boyfriend had found his first apartment, which happened to be a big old house with about 6 bedrooms inside. The house was a disaster, clearly not taken care of, and creepy without having anything happen yet. After lots of cleaning and painting he moved in. There was one night specially that caused me to never ever sleep there again, and for my boyfriend to move out about a month later. One night after we had some friends over and a couple drinks, we went out.. We walked home, once we got home we both went to bed, it was after midnight. He had fallen asleep while I was just dozing off.. as I was dozing off I was struck wide awake with the sounds of what seemed to be someone breaking in the house, the screen door hit the side of the house, the dog he had at the time was barking, growling, yelping.. fighting with who at the time I thought was an intruder. I woke my boyfriend up, crying that someone was breaking in! He sat up, we sat there listening to the commotion frozen in fear, unable to move. The struggling in the kitchen came to a sudden stop. The dog was locked in the kitchen, there were 2 living rooms on the main floor, as we listened closely the sound of nails clicking through the first living room faded into the 2nd living room, becoming completely quiet. My boyfriend finally got up, and opened the bedroom door, to find the dog laying quietly at the base of the bedroom door, all doors still shut and locked, no footprints, no sign of any struggle what so ever. I refused to go there, and he moved out shortly after. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "It Came Closer And Closer" by: Jasmyn [London, Ontario] Received: April 10, 2008 About 2 or 3 days ago my dad asked me to bring something down to the basement, so I did. My cat seemed to be looking at something so I got kinda scared and I ran up stairs. Then I had to go down to the basement again later on, and I looked on the other side of the room and saw this figure that looked to be a flash of light. Then it stopped and stared at me. I got really scared and didn't know what to do so I just stayed there and watched it. It came closer and closer to me, I screamed and it looked at me and went away. Now I am terrified of my basement and my house. Although the ghost looked friendly, I still don't trust my house!!! Would you???? ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Voices of Children Talking and Giggling" by: Anita [Merritt, British Columbia] Received: May 1, 2008 About twelve years ago, I was with my boyfriend at his parents' home one weekend. In the morning I felt my boyfriend wake up and get out of bed. Then I heard him use the shower, get dressed and go outside. I don't know if I was between sleep and wakefulness, but I felt someone sit down on the bed beside me and put their hand on my shoulder. I thought to myself that this is very weird, I was kind of scared. I opened my eyes and there was no one there. There was an indent on the blanket. My boyfriend came back in the house and I got up and told him what just happened. He said, that long ago there was an old lady that had a homestead where the current house is sitting. He said that her and her grandchildren were burnt in a house fire. He told me that a previous girlfriend had had a similar experience, but had felt hands around her neck, and pressure on her chest. Needless to say he said she never stayed there again, and their relationship dissolved. The next day, I got up and decided that I would help out my boyfriends' parents by mowing their front lawn. It was a hot day and when I finished I took a seat on the couch in the basement to cool off and rest. It was quiet except for the small noises of my mother in law upstairs doing something in the kitchen. I heard her walk over to the sliding glass door that goes onto the walkaround balcony. She often goes out there to hang laundry. Anyway I heard her go out there, I also heard small footsteps behind her and small voices of children talking to her and giggling. I thought to myself that her grandchildren must be visiting and I left it at that. I must have been sitting there for at least a half hour, when I thought I should maybe get a drink of water from upstairs. I went upstairs and I found my mother in law by herself. I said to her where are the grandkids, I swear I heard them follow you out onto the balcony. She chuckled and said there's no one here except you and me. I believed at that moment that spirits do hang around. I think that these spirits guard my ex-in laws, and some how my ex-mother in law draws spirits to her somehow. I regard her to be knowledgeable about herbs and native medicines, and a spiritual healer. I don't see her very often now, though I know that is an experience we will always mutually share. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Black Hole" by: Stephanie [Terrebonne, Quebec] Received: May 8, 2008 When I was young, I remember going to bed and every time my parents would close my door I didn't like it. To get into my brother's room you had to pass through my bed room. When I would go to open the light, a big black hole would slowly open on my brother's bedroom door. It felt as if it would try to suck me into it. I would hold the carpet tight with the tips of my fingers and scream, but nothing would come out. I'd drag myself closer to my bedroom door. After a while, that seemed to be so long, my voice would come back and when my parents would finally open my bedroom door I'd turn around and there was nothing. I don't know why I would go back everytime when I knew what was going to happen. I would like to talk to someone who would be able to let me know what this was the black hole. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Objects Disappearing Then Reappearing" by: Alyssa [Fernie, British Columbia] Received: May 9, 2008 Just after my boyfriend and I moved in to the place we now live in, I was getting ready for bed and couldn't find my dental floss anywhere (which I used the day before). I went away to work for a week or so and the first night I was back there was a different kind of floss sitting on a shelf in the bathroom. I thanked my boyfriend for getting me new floss but he hadn't. Then, a couple months later my old floss showed up in the other bathroom. Another time I woke up in the morning to find a candle, that usually sits on the kitchen counter, sitting in the middle of the living room floor. My boyfriend came home one day and found one of his kitchen knives (which I'd never used) in the driveway. We kept finding things in places we haven't put them and then things quit happening. Until last weekend. I opened a little drawer, in a wooden box on my dresser, where I keep my chapsticks and a mini football helmet which had been on the kitchen window sill was in the drawer with a ziplock bag of campfire starter sticks which neither of us had seen before. That night we were both in the kitchen, me cooking at the stove and him washing dishes, and all of a sudden his glass of ice tea was gone and neither of us had left the room. We looked everywhere and then all of a sudden there it was on the window sill above the sink - freaked us out pretty good! The weirdest thing yet happened the next evening; we were playing cards at the kitchen table and I got up to make myself a Bloody Mary. I put ice cubes in my glass and put the tray back in the freezer, grabbed the vodka and when I got back to my glass there was no ice in it. I kind of brushed it off, got more ice, poured a shot of vodka into the glass, put it away and when I got back to my glass it was once again empty and I totally freaked out. I'd rimmed the glass with salt which was untouched and my boyfriend checked the shot glass which still had drops of vodka in it... ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Dishes Rattled On Their Own" by: Katelyn [Oakville, Ontario] Received: May 18, 2008 Since I was very young I remember strange things happening in my house. One thing that was a regular occurrence would be objects shaking or moving by themselves. One time I heard a rattling sound in the kitchen and all our dishes in the sink were vigourasly shaking. I was very young and didn't know what to think of it, so I told my mother. My mom, I'm assuming didn't want to scare me and just told me thats what would happend whenever airplanes flew overhead. Now that I'm older and still have a very clear memory of this incident, I realize it was most likely the paranormal. In Oakville we don't even have an airport and I've never heard of planes flying that low around here. I still have a few scars on my chest because my cat jumped in my arms scared when the dishes shook. That is the most clear memory from living in that house because it wasn't just one individual object like usual, it was the entire sink full of dishes and I still remember the sound. When I was in my teens, we moved into a new house where I am currently living, still located in Oakville. Right down the street from my house is a very small graveyard, the oldest graveyard in Oakville, dating back to the 1800's. I don't know if this has anything to do with the presence in my house but it's a hunch. When we first moved in, the first thing I noticed was the attic door opens by itself. My brother and I used to get into arguements over who was opening the door. Later on there have been cases where it has opened in the night when everyone is sleeping and I have a friend who will not sleep at my house anymore because when we were getting ready to go to bed and I mentioned to her "don't be surprised if that door is open in the morning" and I explained why. She thought I was joking. Sure enough the door was open in the morning. I have tried to open the door before and it is very heavy and almost impossible to open. Another thing that has happened was this previous xmas, I was setting up the dinner table awaiting for company. My ex boyfriend was sitting on the couch and he witnessed this. On the center of the table there is a glass basket type thing usually filled with ornaments and decorations. As I was walking past the table, about a meter and a half away, the handle on the glass basket just snapped, sending shards of glass everywhere. I think i jumped about five feet when that happened just because it caught me offguard. Another thing that has happened a few times is my brother's stereo turns on by itself. There have been times where we've been eating dinner as a family around the table and the stereo turns on by itself, full blast. My brother did an experiment, he has turned the volume all the way down and it still turns on full blast when it goes off by itself. There is also no timer or anything set on the stereo. My dog also notices things. He will stare at things and follow them with his head but I look and there is nothing there. The one thing that really scared me was when I was sitting in my living room and my dog started growling and backing up towards me. His head was following something, turning to the left. I called my dogs name and he wouldn't listen or take his eyes off whatever he was looking at. I looked down at him and the hair on his back was standing right up and he was standing in a defensive position with his head angled down, back arched. My dog usually is not one to growl and I had never heard him growl like this. I was watching him and his eyes followed the presence walk up the stairs and then he was okay. This really disturbed me because my dog doesn't usually growl at the presence, he just simply follows it with his eyes or will sometimes give a small bark. But this time my dog was genuinely scared and intimidated. I also had a friend sleep over and ask me who was running up and down the stairs all night, I just told her we have an old house so it creaks but she was insistent that this was someone walking and at some points running. I didn't tell her my house has a presence in it because I knew she woudn't want to sleep over again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Cottage" by: Shannara [Cochrane, Ontario] Received: May 20, 2008 One night my friends and I went to my friend's cottage. A thunder storm started and we had to use candles because the roof was leeking on the fuse box. Our neighbor has a miniture light house and she turned it on. It gave off an eerie glow. We were all sitting on the couch looking out the window and listening to the rain pound on the glass. Then we saw it. It looked like a young girl running around but, she was dressed in pure white and see through. We closed the blinds and went to bed, but we all will never forget the little girl in white. This summer we are returning to the cottage in hopes of seeing her again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Lady Pulled Me Through The Wall!" by: Laurie [Oliver, British Columbia] Received: May 23, 2008 My aunt told me this story. This was when her children were young, about thirty years ago. My aunt had agreed to babysit for her sister and brought along her 2 children. She put all the kids to bed in one bedroom which was just off the living room, where she would sit and read (they had no television). She could see the bedroom door from where she would sit. It was a very stormy night, very heavy rain. She kept hearing a strange noise outside of the front door, but dismissed it for the loud rain. She continued reading, but the sound persisted. She said it was like a child sobbing. Finally she got up and opened the front door, and to her horror, saw her 7 year old daughter standing on the step, drenched from the rain. The only way out of that bedroom was the door, and my aunt had not left the living room. When she asked her daughter how she got outside she said "the lady pulled me through the wall"! My aunt never babysat at that house again! ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Ghost Chases Wife From Her House" by: Clyde [Tignish, Prince Edward Island] Received: October 2, 2008 My wife and I purchased a house in Tignish PEI that was built in 1918 by a wealthy merchant. The house has passed through two families prior to our purchase of the property. We have started a complete refurburish of the house and recently we have experienced several unexplained occurrances. Doors have slamed shut, and I have felt the presence of something that has on many occasions touched my shoulder. My 36 year old son who was on a visit has been grabbed by the feet while sleeping. We have heard foot steps at night but when investigated there is no sign of anyone. When passing by the main stair case we have experienced a severe cold feeling that passes when you are out of the area. On October 1, 2008 @approximately 23.30 hrs my wife was startled by the sound of marching troops that grew louder forcing her from the second story bedroom and finally out of the house. She is presently residing at the local inn that was formally a convent and is wondering what action on she is to take to get her house back. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Car in the Ditch Disappeared" by: J [Mission, British Columbia] Received: October 25, 2008 I was on my way home one night driving. It was pretty late, maybe around 1 or 2 in the morning. It was a nice night, the moon was full, and the night was good. I was driving on a road full of s-turns, and as I made the last curve there was a car that was flipped over in the ditch, with a girl wearing all white, the moon was shinning down on her. As I saw her I got goose bumps down my neck. I wasn't sure if I should turn around or not, so I decided to stop and turn around. As I went back to where this car was in the ditch, it was gone. There was no way the car could get out, so I proceeded to back track the car and girl was gone. Ever since then I have been trying to figure out if there was an accident where a girl died and her spirit still goes there. Ever since then I never saw her or it there again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Ghost Helps Woman Feel Safe" by: anonymous [Nova Scotia] Received: October 27, 2008 My husband and I lived in a basement apartment that I never found to be comfortable, safe ( it's the only words that seems to fit), which I thought was because I had windows at ground level. I had started having nightmares of a woman lying dead on my kitchen floor, in this dream she was in her late 60's and I just remember someone saying that they had changed her shirt but not why. A few days later my 3yr old daughter and I were watching TV in our living room when she seen her dad go into the kitchen and asked what her dad was making. I looked into the kitchen (you could see it from my couch and there was no one there), when I went up to look her dad was asleep in bed. I told a neighbor about my nightmares and my daughter's experience and was told in turn that a lady had died in my kitchen. She had an anyerism while making tea at the counter. Once I knew what was causing the nightmares I stopped having them, and the apartment felt safe and I became very comfortable and didn't mind staying there alone. I guess the woman just wanted me to know she was there. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Floor Fan Turned on at Full Speed" by: Clarissa [Calgary, Alberta] Received: October 28, 2008 When I was in JR High (age 14, I am now 24), I lived in a bungalow with my mother in an area called Elmwood. I remember one night when I was home alone, I sat at the dinner table studying when all of a sudden the floor fan in the next room turned on at full speed. I remember sitting there, freaked out of my mind. Eventually, after a few minutes, I got up and turned off the fan. What was scary was the fact that my dog had only started barking crazily right before the fan went on. We have since moved from that house, but I still have dreams about it to this day -I have dreams that the basement is haunted and that as long as the lights are on - the ghosts won't get you. That basement had no windows and whenever I slept down there, I insisted on having a friend sleep over or that my mom would sleep down there too. I remember one night I had a nightmare that someone was tickling my neck, but apparently I screamed out loud that I was being strangled. I don't know, but I still feel creeped out by that house. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Poltergeist Drops Coins In The Shower" by: Austin [Ottawa, Ontario] Received: October 31, 2008 I was taking a shower and coins were falling in the tub as I was washing. I looked up to see where they were coming from and as I did this coins were still falling. Also heard a noise in a bedroom and when I went to look a candle had moved off it's stand (candle was on a stand with a spike in middle with loose beads around the candle) the candle was 2 feet away on the floor with the beads still around it. My wife has woke up in the night feeling someone or something leaning on the bed looking at her. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Voice of a Woman" by: Anna [Surrey, British Columbia] Received: October 31, 2008 I lived in this appartment for 5 years. I've been feeling someone touching me. By the way I'm a 42 year old female who is in a wheelchair and I have homemakers who come get me up. One of them heard the voice of a woman. And one evening my boyfriend had heard that same voice too. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Toy Missing Batteries Moved On It's Own" by: anonymous [Toronto, Ontario] Received: November 7, 2008 I live in an apartment and my brother from Montreal was visiting me. About 3:00am I walked by my step son's door and heard this fire truck sound. My step son was not home that night. I opened his door and saw the lights going off, the ladder on it going up and down, and side to side, and I saw it trying to move. The firetruck has no batteries in it and hasn't been played with for 3 years. I called my wife, my brother and his wife to come see and they all saw the firetruck doing freeky stuff. But the strange thing is my son is 12 years old and for about 4 years he has been saying he's been seeing stuff in his room. I didn't believe him because I didn't really believe in the paranormal. And one time his aunt came over to babysit him, before we left he said he heard an old fashion bell ringing. Our nextdoor neighbours moved out a week before and they didn't have an old fasioned ring tone, neither did we. We opened up our room and nobody was in it and it got louder and louder then became DEAD silent and more stuff after that. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Theater" by: Sylvie [Ottawa, Ontario] Received: November 8, 2008 The event occurred approximately 9 years ago. There are two other witnesses. I saw an old caucasian man (who looked to be in his 60's) with a white shirt and grey hair (somewhat balding). I did the standard eye rub (as I figured I must have been seeing things, since there was only myself and the female manager on duty since the theaters had just closed, and it was shortly after midnight). I noticed the man while cleaning up the large theater room (room 1). I looked up into the projection room, the light was on, and I saw the man standing against the wall looking at me. I told my manager (which completely freaked her out because she thought maybe someone had broken into the upstairs area). We both went upstairs to look around, and of course we saw nothing. We returned to the office area. My friend Erin showed up and waited for me by the office door. When we were about to leave the room, the phone started making noises (the sound the little red release button - used in businesses -would make when touched), but neither of us were within any distance to the phone. When we had mentioned what had happened, we received two comments... The first comment was apparently years ago when they had a hired projectionist, he had committed suicide in the projection area. The second comment was that an elderly man had passed away in the large theater room (room 1). Keep in mind that both comments were just heresay, and I never looked into seeing if either of them really occurred. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Touched, Pushed and Pinched" by: Lisa [Whitby, Ontario] Received: November 9, 2008 I have lived in this house pretty much my whole life. Over the years I have become sensitive to unexplained activities which have occurred and been witnessed by others as well. Cupboards opening in the kitchen when I've left the room, chairs moving around the basement. On more than one occaision I have been touched, pushed and pinched. I have also seen a full-torso, solid black figure standing in the doorway of my bedroom, which terrified me. At times I feel that whatever's around me would like to cause harm. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Go To Sleep" by: Joe [Mississauga, Ontario] Received: November 13, 2008 When I was about 8 or 9yrs old, my mom, dad & I lived with my uncle (mom's sister's hubby). I had the only bedroom in the basement. You had to go through the laundry room to get to it. One night I woke up for no real reason, it was upon realizing that when I noticed that the T.V. was on in the RecRoom...the Rec is through the laundry room & 9 feet away on your right through a doorway (no door). The television is on the FAR end of the room from the doorway. As I got to the door I looked down through the room, there was no one there. It's hard to explain but the way the funiture was set up there was NO way to miss some one if they're in there. Just as I noticed there was no one there the T.V. clicked and went to snow and an unfamiliar voice told me to go to sleep. As I turned to run I got about 3 feet away when the T.V. clicked back to a show (info-mercials). I was so frightened there that to this day (I'm 26) my parents still remember that night. At 16yrs old my mom told me the same thing (but a bit different) happened to her at the same age. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Someone Said My Name" by: Allison [Halifax, Nova Scotia] Received: November 13, 2008 Well I was only 4 or 5 and I was with my nanny at her new *not haunted* house. She was going to go upstairs to take a shower so she unplugged everything except the T.V. She asked me if I wanted to go upstairs with her, but I said no so I could be brave and she said ok. As she went to go upstairs she put on the burgaler alarm. She reached the bathroom and she turned on the shower then all of a sudden the alarm went off and the electronics went on. Than my nanny came downstairs and we heard someone say my name-"Allison....." over and over again so my nanny went to the door and said get out of my house NOW! than she prayed over me. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Little Girl Visits" by: Steve [Dorchester, Ontario] Received: November 14, 2008 Shortly after moving into our century old home in 1992 our 4yr old daughter became more and more difficult to put to bed. She complained of someone in her closet. Now this wasn't really a closet with a door, it was a partition which we kept her toys behind. I would have to go in her room and entertain my daughter by slaying all the monsters hiding in her room. One night while sleeping for some reason I opened my eyes, either to look at the clock or whatever it is that we open our eyes for at 2:35 a.m. standing beside my wife on her side of the bed was what I thought to be my daughter. There is a window on that side of the bed. The figure was standing in front of the window so all I could see was the shadow figure of what I thought to be my 4 yr old daughter. I asked "what do you need sweetie?" she did not reply. Again I asked and again she did not reply. Once again, now a little more firm I asked "WHAT DO YOU NEED?" no response. My wife who was asleep facing me was awoken by my questions. She asked what I said, I told her "she wants something and she won't answer me". She said "where is she?", I said "standing right beside you". Looking towards the window she replied "no she isn't". Still seeing this figure standing there I of course replied, "yes she is". My wife said "no she is not" and waved her hand through the air as if trying to hit something. I then said " turn on the light" she did and there was nothing there. After talking about what just happened and begging her not to have me committed, she turned off the light, there was nothing where I once saw this figure. In the morning I looked at everything in the room to see what it could have been that I saw. Later I asked my daughter "what does that person you say is in your closet look like", she replied "she a little girl and she's playing with my toys". I saw this little girl two more times in my bedroom, again standing beside my wife. I did not wake my wife either time. Instead I turned on my light and as before the figure would disappear. Latter that year we renovated my daughter's room, since that time I never saw the little girl again and my daughter never complained about someone playing with her toys. In 2006 my neighbour was putting in a new septic tank. While digging they found an old concrete sistern. When they removed what they thought was the broken lid, the lid was actually a broken head stone . The first name was broken off, the last name was still ledgeable "DUNDASS". Through some investigating my neighbour found that the Dundass family lived in his house and they had a daughter that had passed away. We are still trying to get a name and age. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Family Abandons Haunted House" by: Summer [Woods Island, Newfoundland] Received: November 16, 2008 I heard this story from my friend. A family had just moved there. They were just going to unpack when they heard a voice and an infant crying. The voice said "if this baby doesn't shut up I am going to throw it down the stairs", they looked up and saw a white figure walking down the stairs with a baby in her arms. They all ran out of the house and left every thing behind, bags blankets pillows and dishes, everything. She didn't believe this so her family went to the same cabin and saw all their bags still packed and dishes still in bags. Her mother looked in and saw the rocking chair rocking back and forth and there was no sign of wind anywhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Grandma Makes A Visit" by: Judith [Essex, Ontario] Received: November 30, 2008 l have had many experiences with the supernatural over the years. The one l will tell you about happened to me and my family 30yrs ago. We emigrated from England, leaving my family was hard. My grandmother was upset because she said my son of 12 months would never know her, this really bothered her. We kept in contact through letters and phone calls. My son was still in night diapers and although he could talk he didn't yet have a wide vocabulary(18months old). One night he woke my husband and l up at 2am Canada time, 10am English time, to tell us to come to his room that his grandmother was here. He was so happy and excited he pulled us to his room and he was very upset to find that she had left. l asked him what had she said to him and this little boy told me and his Dad that she wanted him to remember her and that he was a bonie boy. As soon as he repeated this l knew we had been visited. A bonie boy was an expression of hers and she really wanted to be remembered. l called England and yes my gran had passed over at 10am in England. My son is now in his 30s and remembers his grandma very clearly so she got her wish and l am glad. Another interesting fact was the light in my son's room was on, he was too small to reach the light and l had turned it off before going to bed. l know there is life after death l can no longer deny it. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Nana Asks Grandma To Come With Her" by: anonymous [St. Jacobs, Ontario] Received: December 22, 2008 l have had many experiences with the supernatural over the years. The one l will tell you about happened to me and my family 30yrs ago. One night, my grandma was sleeping in her bed, it was right after my nana died from a premature heart attack, and she suddenly woke up and happened to see nana there beside her at the end of the bed. Nana then asked my grandma if she would come with her. My grandma then replied, no mom I have too much to do in my lifetime yet. At that time Nana slowly drifted off and she never heard of her since. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Mom I'm Home!" by: Kaydee [Tillsonburg, Ontario] Received: December 22, 2008 Okay well I lived in a farm house from when I was about 6 till I was 12. I remember the first time when we came to look at the house I was determined to go to the far bedroom. So I left my parents to go to the room, as I entered it felt really cold and it was in the middle of the summer, no air-conditioning no windows open, so I went to my parents again and I went back outside and waited in the truck. A couple weeks later we moved in, I didn't really pay attention to what happened before. Then one day I was on my way down the driveway coming home from the bus and as I was about to reach the house I heard this beautiful child's voice say ''mom I'm home!'' and I ran inside but didn't tell my mom. A couple months later I woke up around 3 am and noticed this really pretty lady with a dress twirling around so I blinked my eyes and then she was gone, and of course I didn't tell my parents. A couple nights after I dropped my doll and left it there and I left the room, came back and it was standing up but my parents were outside so they couldn't have done anything. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Get Out!" by: Minikee [Toronto, Ontario] Received: January 15, 2009 Me and my friend thought it would be fun to take her camcorder and look for ghosts because her house was supposedly haunted. So I had her voice recorder and played it, at the time we heard nothing but when we played it back we heard a blood curtelling scream!!! It sounded like a man screaming. We both screamed and ran upstairs. We put it on her computer and played it in slow mo when we played it in slow mo the scream sounded like he was saying GET OUT! We were so scared but we went back downstairs. When we were walking down her basement stairs something pushed me and tripped my friend. We ran up and since then we never went down to her basement again! ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Footsteps, Music and Apparitions" by: Joan [Bonnyville, Alberta] Received: January 25, 2009 I live in a haunted house about 85 years old. It is the original farmhouse that was built by the first people who owned this land. There is an older gentleman here who has been seen by numerous people including myself. And a small girl, who is seen by other children who have been in the house. A one and a half year old has actually broken cookies in half to share with her. The older gentleman always watches from the upstairs window while the grass is being cut. We hear footsteps and music all the time. So many things too numerous to mention, but a note of interest, people who lived here before are always subjected to bad things. I guess they either like us or realize they can't scare me into leaving. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Apparition Wearing a Tux and Dress Shoes" by: Robin [Winnipeg, Manitoba] Received: February 4, 2009 I was working on an essay for school at 7:30 PM when I felt a hand on my shoulder and heard a whispered "1886 not 1986". Then another night at 12:00 AM I woke up and my TV was on and I saw a big shadow in the form of a very stocky man on the wall, my parents were asleep, it just faded away and I heard "thunk thunk" as he walked away. But the funkiest thing ever in this house was when my dog Scamp was sitting down in the middle of my living room whining so I look behind me and that weird guy is there, not a shadow but himself wearing I think it was a derby a tux and dress shoes, he winked at me and started walking towards me and I'd been staring I was tired and my eyes hurt so I blinked and as though I'd been hallucinating he was gone. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Poke On My Ribs" by: Michel [Moncton, New Brunswick] Received: February 16, 2009 Felt hunted and it might not be my apartment. I'm talking about myself, from disturbing touches while I sleep to a poke on my ribs. And it always occurs when I don't expect it. It has me mad, angry and in a bad mood with friends, family, every buddy. I even lost my girlfriend cause of my ignorance of not believing in whatever it is and I don't believe in ghosts... ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Ghost Bird" by: Patty [Brockville, Ontario] Received: March 26, 2009 To start I have had many paranormal experiences. But this is my ghost story. Keeping it as brief as I can, my daughter was sitting at the kitchen table doing some written work. I had cleaned the bird cage and it was sitting on the table to the front and left of her. I reached over her shoulder to get it and raised it directly upward and as I did, there was an angry bird screeching sound as if it were mad that I had moved the cage. I stopped in mid air and thought I was nuts, but then my daughter turn to me and said "That was the bird". I bet you can guess the rest. The bird had died, I had cleaned the cage, it was empty. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Trailer" by: Franki [Morell, Prince Edward Island] Received: April 4, 2009 I think there's someone in this house. My grandmother lives in a trailer in Morell, I was out in Morell for the night when my mom went to Maine and I slept in my dad's old room. So it was about 12 am and I couldn't sleep so I read myself to sleep, my grandmother was asleep at this time. I clearly remeber falling asleep with the light on and the blankets were under me. I woke up in the morning and the light was out and the blankets were on me. I don't think my grandmother would have woken up and put them on me because it was Summertime. I tried the light just to see if it had burnt out but it hadn't. I was so freaked out so the next night I slept on the couch. Once again I couldn't sleep so I again read myself to sleep. The book was on the table beside me that night. I awoke to hear a clanging sound, like somebody was banging pans together, I looked around in the darkness and I saw a white mist by the stove like there was somebody cooking. I turned the light on and there was nothing, the clanging noise had stopped and all I could hear were the crickets chirping outside. I was going to read again but when I looked at the table where my book had been, it wasn't there. I looked under everything and still couldnt find it. I told my grandmother the next morning and she said "You dont expect me to believe you, do you?" I was mad. History of the trailer: The trailer had been moved from New Brunswick because the man who had lived in it, passed away. I personally think it's his ghost, he's kind of scary. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Phone Flew Out of My Hand" by: Melodie [McKerrow, Ontario] Received: April 14, 2009 My parents owned a business in town and we lived on top and in back of it. It was quite a big place. The hallway upstairs was more like a big sitting room. The stairs went up then turned to the right and there were railings all around them. There was a window on top of the stairs so you could see in the driveway. My parents after they closed their store for the evening would go out for a coffee, this night was not any different. I was 16 years old at the time and I was talking on the phone to my boyfriend. The phone was on a long extension cord which was hooked up in the hallway and I had it running into my room so I could have privacy. I was in mid conversation with my boyfriend when someone or something tugged on the cord that was lying under my closed door. I told whoever it was ( I thought it was my father playing a joke on me) to knock it off. I then yelled a bit more angry when the cord was tugged yet again because it was actually ripping the phone away from my ear. Right after that I yelled and the phone cord was pulled so hard that the whole phone flew out of my hand and hit the bedroom door. At this point I couldn't believe my dad did that so I flung open the door and said "hey!" Well no one was there. I then told my boyfriend to hold a minute and went to the window above the stairs. The house was quiet, no lights were on downstairs and when I looked out the window my parents' car was gone! I ran back to my room, jumped on my bed and told my boyfriend what happened. I got off the phone with him, waited until my parents came home and asked them when they left for coffee. They said right after the store closed, about 5 after 9. I then realized that of course I just had some kind of experience being as when this all occured there was no car in the driveway and well the time was 9:30 when I had my "visitor". ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Ghost Sweeps The Floor" by: Terri [Winnipeg, Manitoba] Received: April 17, 2009 My mom told me of this a few years ago: When I was a toddler maybe 2 or 3, I hated sleeping in my bedroom. I would always go into the hallway and sleep just outside my bedroom door (I don't remember this being so young). One night my mom was laying in my bed with me (a mattress on the floor) and she woke up to see an older woman in a checkered (lumberjack type) shirt sweeping the floor with a straw broom. She watched the woman for a few minutes before she disappeared. She was a little freaked out and she figures that is the reason I never wanted to sleep in my room... ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Farmhouse" by: Corrie [Cooksville, Ontario] Received: April 20, 2009 As a child growing up in a farmhouse dated 1885 now demolished in Cooksville (Mississauga), I experienced strange happenings. We had the old brass curtain rods with rings in each of the 2 upstairs bedrooms. I was alone upstairs in one of the bedrooms reading, when I suddenly heard the curtains screeching back and forth opening and closing. I called out as if one of my siblings were doing this to annoy me. No answer, I called again, no answer, then getting annoyed I stormed out in the hall to the other room, ...... no one there ...... I looked, no siblings hiding as if a joke. Terrified I ran downstairs, this was mid afternoon. Another time, same scenario, but a dresser drawer in the other room dragged open and then slammed closed. I ran to the room thinking a sibling was there, no one in sight. Sleeping in that same room of occurrences, I slept in an antique bed dated 1906, which I still have in my possession. The bed has a high headboard and sideboards. One night there was a knocking on the sideboard below me, loud enough it woke me. Thinking it was my brother playing one of his pranks, I told him by name to stop. The knocking continued, truly irritated I yelled "Peter stop knocking I know it's you!" Then diving with my head under my bed.....shocked then crying out.....there was no one there! Footsteps up and down the hall pacing many a night. I would crawl along the floor, peering in the hall to see no one there! I have at times precognitive dreams of events going to happen sometime and have. I also always dream in colour. The townhouse I now live in presently for 19 years, I've also experienced strange occurances. Someone as if sitting on my bed at night and waking me up because of the weight I couldn't move. Also washing dishes with rubber gloves in very hot water, (no windows open, no furance on, .....) sudden cold spot as if something/someone went through me. Hair stood up at the back of my neck, I couldn't move or see clearly as if wrapped in gauze or cheesecloth. I had my hands in hot water, yet I was freezing cold. Suddenly I felt this jolt of release whatever it was and my whole body began to warm up again back to normal. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Green Man In the Basement" by: Lisa [Fort McMurray, Alberta] Received: May 4, 2009 I lived in this old house in Thickwood. My sister and I each had a room in the basement. Every night my sister would sleep with our little dog Molly. One night while getting ready for bed my dog started freaking out and backed herself into a corner. She started yelping and crying, her tail was between her legs. She finally unfroze and ran upstairs, naturally my sister and I ran to my dad. He checked things out and there seemed to be no sign of anything, and Molly was calm by then but still wouldn't go into the basement. Later on that night my sister came and slept in my room. The next day she told me she saw a man in green walking from her room into mine. As if that wasn't freaky enough, my boyfriend's son came over and wouldn't go into the basement, he said he was scared of the green man with dirt under his nails. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Creature with Human Face and Glowing Eyes" by: Dominique [Elliot Lake, Ontario] Received: May 16, 2009 This happened in 2007, in late August, while looking for eery or creepy places after dark. I started doing this the year before, going down park trails with the moon as my only source of light, or just going into the woods past midnight. Usually when I find something supernatural, on tv or on the net, I usually get the chills or a single tear will fall from my left eye. I went to Spruce Beach hoping to see or hear or even feel something wierd, but all I'd found was a black bear emptying a garbage bin, I started running towards it, it took off in the direction of the woods. It dropped a garbage bag just outside the woods on the trail. I waited to see what it would do so I waited in plain sight for it to do something, it just whined and whimpered kind of like a dog. After 15-20 minutes I left it alone and started walking back along Spruce Rd, after a bit I couldn't hear any more normal noises, no birds, no wind, no waves just dead silence. I thought it was a little wierd at first but paid it no mind, a few minutes later I see a small figure on the side of the road, about the size of a very small dog no more than 3/4-1 1/2 feet to it's shoulder, it was pitch black, had no tail, the body was kind of a mixture between a dog and a cat's, but it had a nearly perfect human face and wierd glowing eyes. I just stopped dead in my tracks, this thing was a good 60-90ft away from me but I felt like it was right next to me, I just kept shivering and my left eye kept tearing up, all I could think of was "this is it, I'm going to die like this", it just slowly kept walking towards me, with every step it took I felt colder and colder, I felt fear, unlike the thrill I get when I'm chasing bears, it was a deep primal fear, my very being felt like it was going to devoured. As it got closer, a car came from behind the hill, and the light hit the thing, which ran into the woods without any sound. I got my composure back, the sound returned, and I started walking a lot faster back home, all along the way I just felt as though I was being watched. I kept going on my trail walks without any light kind of hoping to see it again, and also hoping I wouldn't. Even now after having moved to Sudury, every time I think about it I get shivers. (I am not making this up, it is all true, I swear on my life and on everything I hold dear). ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Empty House" by: Wade [Londonderry, Nova Scotia] Received: July 5, 2009 When I was about 10 years old my dad told me about the house next door supposedly being haunted by the elderly man who died there. When alive, the elderly man could not get around too well, so when he needed something from downstairs he would tap his cane on the floor and his wife would go see what he wanted. As time went by the husband died and the wife passed a few years later. With the house being empty, my dad was asked to keep an eye on the place. One afternoon my dad went over to check everything out, came home and told us that he heard three sharp taps from the upstairs bedroom. He wasn't scared (that's my dad) but he left immediately. When dusk came that night he looked out the window and noticed he left the lights on so he asked me...yeah me, a little kid...lol, to go turn the lights off. I did as I was asked and came home. I looked out the window and the lights were on again. We just left them on for the night. Kind of creepy, I guess. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "She Turned Her Head and Looked at Me" by: Katherine [Greenway, Ontario] Received: July 25, 2009 From the ages of eleven to fourteen I lived in a very old house. I'm not sure of the exact year the house was built, it would have been around the 1880's. I always had a feeling of uneasiness in that house, and the rest of my family says they always felt the same way. There was always a feeling of sadness, and like you were being watched. One night when I was about twelve I was going up the stairs to my bedroom, the stairs had two flights with a little landing before the second set of steps that you had to turn to go up the rest of the way. Anyway when I turned and took the first step up the second set of steps I looked up and saw a girl who looked to be about my age at the time. She was walking out of my room and into my brother's room which was across the hall. As she was walking she turned her head and looked at me but carried on. My brother claims to have seen the same apparition as I did, only she was walking out of his room and into mine. On another morning my sister, who's bedroom was at the top of the stairs, came running downstairs screaming because she could hear a drumming sound coming from the attic (the attic stairs were in her bedroom closet). When I went up to look I saw nothing and heard nothing. A few years after moving from that house to London I met a friend who's aunt and uncle lived in that same house a few years before I did. They have the same story about the little girl upstairs and the feeling of uneasiness in that house. When my family first moved into the house we were told about twin boys that lived there and one of them dieing in the house in the early 1900's but nothing about a girl. In december of 2008 the house burned to the ground, how I don't know but all that remains on the land is a drive shed. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Ghost Swears Revenge" by: Taya [Port Colborne, Ontario] Received: July 29, 2009 When I was a little girl my family bought a house and there was always people in my room -- ghosts. I told my mom and dad about the images in my room and they told the "ghosts" that if they didn't pay rent they had to leave. Sure enough it worked except one little thing, a little boy did not leave and would always tell me to help him and to play with him and I didn't like him at all, he was freaky and always in my face. The next week or two I told my neighbours about the little boy and they were Wiccan and they told me to tell him to go into the light. So I did and he just left. I never ever saw him again and now inside my room in my light there is a black blob inside my light and it will NOT go away like we've tried cleaning and repairing it. That was 7 years ago, and just 5 months ago I had a really scary dream and I don't have scary dreams. It was about the boy, but he was older and told me that I didn't help him and that I'm going to regret it and he's going to get revenge on me, but it's just a dream so what do I have to be scared of. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Victorian Haunted House" by: Dawn [Halifax, Nova Scotia] Received: August 4, 2009 Our family home in Halifax was purchased after the explosion destroyed my grandparents' first home. The house On Robie Street was an old victorian. We always jokingly said it was haunted. Voices would be heard, belongings disappeared only to reappear months later. As kids our favourite game was to stand at the top of the stairs in the cold spot and see who could stand the creepy feeling longest without running down the stairs. Shortly after my uncle passed away we started to smell pipe tobacco whenever he came up in conversation. As a child I slept in the room my grandmother passed away in, for many years I drove my mother crazy talking to the friend no one else could see, the friend who would stand by my bed and talk to me while I fell asleep. As an adult I was informed by a psychic that the friend was still with me, she described her as standing behind me, and then she described my late grandmother. When we eventually moved from the house my mother laughingly said 'be careful not to let the ghosts get in the boxes'.. it didn't work, there are still phantom whiffs of pipe tobacco in the new location. And items go missing, the catch now is if you ask nice they come back, we say its mom reminding us she's still here. I recently misplaced a pair of silver earrings that my mother had given me. I say misplaced, when in fact they simply vanished from the box they were always in. I went to get them one day and they were gone, the search was on, every drawer emptied, boxes dumped until I finally decided they were gone for good. Months later my sister asked if I had found them and suggested I ask mom for them back. I did one more search and asked if I could have them back, a few days later I opened the box where the earrings had been kept, to find them safely lying on the cotton in the box. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Figure Clothed in Black with No Face" by: Kelly [Minesing, Ontario] Received: August 11, 2009 I was 7 years old and I was waiting for my dad to get home from a late night hockey game, it was around 12:30-1:00. I didn't know that he had already come home but still was waiting for him. It was storming that night and now and then would see a flash of lightening and the trees sway. I should mention I live out in the country in a rural area so the houses were far in between ours. While I had my face against the upstairs window looking out I was focused on the road, directly across our street was a caulvosac. It was at that time I noticed just a few feet from the stop sign was a figure, a figure taller then the stop sign itself and one knows how high they are. The figure was clothed in black and walked more slowly then a human being should, actually it didn't seem to walk but float. I turned away in fear and came back 5 minutes later thinking what I saw was just my imagination. To my fright it wasn't my imagination, the figure was now crossing the street to my front lawn. In the streetlight I was able to make out what it was, it was the kind of ghost that Scrooge sees the third ghost of Christmas. The ones that have no face, just before I ran back to the safety of my bed I saw the lightening flash and to my fright and horrow saw nothing in place of where the face should be. I have not forgotten that since and I am 23 now. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Cats Came Back" by: Kelly [Minesing, Ontario] Received: August 11, 2009 A couple of years ago I had two cats, one was actually my sister's. I was very close to my cat she was like a guardian angel because she was always looking for me and during my teen years I suffered deep depression. She was also the kind of cat who would follow you on two mile walks even if it was cold or rainy. Her name was Lou Kira, her brother was Asmodelle and was very lazy and wasn't like his sister in any way but was a big suck and would sit on your belly at night and kneed you and purr loudly. During their 7th year was a sad one for me, every night Kira would come in and that night she never did. After 2 days I began to worry and look for her and even went to places that she'd probably not go but to no avail never found her. I couldn't think of what could have happened because she always stayed close to home, coyoties possibly maybe a large owl for she was very small. Several weeks after her disappearance I was suffering greatly from her loss. I began hearing her cries, for she cried like a kitten. I'd hear her soft padded steps and feel her jumping onto the bed at night and even her moving around, and lay by my legs. I do believe she came back to comfort me until I got over her, it took a very long time but I think it was after 3 months I stopped feeling her presence, she knew I was okay and she could go. Her brother Asmodelle left a year after, and he too did the same coming back to visit me until he knew I was okay without him. He was heavier and bigger then his sister and whenever he walked you'd hear the creaking on the floor that was what I heard, and he would jump up onto the bed make his way up to my face and literally lay on my chest. I knew this was him because I could barely breathe and I'd feel him kneed me and purr loudly. I do believe in ghosts and pets coming back, and I believe that if we are suffering greatly and they know we still need them that they will return to us until they feel we are okay without them. Of all the many pets I have had my cats were the only ones who came back, then again I was incredably close to the both of them more so Lou Kira then her brother. Even now I miss her but know I am strong enough not to need her, for all I know she and her brother could be walking in the house and keeping an eye on me and my parents without us knowing or hearing them. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "I Was Three Feet Above My Bed" by: Calvin [Stephenville, Newfoundland] Received: August 14, 2009 I have been experiencing paranormal activities all my life. But the one that scared me the most was when I was a student at West Viking College. I was sleeping one night in my dorm when I felt as if someone had grabbed me by the belt and the scruff of my shirt. I opened my eyes and saw that I was three feet above my bed. Suddenly I hit the wall on the other side of my room. Then a clear man's voice said either "come to me" or "come with me", I was too scared to reconize which it was. Needless to say, I never got a good nights sleep there after. My closet door use to open on it's own there all the time, which made my girlfriend want to no longer spend the night. I continue to be haunted even though I live in Nova Scotia now. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Flying Diary" by: Karli [Perdue, Saskatchewan] Received: August 22, 2009 An event happened in my old house that I will never forget. I was from 8 to 10 years old (I'm 16 now, so I can't quite be sure, sorry), I lived in the very small village of Perdue. I spent most of my time in the basement, where I played my video games, watched T.V., etc. One day, my neighbour's neice, who was about my age, came over to play with me, so while both my mom and step-dad were out of town, we went downstairs and began watching a movie. As we were sitting on the couch comfortably, I felt the sudden urge to look behind me, at the coffee table. My diary had been sitting there, but then it started shaking slightly. Then suddenly, without warning, it flew up about a foot above the table, then dropped to the floor. I didn't know what to do, but my friend also saw this, and became frightened, so the two of us went back to her uncle's house. When I came back home, and downstairs, I saw that my diary was still laying on the floor. Please keep in mind that I have no siblings, and the only household pet cat was upstairs. People have suggested that it may have been the wind, but the basement has no windows, and no fans to blow any sort of wind that would be required to lift such a weight and still be undetected (since we didn't feel any gusts of wind). About a month or so later, my mom also told me of an incident when she was in the kitchen upstairs, and suddenly, the plastic containers fell to the ground as if someone knocked them over. This was the last case of odd activity at this house however, and we didn't get any more mysterious happenings after that. I'll never forget about that day, though, and I still can't pose a logical explanation other than a spirit passing by and making a little mischeif. lol ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Mommy, Mommy" by: Kelsey [Penetanguishene, Ontario] Received: August 25, 2009 After looking at many houses, my mom finally decided on a house to buy. I was six at the time of our move. Shortly after moving into this 150+ year old house, my mom was sitting in our living room reading, before she was going to head to bed. From the floor above she heard a little girls voice calling "Mommy, Mommy.." She ventured upstairs to make sure I was okay. Once she got to my bedroom she found that I was fast asleep. This happened almost every night, and still continues to happen very often. As I grew up I witnessed different things. At the age of about 8-9 years old, I heard glasses clinking and a group of middle-aged men talking in our kitchen. I went downstairs, thinking that my dad had friends over. Once I got to the kitchen, it was completely empty and the lights were all off. Once I was inside the house by myself, I sat at one end of my hallway where my computer was located. The top of the stairs came up to the opposite end of the hallway I was sitting at. While I was checking e-mails, I heard footsteps come up the stairs. Thinking it was my mom, I called to her. When there was no answer I walked to the staircase and looked down. No one was there, but the steps continued. Over the years, I've seen a young girl about the age of 7-8 standing at the top of the stairs. She wears a bluish-gray dress, with a lacy shirt underneath. It comes around her neck slightly. She either wears her hair partially tied up with a bow or in braids. I've asked my mom about this apparition and we both describe her the same way. I've also seen a man standing in our laundry room in the basement, and my grandfather in this house. The spirits tend to play pranks on people in the house, because we would find flower pots moved around, glasses taken out of the cupboard. Once we even woke up in the morning to find a broken glass in the living room (adjoining the kitchen), when we looked in the garbage bin in the kitchen another glass was smashed and wrapped up in a towel. There are countless other stories, that would take too long to type, but those are some that stand out in my mind the most. Despite hearing voices, footsteps and seeing apparitions, it continues to be a home that is staying warm in my heart and my mom's. I'm sure we will continue to witness things to happen in this strange household, but it's all part of the charm of the house. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "I'm Talking To The Man" by: Brooke [Maidstone, Ontario] Received: September 02, 2009 My grandma and grandpa live in a fairly old house. Before they lived there, two elderly people lived there. The woman died in her 80's or 90's. Soon after her husband was gardening and had a heart attack and passed away. A few years ago, when my younger sister was about two, my grandma was babysitting her while my parents worked and I attended school. My sister asked to play in the basement while my grandma made lunch. After my grandma made her lunch, she opened the door to the basement to call my sister up for lunch. My sister was sitting at the end of the stairs talking like she was having a conversation with someone. My grandma asked who she was talking to (assuming my sister was only talking to an "imaginary friend") but that was not the response my grandma got. My sister said "I am talking to the man". My grandma was surprised and remembered what had happened in the house before. My sister does not remember that day but my grandma surely does. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Apartment" by: Arnold [Etobicoke, Ontario] Received: September 16, 2009 My wife and I moved to an apartment near Bloor & The West Mall in May of 1994. Let me tell you now that we loved that place and stayed for 5 1/2 years until we moved overseas in November of 1999. However, the place did have a few strange on-goings over the years which we didn't think much of at the time but in conversations since, we discovered that strange things were happening during our stay. We never did see any ghosts or orbs or entities, but odd things happened. Our cat would at times just sit and stare at the apartment door, and meow, and meow and meow. He wasn't meowing at passersby outside the door as there were only two apartments on each floor of the building and we could hear our neighbours coming and going if they were. We went out to the Pickering Flea Market one Sunday, and upon our return home, there was the super of the building who lived below us, asking me "What did you do that for?". I said "What are you talking about?". He then explained to us that after we left he heard a loud bang in our apartment, and then heard the cat wailing uncontrollably. Being the super, he had keys to the apartment and let himself in to investigate. Once inside, he realized that the cat was locked in the bathroom, with the hot water in the tub going full blast. The wind easily could have blown the door shut (mind you, I don't remember a wind that day), but what explains the hot water? In the third year of our stay there, my wife and I were blessed with twin baby boys. 20 months later, my father died in hospital in Scarborough. The boys were 20 months old, we didn't tell them that he died, figuring toddlers would not understand death anyhow. Now my wife had told me what was happening in the days after he died, but I just figured she was exaggerating again. But then I witnessed it myself. She would get up earlier for work, and I would stay to take them to daycare and then go to my own job. One particular morning, days after my dad's death - - I could hear them saying "Hi! Hi! Want some juice? Here." They kept saying it and saying it. I walked down the hall in the apartment and peered at them thru the hall door way. There they were in their high-chairs, looking up at the ceiling offering their cups of juice. I went into the living room and asked them who they were talking to. The more vocal twin simply said "Papa. He was right there" (as he pointed to the ceiling above them). A few nights later, we sat them down and asked them "Do you see Papa?". The vocal twin pointed his finger to the ceiling and said "Uh-huh. Up there." We then asked the quieter twin the same question and he just nodded and pointed up as well. I tested this exercise again in a friend's house that weekend. Both twins just looked around and up and said "No." The most bizarre thing of all. Before we had the kids, I used to get up and drive my wife to work in the city at about 4:45 a.m., then come back home, go back to bed and get up for my own job at about 7:30. As you can imagine, this can wear on you after awhile and you'd sleep thru the alarm. Not in this apartment. Several times, I would wake up, just a few minutes past my scheduled time, the radio alarm playing, but the bed would be shaking slightly. It was one of those metal wagon wheel types beds and was as if someone was grabbing the rim at the foot of the bed and shaking it back and forth. So whoever it was, did not want me to sleep in for work anyway. At first I attributed to the cat pushing off as he jumped down in the morning, but there he was in my wife's spot...sound asleep. The weird thing was, is years after we moved away...I told my wife what used to happen and she just looked at me in astonishment. Turns out that the mornings where I had left first, and she was on her own, the bed would shake her awake as well. And it must have shaken a lot, because she sleeps like a log. I have always wanted to write to any tenants since then, to ask if they have experienced anything bizarre, but don't want to spook them or make them think I'm crazy. We actually took over the apartment from an old friend of my wife's, and she did not mention anything odd. So I am still in the dark wondering if it was just us. But since things would happen to us together and separately, both of us are convinced that we were sharing that apartment with a former tenant...who seemed to like us, but not necessarily our cat, Alex. I am very careful to this day, when moving house, to try and get a history on it. This is all due to the West Mall. I try and stick to newer houses actually. The twins are now almost 12 and wouldn't sleep nights if something strange was happening. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Haunted Newly Built House" by: Brenda [McKerrow, Ontario] Received: September 29, 2009 My parents built us a large new house when I was about 13. We had lived on the land previously in a trailer since I was 3. The land itself has been passed down on my mother's side for at least 2-3 generations. Now this stuff occured when I was 17-18 years old. My mom was looking after my older sister's daughter, my niece Sara, who was severely handicapped but the light of our lives. I would often hear heavy footsteps in the halls, on the main floor and upstairs when no one but me and Sara were home. Sara couldn't move unless you moved her, she could not walk nor talk. We had no pets at the time, no explainations for that. One day the back of the washing machine broke, so to do laundry we would have to put the water hose directly into the tub of the washing machine to fill it, if you forgot you were running the water then you can over fill it and have a huge mess of water on the floor. Well a few times I turned on the water, and got distracted with something else, I would rush to the laundry room to find the water turned off... and no the water didn't just run out, the water tap was turned OFF, and would be tight as well. I know I left the water on, it's like something knew that I was busy and there would be a mess so it turned it off for me!! At night, if you went to the bathroom, suddenly the light turned off on you. This was a new home, the wiring and the outlets were brand new! One night, I wasn't in a good mood, so when the light turned off I said "That isn't funny, I'm not in the mood tonight" and the light turned on. Now for my bedroom, I would hate my door being open at night, so I would close it. It would bang open, I would get mad and get up and close it and lock it, jiggle it, and everything. Five minutes later, it would bang open again. Now my friend moved in with us, one night she was laying on the bed and this started to happen to her, I explained all the occurances to her, and she mentioned how she heard the footsteps in the halls, and was too freaked to tell anyone. She watched the whole door thing from the bed where she was laying. No windows open, no drafts anywhere, door locked and secured, and it would still bang open. Also sometimes a cologne smell would suddenly appear in my room, it seemed old fashioned and very strong. Most occurances happened when I was alone in the house with Sara. With the exception of my friend who just witnessed some of it (including the laundry room thing). After a while I couldn't take it, and having my friend also hear and see and smell all that I had, I finally told my parents. My dad laughed which I expected, but my mom said she knew. She wouldn't tell me what she experienced with the exception of one story. She said that once in awhile she felt someone sit on her bed beside her and pat her leg. She thinks it is her dad who passed away when she was 7 and they were close, the land was his. She said the first she remembered it happening was the night before she married my dad, it was like he was telling her that it was a good choice and he was happy and proud of her. My mom said to say nothing to my younger siblings because it would scare them. I agreed. The occurances eventually stopped becoming so prominate with me, and my mom thinks that it's because we had boarders move in, and maybe it's a family thing. Well the story doesn't end there, I came home one night to find my younger brother totally freaked out. He was sitting at the computer which is on the landing in between the main floor and the upperfloor where my parents' room is. You can see my parents' door from the computer. He told me that he was sitting at the computer and heard footsteps start walking from my room all the way down the hall and up the stairs and past him, and up the next flight of stairs to my parents' door, and then my parents' door opened (it was closed) and started to sway open and close, slow at first and then faster and faster and then slammed shut. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Nana and Poppa Visit" by: John [Bolton, Ontario] Received: October 08, 2009 In the early 90's my grandparents moved into our family's home to help take care of me while my father was recovering from a heart attack. In '93 nana passed away from lung cancer and in '97 poppa passed away from intestinal cancer. While sick, we kept them at home with us, mainly for the purpose of keeping them comfortable. Both passed away in the basement of the house, practically in the exact same spot. Following their deaths we have had a few unexplainable events transpire. One evening my mother, father and I travelled to visit some family up north. Upon arriving home, I headed into the basement (which in '99 we changed from an apartment where nana and popa resided into a rec-room) only to find the hot water tap on the sink in the laundry room to be on, full blast mind you. As we were all up north that day there is no way we could have turned it on and forgot about it. My mother and father both insisted neither of them had been down there in a few days. We have also had instances of phones being left off the hook, with nobody around to have lifted them off the cradle. One night I was in the living room at the top of the basement stairs with a high school chum of mine watching a movie when we both heard footsteps slowly climb the basement stairs, proceed through the room we were in, then up more stairs into the kitchen where they stopped. Startled, we grabbed our coats and proceeded outside until my parents returned from dinner. Remembering now, while poppa was sick he wasn't able to move around fast, so he would slowly make his way from the basement to the kitchen to sit and read the paper and such. Looking back (I havn't lived in the house for years) I realize these were all just ways of nana or poppa saying hi, and to let us know they are around, watching over us. I just don't understand why they would want to waste hot water for! :) ---------------------------------------------------------------- "The Diaper Fell Over Her Shoulder" by: Emily [Brampton, Ontario] Received: October 11, 2009 I have lived in my apartment for 10 years. Ever since I moved in strange things have happened. When I first moved in I saw a black figure walk down the stairs (2 level apartment) and go walking in to my bedroom. It was as if this figure was oblivious to anything going on around her. To this day if I shut my bedroom door, it will rattle very loudly as if someone is trying to get in. Also I have heard loud banging on the walls when only I am home. Three years ago I had the most convincing things happen here. My daughter was changing her daughter's diaper and she went to pick up the diaper and it wasn't where she laid it down and all of a sudden it fell over her shoulder to her lap. Also around the same time I went to open the kitchen cupboard and my pills came flying at me. I always keep these pills on the counter. Also the cat's toy moved to the other side of the room by itself. But the biggest experience I had was I had just come home from working the afternoon shift, it was around 11:30pm and I was making a snack and my phone rang once. It startled me and I turned around and there in front of me was a sort of silver wavering mass, just like if you look down a road on a hot summer day. I gasped because it scared me and it disappeared. Also one night I was laying down on my bed to go to sleep and it felt like I laid on someone and they went right through me and got up. It made me gasp, it felt weird and it scared me. Many things have happened. I will be moving soon, as they are making these apartments into condominiums. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "She Never Left the Bowling Alley" by: Gary [Mississauga, Ontario] Received: October 14, 2009 My son and I were in the basement of my bungalow watching TV. My wife was out at the time with her niece with the weekly bowling league. We heard them come in the front door and I asked my son why are they home so early. We heard them go into the living room to sit and talk. I had to go up to my room which was in the other end of the house to get something. When I came back I heard my wife call out to me but could not hear what she was saying. I said "what?" and was in a hurry to get back to my show so I went back down stairs to my TV expecting them to come after me. When the next commercial came on I went upstairs to see what she wanted and when I went into the living room there was no one there. I called her to ask her why she came home so early and to see where she had gone to, she told me she never left the bowling alley. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Dripping Wet with Pale Blue and Rotting Skin" by: Olivia [London, Ontario] Received: October 15, 2009 They say that children are the most likely to see a ghost, and my story kind of proves that this is true. When I was in grade 8 I used to ride my bike to school in the morning. One day, while riding down a side road off of Riverside, I heard a car start up. Being paranoid about car accidents (one of my closest friends had recently been hit) I slowed down and looked in the window of the car to make sure the driver saw me. What I saw next has haunted my mind ever since. A man, dripping wet with pale blue and rotting skin, was sitting in the driver seat, his face pressed against the glass as he watched me with his one remaining eye. As I passed by a tree on the front yard of the house, the man disappeared, and was replaced by the driver. For years, before and after, I have seen ghosts and spirits, but none of them have given me the same feeling as that of "The Car-Man". ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Sally Watches Over Family" by: Jackie [Milton, Ontario] Received: October 29, 2009 Before I was born my father was married to a nice woman I will call Sally, they eventually had a child named Luke. When Luke was six his mother (Sally) was raped and killed. Years later, my dad married my mother and had me and my sister. When I was 8 Sally appeared on my dad's balcony, when he woke she was standing there and slowly got closer to him. Also, when Sally was little she had a yellow boom box and my dad had saved this after she passed and put it in my brother's closet. One day my mom heard a noise coming from downstairs and as she opend my brother's bedroom door the noise got louder. She called Luke in and asked if his radio was on, he said no and looked in his closet. His mother's (Sally) uncharged, boom box with no batteries was turned on to Luke's favourite song. This wasn't even possible because the boom box had no devices in it to have started. One night my sister had woken up after hearing her tv, she looked into the hallway because she had to go to the bathroom and saw a shadow of a woman on the wall. My door was slightly opened and my sister said the shadow was watching me sleep. It walked away when my sister made a noise. I had to go to the bathroom so I got up and heard my sister screaming my name and I ran into her room, she was sitting on her bed drenched in tears saying something was staring at me while I was sleeping. It creeped me out so I slept in her room for the next three nights. It didn't show up again until 2 weeks later when I was on the computer in the office. I looked up at my bedroom window through the office window, a woman in a white dress was staring back at me through my bedroom window. After a couple minutes it walked away and never showed up again. Though strange things have happened, we know that it was only because my brother's mom (Sally) wanted to see her family again. Other occurences have happened, scarier ones that weren't Sally. They follow us sometimes and we don't know why, but we hope we find out soon. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Man Sitting Next to the Lamp" by: Jessica [Forest, Ontario] Received: November 1, 2009 When I was younger, up to the age of 9, I would visit my grandparents for most of the summer. They lived in a big red brick house on Broadway. My mom told me it used to be a brothel. I've been told a few people have died there. My mom said someone she knew, I think she said he was her ex-boyfriend, hung himself in the basement apartment of the house (the house was divided into 3 apartments). A girl had a seizure in the bathtub in my grandmother's apartment, the bathtub was still there. It was an old clawfoot bathtub. My great grandmother also died of old age in the house. My grandmother's house has a lot of cold spots. Like you could be walking through a room and hit a really cold spot just randomly. I remember taking a bath and sometimes the water would go ice cold for a few minutes when it was warm to begin with. At night you could hear the floorboards creaking as if someone is walking on them. One time when I was sleeping I woke up because I felt like someone was staring at me. There was a dresser at the end of the bed with a large lamp on it. There was a man sitting next to the lamp with his leg crossed over his other leg. I thought it was my grandfather but when I called to him he said nothing. So I got up and ran to my gandparents' room and slept with them that night. ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
